Chapter 2993: Stubbornly Tamed 10
Chenshu stayed in the restroom for a long time.
Resolving the need itself didn't take much time, but he loitered at the sink for a while, splashing cool water on his face and then on the back of his neck; icy droplets ran down his skin, making him shiver, but the heat on his face finally subsided a bit.
Chenshu poked half his head out, glanced outside first, and the sight almost made him slam the door again.
Two rows of people stood shoulder to shoulder in the hallway, their shoulders as wide as door panels; standing there like ten walls of flesh, they blocked the hallway completely.
The ten people lifted their heads in unison, saw him, and broke into neat, uniform smiles—whether friendly or something else couldn't be told, but in this setting, however you looked at it, it gave you a chill down the spine.
Chenshu slammed the door shut with a bang.
He leaned against the door panel, cursing under his breath. This old man actually had someone guard the restroom door with a gun—was he afraid Chenshu would run, or afraid he'd jump out the window?
He waited a bit longer in the restroom, meanwhile trying to call Jin Chen, but the phone rang and rang with no answer, so he gave up, sat on the toilet lid, and began seriously thinking whether the excuse he'd just made up had any loopholes.
While waiting, Chenshu cycled through the few little games on his phone, then scrolled through his social media feed from start to finish until there was nothing new left.
He had originally planned to slip out while Jin Chen wasn't back, but every time he opened the door, those ten smiling faces turned in unison to look at him, their grins bright as a toothpaste ad, so he had to close the door again.
Chenshu began to feel impatient.
How could this old man go back on his word!
He told him to think up a good excuse, then he himself ran off, leaving Chenshu alone here without any explanation.
Two hours have passed—he's been stuck in this lousy restroom for a full two hours!
Just as Chenshu was wondering whether to try escaping through the window again, movement finally came from outside the door.
Chenshu jumped down from the sink, straightened his clothes, took a deep breath, put on his prepared innocent expression, and then pulled the door open.
But standing outside wasn't Jin Chen, but a youth with red hair dyed a bit garish; seeing Chenshu, his eyes lit up, and he immediately stood at attention and shouted.
"Hello, sister-in-law!"
Chenshu: "……"
The red‑haired youth, however, was easygoing, smiling and saying, "Sister‑in‑law, I'm Yan Rui; you can call me Xiao Yan. President Jin still has some matters to attend to, so let me take you first to Half Mountain Villa to rest."
As he spoke, he turned sideways and made a gesturing invitation. The ten bodyguards outside also turned sideways in unison, clearing a path.
Chenshu didn't move. "Where's Jin Chen?"
"President Jin is still busy; he said he'll return tonight to continue… continue that matter, so you should get ready."
Chenshu: "?" Which matter? A body search? An interrogation?
He blinked, looking puzzled, and asked, "What happened?"
Yan Rui replied vaguely, "Um… President Jin didn't say; you'll find out when you go back and wait for him."
After saying that, he hurriedly turned and walked out, as if afraid Chenshu would ask more. The ten bodyguards immediately fell in step, surrounding him from front, back, left, and right—seemingly protective, but actually tight surveillance; not even a fly could get out.
From this alone, Chenshu could be confident that Jin Chen had already noticed something off about the cargo hold below; he might not know it was Chenshu who did it, but he certainly knew someone had tampered with that shipment, and Chenshu himself had not yet been cleared of suspicion.
So Chenshu cooperatively followed Xiao Yan.
Getting into the car, Chenshu leaned against the window, watching the dock scenery rush by in reverse, and in his mind he cursed Zhou Cheng, the guy who'd ruined his plans, eight hundred times.
If Zhou Cheng hadn't shown up out of the blue, he'd already have the goods and be gone—how could Jin Chen have caught him red‑handed? Now it's fine: he got the stuff, but he himself was exposed and ended up detained.
The car drove out of the dock and onto the coastal road.
The night was deep, traffic sparse, with only streetlights casting fleeting spots of light that swept across the window.
Chenshu was lost in thought when suddenly a muffled sound came from afar.
"Bang."
Gunshot.
Chenshu's heart tightened; he instinctively sat up straight and looked out the window. The sound came from the dock direction, muffled by the waves, indistinct, but he knew he hadn't misheard.
The unease in Chenshu's chest grew heavier.
Jin Chen at the dock……what is he doing?
——
At night, in the open space behind No. 3 Warehouse in West Harbor B District.
Zhou Cheng stood to the side, looking at the blood‑soaked man on the ground, his face pale, palms sweating.
That person lay curled on the ground, trembling uncontrollably, blood oozing from several places on his body.
Jin Chen lowered his eyelids, glanced at him casually, and slightly lifted his chin.
Soon someone dragged the man away, leaving a long dark‑red stain on the ground.
Zhou Cheng stood aside, watching the blood trail that had been dragged out from the door all the way to Jin Chen's feet; he couldn't help feeling nervous, but his expression remained fairly composed.
He stole a glance at Jin Chen.
Jin Chen held a tablet, his finger sliding across the screen, displaying several split‑screen views.
The surveillance system of Half Mountain Villa was his own design; the cameras covered every corner inside and out, with no blind spots.
He pulled up today's footage, the view switching to the villa's bedroom, where he spotted Chenshu's figure.
Chenshu was sound asleep; the blanket only reached his waist, leaving his upper torso bare, wearing a loose white T‑shirt with the hem rolled up to reveal a strip of pale abdomen that rose and fell slightly with his breath, a few strands of gray‑white highlights stuck to his temples, making him look more obedient than when awake.
Jin Chen stared at the screen for a few seconds, the corner of his mouth twitching up slightly.
Just after being caught red‑handed and placed under house arrest, he's actually able to sleep this soundly.
His new wife is far more interesting than he imagined.
Jin Chen turned off the tablet, "Let's go back."
Chen Gai answered with a sound and began tidying the things on the table.
Zhou Cheng hesitated, stepped forward half a pace, and asked in a low voice, "President Jin, do we still need to send people to look for the missing smuggled cargo?"
Jin Chen's steps paused, and he turned his head to look at him.
Being stared at by Jin Chen made Zhou Cheng's scalp tingle, and he quickly lowered his head.
"This matter is left to you to handle."
Zhou Cheng felt a surge of joy in his heart, but his face remained unchanged; he quickly replied, "Yes, President Jin, I will certainly handle it."
