Chapter 142: If You Want to Blame Someone, Blame Sheng Yu

~7 min read 1,351 words

At 9:20 AM Kyoto time that day, the news that Dong Shu had jumped from a high-rise building to commit suicide spread rapidly through the entire upper-class circle.

Yuan Fengye and Qi Jing contacted Sheng Yu at the first opportunity.

With something happening to Dong Shu, the Dong Family would certainly hold the grudge against Sheng Yu.

The two arrived at Sheng Yu's office one after the other.

They only heard Sheng Yu say coldly and heavily, "I have already sent Situ to investigate the truth."

"You suspect this is a trap?" Qi Jing asked in surprise.

Sheng Yu leaned against the back of his chair, his expression cold and stern, his fingertips tapping lightly on the desktop, "How many years have you known Dong Shu?"

Qi Jing pondered for a few seconds, knowing that Sheng Yu did not really want to know how long he had known Dong Shu, but wanted to say—"Dong Shu is not the type to seek death, jumping off a building to commit suicide is indeed not something she would do."

"But she is a woman after all, and women have an inexplicable obsession with such matters; if they can't get past this hurdle, they feel they have no face to live in this world." Yuan Fengye held a cigarette between his fingertips, having lost his usual roguish, unserious demeanor.

He handed a cigarette to Sheng Yu, who took it and picked up a lighter, but when his thumb swiped, the flame did not ignite.

An inexplicable sense of unease spread in his chest.

The next second, a cell phone rang abruptly.

Sheng Yu picked up his phone and swiped the screen.

"Young Master Yu," Situ's calm and steady voice came from the other end of the line, "The person is truly dead."

Hearing this, Yuan Fengye and Qi Jing's hearts sank instantly.

Yet they saw Sheng Yu hang up the phone and suddenly stand up; as he walked out, he dialed a number, and as the beeping connection tone sounded in his ear, the unease in his heart climbed to its peak.

The call, however, did not go through.

Qi Jing and Yuan Fengye sensed something was wrong and hurriedly stood up to follow him.

Sheng Yu dialed another number.

"Enzo, where is Zhu Yuan?"

Enzo replied immediately, "Miss Zhu went into the dressing room to change clothes; I am guarding the door."

"Knock on the door," the man said in a low voice.

Enzo had always obeyed Sheng Yu's orders and knocked on the dressing room door without hesitation.

However, there was no movement inside.

Enzo frowned slightly and knocked again, "Miss Zhu!"

Still no movement.

The man's breathing on the other end of the phone clearly deepened, "Break the door!"

Having knocked for so long, there was no reason for Zhu Yuan not to hear; Enzo also realized something was wrong and delivered a roundhouse kick, kicking the door open directly.

In the dressing room permeated with a feminine fragrance, there was no sign of Zhu Yuan.

Enzo rushed in immediately, quickly looked around, and his expression changed, "Miss Zhu is gone!"

The expression of Sheng Yu on the other end of the phone suddenly darkened, and a cold, sinister look quickly climbed into his eyes and brows.

The back door of the Theater.

Pei Ling leaned against the back of the driver's seat, one hand resting on the steering wheel, a lollipop in his mouth, his eyes half-closed.

The surrounding noisy car horns, engine sounds, and the music coming from the theater's rehearsal hall were intertwined.

It was even more effective than the Qingxin Mantra at helping him calm his mind.

Suddenly, the sound of harsh braking mixed into it.

He frowned in displeasure and swept a cold glance over.

A black sedan stopped quickly at the theater's back door, and the car door was pulled open rapidly.

That spot was behind a tree covered in white snow, a blind spot for surveillance; even if there were cameras around, it would be difficult to capture.

But from Pei Ling's hidden angle, two men hurried over from the direction of the theater's back garden, carrying a person wrapped in a black coat, and quickly shoved them into the car cabin.

The incident happened too fast; almost in the blink of an eye, the car had already driven away from the scene.

It was clearly a premeditated kidnapping.

In Pei Ling's mind flashed the slender, fair wrist that had dangled from inside the black coat.

And a red agate bracelet on the wrist.

His gaze turned sharp, he bit down and crushed the lollipop, started the car, and cursed: "I owe her!"

A gust of cold wind blew, and Zhu Yuan shivered from the cold, slowly opening her eyes.

Her brain had not yet resumed functioning.

The surrounding white snow was blinding; she closed her eyes instinctively, but suddenly her body rolled onto the ground, and she woke up with a start.

The cold wind mixed with snowflakes kept hitting her face.

Only then did she see clearly that she was on the top floor of a high-rise building; looking out, there were patches of high-rise residential areas covered in plain snow, and the bone-chilling wind came from all directions.

She had been off yesterday, so she wanted to practice her dance again before today's performance to avoid getting rusty from not dancing for a day.

Before entering the dressing room, Enzo had checked the surrounding environment to ensure there were no problems before she went to change clothes.

Who would have thought that as soon as she pulled open the cabinet door, a pungent smell rushed toward her, and she lost consciousness before she could even cry out.

She lay on the snow, her peripheral vision catching several pairs of men's feet.

Who kidnapped her?

Sheng Hongyao or someone from the Dong Family?

The man in black suddenly lifted her up from the ground, "Our eldest young lady just left; Mr. Dong ordered that you go down to accompany her."

Zhu Yuan's whole body stiffened, "Dong Shu is dead?"

The men did not want to say anything more to her; they roughly dragged her to the railing and said viciously, "Mr. Dong said if you want to blame someone, blame Sheng Yu! It was he who caused your death!"

Zhu Yuan struggled, snow beneath her feet, the melted snow seeping into her shoes.

She could not feel a shred of the cold, struggling with all her might!

She could not die here, she absolutely could not die here!

"Mr. Dong said to throw her down after humiliating her, leave her stark naked, and avenge the young miss!"

Those men suddenly began to tear at her clothes, pinning her against the railing with a backhand, grabbing her hair violently, ripping off her coat, and tearing her sweater.

"Let me go—"

Zhu Yuan resisted like a madwoman; a dark hand reached for her neck to pull off her sweater, and she bit down with red eyes.

"Ah!" the man cried out in pain, and Zhu Yuan immediately curled her body and shoved with all her might, knocking the man in front of her away.

But how could she, alone, be a match for several brawny Bodyguards?

After she knocked one of them away, she was thrown back against the railing by the other two.

Her body hit the railing, but because everything around was snowy, wet, and slippery, she was knocked directly over the outside of the railing.

The near-death sensation of falling, snowflakes rustling onto her face, Zhu Yuan's vision went black.

Suddenly, a hand that felt even colder than the ice and snow clamped tightly onto her wrist.

The cold wind whipped up Zhu Yuan's long hair, making her small face appear even paler.

She looked at the man holding her wrist, still shaken, as he looked at her with the gaze one might use for an idiot, a flash of sharp light in his dark brown pupils piercing through the wind and snow like a blade.

"Do you want to come up?"
