Chapter 134: Are You Even Worthy of Coveting Me?

~8 min read 1,592 words

Sheng Yu's hand holding the wine glass paused.

She had never liked him.

He slowly raised his eyes, glancing at the wall-to-wall mirror opposite; in the dim light, his facial contours appeared even more deep-set and gloomy.

Dong Shu watched his superior profile, watching him release the wine glass to fish a lighter and a cigarette case from his pocket.

The private room was silent.

Sheng Yu pulled a cigarette from the case and held it between his lips, reaching for the lighter, when a slender, soft-fingered hand held a lighter up before him.

A cluster of flames flickered.

Sheng Yu lifted his eyelids to look at Dong Shu's face, illuminated by the firelight.

There was not a hint of shyness or embarrassment, just the usual openness, though the adoration in her eyes was undisguised.

The man did not move; it was a tacit consent.

Dong Shu's heartbeat was like a floodgate opening, impossible to control; her hand holding the lighter trembled slightly as she moved a few inches closer to him to light his cigarette.

Sheng Yu, biting the cigarette, said in a tone devoid of emotion, "She told you this?"

Dong Shu quietly gripped his lighter, "Does Yu Ge not believe me?"

The man chuckled, "Isn't she your friend?"

"Although Zhu Yuan is my friend, I have known you the longest; furthermore, I like you, and I wouldn't watch you be kept in the dark by her," Dong Shu said candidly.

She pulled her phone from her coat pocket, "This is what she said herself."

As she pressed the play button, the content of her conversation with Zhu Yuan in the dressing room played out.

Listening to the woman's soft, hesitant, and aggrieved voice from the phone, Sheng Yu flicked the ash expressionlessly, then moved the cigarette to his lips, sweeping a glance over the phone on the coffee table, his eyes filled with a cold, piercing glint.

The recording came to an abrupt end.

The air pressure in the private room condensed to the extreme.

The man sneered, holding the cigarette; the veins on the back of his hand looked like winding, tangled tree roots in the dim light.

Dong Shu saw this and said with a grave expression, "When Zhu Yuan said she stayed by your side with ulterior motives, I kept a guard up and recorded our conversation. Yu Ge, I didn't want to hide it from you."

"Is it for my own good, or do you have selfish motives?" The man leaned lazily against the back of the chair, his brows cold.

She was very candid, "Of course I have selfish motives; you are the man I like, and I hope you can see the people around you clearly and know who is truly good to you."

Dong Shu crouched by his legs, her fingertips touching his trousers tentatively, "Zhu Yuan's personality is very good, and she is also very beautiful; she is different from the other women in our circle, so it is normal for you to have a passing fancy for her."

Sheng Yu lowered his eyes to glance at her.

"Zhu Yuan stayed by your side with a purpose; you must know that in your heart. But you don't know that she has no place for you in her heart, and you also heard her admit it herself—she likes Lu Huaizhan."

The man pulled another cigarette from the case and lit it.

Dong Shu stood up slowly, her fingers undoing the buttons of her black coat.

She tucked her short hair behind her ears, and as the coat opened, it revealed a black off-the-shoulder mini dress underneath, exposing her delicate collarbones and the slight rise and fall of her chest.

At one meter seventy, the long legs beneath the hem of the dress were slender and fair.

Dong Shu tossed the coat aside and crouched back down by Sheng Yu's legs, looking up at him, "Yu Ge, I am no worse than Zhu Yuan. And I truly like you; I have liked you since I was little. I am willing to do anything for you, even if you wanted my life, I would give it."

A man is most easily conquered when he is in a bad mood, especially after an argument with a woman and learning the truth, when his defenses are at their weakest.

Sheng Yu tossed the lighter aside, only then letting his gaze fall upon her face.

"Dressed like this just to see me?"

Dong Shu poured wine into his glass, handed it to his side, and looked at him expectantly, "Do you like it?"

Sheng Yu took the glass, his eyes deep and dark, "I can't see clearly."

Dong Shu's eyes brightened slightly; she braced her hands on Sheng Yu's knees to stand up and leaned in close to him, "Can you see clearly now?"

