Chapter 2989: Willful Taming 06

~7 min read 1,279 words

Chenshu shrank back from the window frame in a swoop, his feet landing steadily on the carpet.

He brushed off the dust on his clothes, tidied his hair blown messy by the wind, then lifted his head and strode angrily to the bedroom door, glaring at Jin Chen.

"Who made you stop me from leaving? Even marital relations can't imprison me!"

Jin Chen lifted his gaze at him, his gray eyes especially clear in the morning light, "No one is imprisoning you."

Chenshu tilted his head, staring at Jin Chen's face for a few seconds, as if judging whether he was telling the truth.

After a night passed, how did the old man agree to let him go? Could it really be that he won't pursue it?

He didn't quite believe it, but Jin Chen's expression didn't look like he was planning to settle scores later.

That's certainly a good thing.

Upon learning he could leave, Chenshu relaxed all at once—his shoulders loosened, the corners of his mouth unconsciously curled up, that youthful, reckless vigor returned, like a fire snuffed out by the wind reigniting.

He's always been the type to act on a whim.

Just moments ago he was still on the windowsill thinking how to escape; now that he knows he can walk out the door openly, he immediately changed his demeanor.

"Can I finish breakfast before I go?" Chenshu asked, his voice light, eyes curved.

Jin Chen picked up the book he hadn't finished, opened the page with the bookmark, and continued reading.

In Chenshu's understanding, his silence meant consent.

Chenshu rubbed his still‑aching knee, plopped down beside the table, and began eating breakfast.

His manner of eating wasn't refined—he shoved a big bite of bread into his mouth, cheeks bulging, chewed a few times then swallowed, then picked up the milk cup and gulped a large mouthful; a few drops of milk spilled from the corner of his mouth, which he casually wiped away with the back of his finger.

While eating, he occasionally glanced at this cheap… no, very expensive husband sitting on the sofa reading a book, who was indeed very good‑looking.

Chenshu chewed the bread and clicked his tongue in his mind.

It's unfair. If Jin Chen were just an ordinary person, looking like that would already be enough to make people feel unbalanced, but he's actually the most powerful person in the whole Yucheng, rich, influential, and handsome—heaven is being far too partial.

Perhaps Chenshu's gaze was too fervent, for Jin Chen glanced at him.

Chenshu, mouth full of a cheese bun, mumbled, "What are you looking at? Haven't you seen a handsome guy eat?"

He finished one bun, picked up another, then glanced at the coffee in front of Jin Chen and said, "I want some too."

Jin Chen lifted his eyes.

"Coffee." Chenshu pointed at the cup before him, "I want some too."

Jin Chen gestured to Chen Gai, who went to pour a cup of coffee and placed it beside Chenshu.

Chenshu picked it up and took a sip; the bitterness made him frown. "No sugar?"

Chen Gai: "The boss doesn't like sweetened coffee."

"Hiss… pretentious." Chenshu muttered under his breath, but took another sip anyway.

Chen Gai: "…" Watch your words, sister‑in‑law!

Breakfast time hadn't ended yet when Chen Gai suddenly received a message.

He glanced at it, his expression instantly turning grave as he walked over to Jin Chen: "Boss, the important shipment at West Harbor is due to dock early today; customs has already been taken care of, the inspection will be a mere formality, but to be safe we still need someone to keep an eye on it."

Jin Chen closed his book: "Get the car ready."

A thought suddenly flashed through Chenshu's mind.

He recalled yesterday—no, actually early this morning—the thing he had forgotten while half‑asleep.

The thing he had originally planned to do.

Chenshu's pupils shifted; he gulped down the last mouthful of milk, set the cup down, and moved closer, "I also want to go see."

Jin Chen tilted his head to look at him; those light‑gray eyes lingered on his face for a moment, as if weighing something.

"Reason."

Without thinking, Chenshu blurted, "If you don't let me go, I'll keep causing trouble for you today."

Jin Chen's tone was neutral: "Please, I'll see how many good legs you still have."

Chenshu: "…"

Damned old man.

Chenshu's eyelashes instantly grew damp, like a small animal that's been badly bullied, pitiful beyond words.

He crouched down beside Jin Chen, placed his hands on Jin Chen's knees, lifted his face to look at him, very obedient, like a puppy waiting to be patted on the head.

"Please, husband."

"I'm so bored; in Yucheng I don't know anyone else but you."

"I just want to go have a look, I promise not to cause trouble. Look, my leg still hurts—what could I possibly do?"

Chenshu said while rubbing his cheek against Jin Chen's knee, then lifted his eyes; his beautiful eyes were glistening, moisture swirling in the sockets, as if they'd spill any second, yet he stubbornly held them back.

Jin Chen lowered his head to look at him.

He had seen many kinds of pleading gazes and didn't consider himself a soft‑hearted person.

But it's not a big deal.

Keeping him under observation for a while longer would also be fine.

Jin Chen placed the heavy book on Chenshu's head: "Get up."

Chenshu didn't move, still holding that posture, gazing at him pleadingly.

Jin Chen locked eyes with him for a moment, then finally said, "Go change your clothes."

Chenshu's eyes lit up: "You agreed?"

"Three minutes." Jin Chen glanced at his watch: "No waiting for latecomers."

Chenshu shot up to his feet; the sudden movement made his knee ache so badly he grimaced, but he didn't care, hobbling toward the entryway.

He slipped on his own shoes, then grabbed the windbreaker Jin Chen had hung on the coat rack and threw it on; the coat was too big, hanging nearly to his ankles, making him look even slimmer.

Chenshu rolled up his sleeves, ran back to Jin Chen's side, eyes shining, "All done!"

Jin Chen glanced at him, said nothing, turned and walked out.

The elevator descended all the way to the underground parking garage.

Chen Gai drove, Jin Chen sat in the back, and Chenshu, of his own accord, opened the other side door and got in.

As soon as Chenshu got in the car, he curiously fiddled here and there, then finally leaned against the window, watching the street scenery fly by in reverse.

Around eight in the morning, the streets were already bustling with traffic, commuters hurried along, and roadside breakfast stalls steamed with vitality.

As the car left the city center, the farther west they went, the lower the buildings became, and the salty sea smell in the air grew stronger.

Twenty minutes later, the car stopped at the entrance of a dock.

Chenshu followed Jin Chen out of the car, and the sea breeze, carrying a salty dampness, blew onto his face.

The dock was huge, its end out of sight, cranes towering into the clouds, and containers piled up like small hills.

"How big." Chenshu exclaimed, "Are all these goods yours?"

Jin Chen didn't answer, but Chen Gai took over, "Eighty percent of Yucheng's port trade passes through Brother Jin's hands; the West Port is the largest, mainly handling building materials, minerals, and bulk commodities."

Chen Gai led the way ahead, Jin Chen walked slowly, and Chenshu strolled beside him, looking around happily.

Finally, they managed to get in.

Today we must complete the plan!
