Chapter 3234: Saving Zero Protein Bai Ze's Love Story 35
In the corridor, Bai Ze walked along the wall for a distance, following the spot Pak had told him about during the day, and found the storage cabinet at the corridor corner.
He used the key to open the cabinet door; inside lay a black small box, which, when opened, contained several medicine capsules and a folded tool.
Bai Ze put the box into his coat's inner pocket, stood up, and glanced toward the end of the corridor.
Selina and Jin Junhao's private box was at the turn of the top-floor suite, with many bodyguards stationed outside the box and toward the main entrance.
Bai Ze went around to the side corridor leading to the hidden window connecting to the box's exterior, took out the tool from his pocket, quietly pried open the window's latch, slipped inside, moved into the gap between the box's inner and outer layers, and through the extremely narrow ventilation grille could see the scene inside the box.
He held an anesthetic capsule in his hand, preparing to shoot it through the hidden window after confirming the target's position, but he suddenly heard the conversation inside.
Jin Chen and Chenshu sat on one side of the sofa, while Selina leaned back in a wide armchair opposite them, her red curls spilling over her shoulders, and Jin Junhao sat beside her.
Jin Chen seized the moment to introduce Chenshu to them, quickly moving on to the main topic.
"Selina, are Bai Ze's parents really dead because of you?"
Selina gave Jin Chen a puzzled look, her red curls shaking with the motion, and said, "What?"
She then turned her head to look at Jin Junhao, "Bai Ze… isn't this child the fiancé you picked for my family's Ailinuo?"
Selina's words suddenly trailed off, her smoky-eyed gaze narrowing slightly; after a few seconds, her voice became somewhat different.
"Bai Ze… is he Lao Bai's son?"
Jin Junhao set down his teacup, looking bewildered, "Ah, yes."
Selina slapped the glass of red wine onto the table, fell silent for a few seconds, her expression a complex mix tinged with a hint of vicissitude.
She narrowed her eyes slightly, and when she spoke, her voice sank a few degrees: "Lao Bai and Xi Shu… indeed died because of me; how could this child Bai Ze be…"
Before she finished speaking, she suddenly turned toward the hidden window, drew a short blade from the side of the armchair, and shouted, "Who?"
"Get out here, old lady!"
Beside the hidden window, Bai Ze crushed the anesthetic capsule, and it instantly merged with the alcohol- and incense-scented air inside the box.
Only then did Bai Ze jump out, coldly staring at Selina, his expression unguarded, his eyes filled with hatred he had long concealed.
Jin Junhao recognized him first, "Xiao Bai? How did you come out from inside?"
Bai Ze glanced at him sideways, the coldness on his face easing a little; Jin Junhao was an old family friend of his generation, and had once been acquainted with his father.
Bai Ze slightly bowed his head, "Uncle Jin, long time no see. I'm sorry."
Jin Junhao utterly failed to understand why he was apologizing, just opening his mouth to ask when he saw Bai Ze lunge toward Selina, a short blade sliding out from his sleeve into his palm, the edge flashing with cold light.
"You start fighting over a disagreement?" Jin Junhao paced anxiously beside them, not knowing where to stand, "Xiao Bai, do you have some misunderstanding? You're an obedient child… no, when did you learn to fight!"
On the sofa, Chenshu smelled a different scent in the air.
He frowned, took a small bottle from his pocket, unscrewed the cap, and handed it to Jin Chen's lips, "Drink the antidote first."
"Huh?"
Jin Chen, not understanding, tilted his head back and gulped down the mouthful of antidote; only after swallowing did he have a chance to ask, "What was that just now?"
"Residue of the anesthetic." Chenshu put the medicine bottle away, his gaze shifting to the two people fighting, "The dosage isn't large, but better safe than sorry."
Selina is also hot-tempered, but out of respect for Bai Ze being her son's fiancé, she held back a bit, her short blade only defending, not attacking.
But Bai Ze's strikes grew faster and faster, each blade aimed at her vital points, that hatred making Selina's brows furrow tighter and tighter.
"Do you know what the situation was back then?" Selina parried a blade, stepped back half a step, "You dare lay a hand on this old lady!"
Selina saw the blatant hatred in Bai Ze's eyes that he could not hide, finally losing patience. She swept aside his arm with a dangerous warning, lowering her voice to question, "You've been lurking by my son's side just to get revenge on me?"
Bai Ze's movements faltered for an instant. His eyelids twitched a few times, that sentence striking him where it hurt most.
Seizing the opportunity, Selina backhanded his hand, knocking the short blade away with such force that it was ripped from Bai Ze's grip.
After clearly seeing the marking etched on the blade's hilt, Selina grabbed Bai Ze's collar and pulled him closer, her light eyes churning with anger, "You've entered the Mamen Institute?"
Bai Ze, his collar seized by her, lowered his usually cold gaze to look at her, the corner of his mouth curling into a sneer.
"Standing with your enemies, does that really make you lose composure like this?"
"Fuck!" Selina's adrenaline surged, she gripped her short blade tightly, like a lioness unleashing fury.
"I'll chop you up!"
Jin Junhao, frantic, shoved Jin Chen, "You little brat, what the hell is going on? Why aren't you stopping this!"
Jin Chen, shoved forward by his father, staggered half a step; beside him, Chenshu frowned, reached out to steady Jin Chen, turned to look at Jin Junhao, his tone clearly displeased, "Why are you yelling at him? Why don't you go yourself?"
Jin Junhao: "…?" Oh, he's really pissed off!
Fortunately, Jin Chen and Chenshu exchanged a glance and stepped forward together.
Jin Chen grabbed the hot-tempered stepmother's wrist, pressed her back, deflecting the short blade's point by a hair.
"Ms. Selina! You won't even explain?"
"What the hell is there to explain!" Selina struggled but couldn't break free, her red curls practically exploding with rage, "I really am going to fight this little beast to the death today! Chop him down and let Lao Bai teach him a lesson!"
Bai Ze heard her dare mention his father at this moment, the last flicker of calm in his eyes wavering on the verge of collapse.
Just as the situation was about to spiral out of control again, the box's door was slammed open with a bang.
Everyone froze, all turning toward the doorway.
At the doorway stood Xi Qi, his face ashen, clutching a listening device whose screen was still lit—evidently he had been listening for a while.
Bai Ze recognized the eavesdropper; at once everything became clear. He wanted to speak, but his throat felt blocked, not a sound escaping.
Selina also froze, but seeing Bai Ze stop, she raised her knife again, hoping to take advantage of the moment to strike.
Xi Qi rushed over a few steps, grabbed Bai Ze and pulled him behind himself, shielding him.
"Selina!"
Selina sheepishly lowered her short blade, her messy red hair swept back, "What are you shouting for? Can't you see he's trying to kill your mom!"
Facing Bai Ze, Xi Qi felt his emotions surge and clash in his chest, making his breathing ragged; many words choked in his throat, unable to get out, finally condensing into a single sentence.
"You… the person you want to revenge on is Selina."