The man had one arm draped over the back of the sofa, the other holding the wine glass.

The smell of alcohol on him indicated he had already drunk quite a lot.

Dong Shu knew his tolerance was high, but even the best tolerance has a limit, especially since he had been drinking more heavily than usual while Yuan Fengye was still there; he was likely a bit drunk now.

He crooked his finger at Dong Shu.

As if encouraged, Dong Shu leaned forward a bit more, though whether intentional or not, her body swayed, and she braced her palm on the man's shoulder; a faint fragrance intertwined with the scent of alcohol.

As she raised her eyes, the love in them could no longer be restrained.

Looking at the man she had missed for so many years before her.

Dong Shu steeled her heart and lowered her head to kiss him.

However, Sheng Yu turned his face away, grabbed Dong Shu by the chin, and poured the entire glass of wine in his hand into her mouth!

The sudden turn of events left Dong Shu unable to react.

Watching Dong Shu choke and cough from being forced to drink, he suddenly sneered, "How interesting."

Dong Shu clutched her throat, her throat burning; in the moment she was stunned, Sheng Yu moved his hand from her chin to grip her neck, "Are you even worthy of coveting me?"

"Yu, Yu Ge!" Dong Shu tried to pry the man's hand away, but she couldn't even budge a single finger of Sheng Yu's.

Looking at the man's gloomy and ruthless expression, Dong Shu's heart plummeted into an abyss.

She suddenly realized that she had just been played by Sheng Yu's dog-teasing tactics.

Sheng Yu threw her aside, "Zhu Yuan is an ungrateful wolf who cannot be tamed and has a strong sense of defense; how long have you known her? Did you really think she would be open and honest with you? You were too impatient, Dong Shu; she saw through your feelings for me."

Dong Shu fell to the floor after being thrown, but because of the man's words, she felt no pain, only disbelief and confusion, "How is that possible? How could she?"

She had never revealed a hint of her adoration for Sheng Yu in front of Zhu Yuan.

How could Zhu Yuan possibly know?

She suddenly realized something—Zhu Yuan had said those things on purpose!

Zhu Yuan must have guessed something and wanted to make her lose her composure.

And by telling Sheng Yu about the recording, she had exposed herself!

If she truly considered Zhu Yuan a friend, she would not have exposed Zhu Yuan in front of Sheng Yu.

"The Horse Racing Track breeder, you were the one who sent people to assassinate him, weren't you?"

Dong Shu denied it flatly: "The accident at the Horse Racing Track was Ning Chu's doing; didn't you already find that out?"

However, the man seemed not to care at all about what she said, or rather, he did not need her admission, "Ning Chu said someone used this to threaten her, demanding she deal with Zhu Yuan, and it had to be in a crowded place."

"Why?"

A mocking smile spread across Sheng Yu's lips, "You wanted to expose Zhu Yuan so that the Uncle Sheng you speak of would know of her existence, and you would be able to keep yourself clean; what a clever move to borrow a knife to kill."

Dong Shu's lips trembled.

But there was one thing that had not been found out yet, Sheng Yu's tone was cold, "The encirclement operation in the suburbs of the capital was directed and acted by you, wasn't it?"

Dong Shu lay on the ground without speaking, her shoulders trembling; she turned over, gasping for air.

Looking at her abnormally flushed face, Sheng Yu narrowed his eyes.

He turned his head to look at the wine glass he had tossed aside, his gaze landing on Dong Shu once more; she was wearing a gemstone ring on the ring finger of her right hand.

He never touched things handed to him by other women; so there really was Medicine.

Dong Shu pulled at her off-the-shoulder collar in agony, "Yu Ge, please help me..."

Sheng Yu stood up, showing not a hint of drunkenness; he did not even glance at the woman on the ground, without a shred of pity, "I originally intended to deal with you tomorrow, but since you delivered yourself to your own death, I cannot refuse your kind offer."

He took out his phone and made a call.

"Call a few male escorts to properly serve Miss Dong."
