Chapter 138: In Your Eyes, I Am Capable of Every Evil
The visitation time arranged by Sheng Yu was longer than the standard procedure.
Even so, time still slipped away rapidly.
When the prison guard signaled that time was up, Zhu Yuan's eyes instantly turned red; she pressed her hand against the glass, suppressing a sob in her throat, "Brother, you must take care of yourself. I'll come to see you again next time."
Zhu Jingyao looked at her face with a complex expression, sighed helplessly, raised his hand, and covered her small hand with his large palm through the glass, "Don't worry about me, take good care of Grandfather... and yourself."
Zhu Yuan just kept nodding like a child, not daring to look up at him.
Suddenly, she lifted her gaze and saw the hand Zhu Jingyao had pulled back.
Zhu Jingyao had a neutral complexion, neither fair nor dark, and several bruises on his wrist were clearly visible. They should have been hidden by him, but they were exposed the moment he raised his hand.
"Wait!" Zhu Yuan clung to the glass window and asked urgently, "Brother, what happened to your hand?"
Zhu Jingyao pulled his hand back without changing his expression, "It's nothing, I just got hurt accidentally while working."
Was that really an injury from working?
Zhu Yuan didn't believe it at all, "Pull up your sleeve and let me see."
"Yuanyuan..." Zhu Jingyao frowned.
In the past, whenever he frowned, Zhu Yuan would instantly behave herself, whether she was fighting, arguing, climbing trees, or jumping around.
But Zhu Yuan insisted, "Let me see, and I'll leave. Otherwise, I'll just stay here and refuse to go. If they hurt me while trying to drag me away, I won't care."
"Are you trying to be unreasonable with me?" Zhu Jingyao said in a low voice, "Go back!"
Zhu Yuan stood there motionless, staring with her large, clear eyes.
Seeing this, the prison guard beside Zhu Jingyao reminded them, "Visitation time is over, we need to take him in."
"Brother, don't go!" Zhu Yuan shouted anxiously, "Zhu Jingyao!"
However, Zhu Jingyao did not look back.
The girl's sobbing voice from behind reached his ears: "If you do this, I won't come to see you next time!"
The man's footsteps faltered, his body stiffened; he looked back with a gaze full of calm, thin anger—she had grown up and now dared to threaten him.
But he knew this younger sister of his too well.
"Don't come then, it's best if you never come to this place again," Zhu Jingyao said, hardening his heart.
The iron door closed, and his figure vanished from sight.
Zhu Yuan cried in anger.
Her parents often said that she and her brother were both stubborn, each more so than the other. But she was the only one who could tame her brother's stubborn temper; yet now, in order to hide the injuries on his body, he disregarded her and even said such heartless words.
It was obvious that he had lied; those were not injuries from labor reform work at all.
Zhu Yuan walked out of the visitation room in a bad mood.
Outside, it was a world of ice and snow. As soon as she stepped out, a cold wind swirling with snowflakes blew into her face, and a large black umbrella opened to shield her from the wind and snow.
Looking at her red eyes and nose, it was clear she had been crying.
"Heartbroken?" the man's cold voice carried no discernible emotion.
Zhu Yuan pulled her scarf tighter; her delicate little face was framed by the white scarf, making it look even smaller.
She sniffled, her emotions clouding her judgment, and blurted out, "Did you hire someone to beat my brother?"
"Yes, I didn't have them beaten half to death, and now I regret it." Sheng Yu held the umbrella and forcefully took her hand, tucking it into his coat pocket.
Upon hearing this, Zhu Yuan knew it wasn't him.
But with this sarcastic tone, he was angry.
She blinked and said, "I'm sorry, I was overwhelmed by my emotions and spoke without thinking."
Sheng Yu let out a cold snort, roughly put a hat on her, forcibly led her down the stairs, and shoved her into the car, "It's fine, anyway, in your eyes I am capable of every evil, one more thing doesn't matter."
Enzo chimed in from the side, "Fighting and brawling are very common in prison; there are all kinds of people in there."
But these words did not make Zhu Yuan feel any better.
Although her brother had some athletic talent, it was limited to regular sports like basketball; how could he have any chance of winning against those brutes?
The car drove out of Jingjiao Prison.
In the car, Zhu Yuan's mind was occupied by the injuries on her brother's wrists.
There must be other injuries in places she couldn't see, and they couldn't have just happened recently.
It just happened that she discovered them today.
The car drove toward Qi Family Manor.
Zhu Yuan withdrew her thoughts and glanced at the man sitting beside her, whose expression was not good. She realized that her previous words had angered him, and a simple apology would not be enough for him to accept.
But if she begged him to save her brother now, would he agree?
In the current situation, the answer was obvious.
Along the way, the air pressure inside the car remained in a state of cold condensation.
Sheng Yu didn't speak, and Zhu Yuan didn't speak either; Zhu Yuan even closed her eyes and pretended to sleep, so she didn't see that after she closed her eyes, Sheng Yu looked toward her, his anger—which he had suppressed in front of her—now showing without restraint.
The moment she opened her mouth, she asked if he had hired someone to beat Zhu Jingyao?
Was a single apology enough?
However, there was one thing he hadn't said just to spite her: he really did want to get rid of Zhu Jingyao so he would stop being an eyesore in front of him.
The car stopped in the courtyard of Qi Family Manor, and Qi Qi, dressed in a fluffy pink outfit, pounced toward Zhu Yuan, "Auntie Yuanyuan!"
The road was slippery from the snow, and fearing she might fall, Zhu Yuan hurried over and half-squatted to welcome her.
Qi Qi threw herself into her arms, opened her round eyes wide, and said with joy, "Auntie Yuanyuan, you really came! Dad said you and Uncle had a fight, and I thought you wouldn't pay attention to me anymore."
She pouted her little mouth and turned to glare at Sheng Yu, "Uncle, you can't bully Auntie Yuanyuan."
Sheng Yu sneered inwardly: who was bullying whom?
Qi Jing, who had caught up from behind, heard this and revealed an awkward but polite smile.
On one side was his beloved daughter, and on the other was Sheng Yu; he did not act like other fathers and explain that children talk nonsense and should not be taken to heart, as he did not want to give Qi Qi any wrong examples.
Instead, he said, "It seems you have made up."
Sheng Yu glanced at him nonchalantly.
Zhu Yuan picked up Qi Qi and said softly, "We are us, our friendship will last forever, it has nothing to do with anyone else."
This "anyone else" was practically naming names.
Sheng Yu's face darkened; she was drawing a line between them at every moment.
Qi Jing cleared his throat; it seemed they had not made up yet.
But that was to be expected; what kind of words could Yu Ge's mouth say to coax a girl?
It would be good enough if he didn't make someone cry from anger.
Zhu Yuan was being pulled by the hand by Qi Qi toward the house, and as they brushed past, she heard Qi Jing ask Sheng Yu, "I heard Dong Shu drugged you last night?"
Sheng Yu stared at the woman's back and gave a cold, indifferent "Mm," adding, "I almost became a victim."
Qi Jing looked at him, then at Zhu Yuan, who had paused in her steps; how could he have the nerve to say such a thing?
