Chapter 285: Going Out and Getting Kidnapped

~8 min read 1,401 words

Zhu Jingyao was sitting in his study, typing code on his computer.

He had originally studied Genetic Engineering in college, but later, when Zhu Yuan thought Aerospace Engineering was cool—though her grades made it difficult for her to apply for the major—he changed his major to fulfill her dream.

In any case, for him, no matter what he studied, it was equally effortless.

Aerospace Engineering is a systematic discipline, and programming is one part of it.

Even if he went out into the computer industry, he could become a leader in the field.

He picked up this skill again because he wanted to find Zhu Yuan.

At this moment, Zhu Yuan's call happened to come through to Zhu Qi's mobile phone; the grandfather and granddaughter were talking.

And he was using the virtual number she was using to track her current location.

A virtual number meant that even the IP address was virtual, so finding her location was not easy, but over the past few months, he had become proficient in this technology; he only needed a little time to find her.

Suddenly, the door to the study was knocked.

Zhu Qi's voice came from outside: "Jingyao, Yuanyuan wants to talk to you."

Interrupted, Zhu Jingyao frowned slightly, but he did not get angry at his grandfather; he closed his computer, stood up, and walked out, pulling the door open, and Zhu Qi handed him the phone with a smile.

"Yuanyuan." Zhu Jingyao took the phone and held it to his ear, his voice gentle and low.

Zhu Yuan's soft voice came through, "Brother, I just heard Grandfather coughing; did he catch a cold?"

Zhu Jingyao glanced at Zhu Qi, who was curious and embarrassed to be eavesdropping, and turned on the speakerphone directly: "He does have a bit of a cold; he drank iced cola yesterday. I've already bought him Medicine, but he won't listen to me and refuses to take it properly."

The person on the other end of the phone hummed: "Grandfather!"

"Present!" Zhu Qi shouted.

Zhu Jingyao chuckled.

Zhu Yuan said in a feigned angry tone: "Brother bought you Medicine, so take it properly; don't be difficult, you know? And how could you drink cola!"

"It wasn't cola, it was Sprite."

"Is there a difference?"

Zhu Qi argued: "I checked; Sprite doesn't contain caffeine or phosphoric acid, so it's less irritating to the body and doesn't affect calcium absorption."

Zhu Yuan on the other end of the phone was speechless; sure enough, when people get old, they are just like children. Look at how greedy her grandfather is—no wonder people say she is a foodie; it turns out she was influenced by her grandfather since she was young.

"Anyway, you just can't drink it."

"Why?" Zhu Qi was unconvinced.

Zhu Yuan blurted out: "Because I can't drink it either!"

Not only ice cream, but even cola and drinks were forbidden by Pei Ling; before she gave birth, no one was allowed to buy them for the house.

Just because she said that day that she had a stomachache because she ate ice cream, even though Pei Ling found out the truth later, he didn't let her eat those things anymore to punish her.

Zhu Qi's eyes paused slightly.

Zhu Qi didn't notice anything and muttered: "You can't drink it, so you won't let me drink it!"

"You caught a cold after drinking it."

The grandfather and granddaughter went back and forth over the phone, neither willing to back down.

Zhu Jingyao smiled and patted Zhu Qi on the shoulder, "You go downstairs first; I'll talk to Yuanyuan for a bit."

Closing the study door behind him, Zhu Jingyao turned off the speakerphone and held the phone to his ear, "Yuanyuan, what are you doing?"

"I'm cooling off." Zhu Yuan was lying on a rocking chair, holding a cattail-leaf fan.

"You just told Grandfather that you can't drink cola either; why?" Zhu Jingyao walked to the window of the study, looking at the colorful patterns of various sizes on the glass, though they didn't look very good.

Zhu Yuan said "mm": "I had an upset stomach a few days ago."

She was keeping it from her family, secretly keeping the child.

When the time was right in the future, she would tell her grandfather and brother herself.

"Are you still uncomfortable now?" Zhu Jingyao asked with heartache.

"I'm not uncomfortable anymore, Brother. Don't worry about me; I'm just as greedy as Grandfather."

Zhu Jingyao heard the sound of wind coming from the other end of the phone and couldn't imagine what she looked like now, "Can you tell Brother where you are now?"

After a moment of silence, Zhu Yuan said in a low voice: "Brother, I am living very well here. You don't need to worry about me; just take good care of Grandfather, and you don't need to worry about anything else."

"But so many days have passed, how could I not worry? You have never been on such a long trip before."

"Pei Ling is protecting me," Zhu Yuan said without hesitation.

These words were heard by Pei Ling, who had just come out of the room; he raised his eyebrows slightly. Her tone, so unmasked and blurted out, made him feel very gratified.

It wasn't in vain that he had doted on her.

Zhu Jingyao knew she wouldn't answer, but it didn't matter; he was about to crack the location of where she was anyway.

"Then be careful in everything; I will take good care of Grandfather."

"Then thank you for your hard work, Brother," Zhu Yuan said with a smile.

Zhu Jingyao's heart felt soft; Yuanyuan, I miss you so much.

After hanging up the phone, Zhu Jingyao looked at the code constantly jumping on the computer screen, and among a string of IP addresses, his gaze locked onto one.

Because this address appeared the most frequently.

He quickly opened another computer, rapidly entered the IP address, and his fingertips pressed the enter key; the webpage redirected—Licheng.

Zhu Jingyao's expression froze; it was actually at the border?

However, it would still take some time to pinpoint her exact location.

If he set off for Licheng rashly now, it was very likely that before he could find Zhu Yuan, he would be discovered by Pei Ling's people, and by then, if they moved to another place, it would be even harder to find her.

Zhu Jingyao went downstairs and returned the phone to Zhu Qi, "Go to sleep early; I'm going out for a walk."

He hadn't left the house for the past few days, and thinking about how Zhu Yuan had unreservedly trusted and relied on Pei Ling on the phone just now made his mood very chaotic.

He was just an ordinary person; no matter how smart he was, he couldn't compare to those top-tier powerful elites.

This is a class difference that cannot be bridged.

Pei Ling can provide her with excellent protection, but Pei Ling's affection for Yuanyuan is likely no less than his own.

This feeling makes him feel annoyed yet powerless to vent.

Zhu Jingyao left home; he did not drive, but simply walked along the road in the villa district.

He does not like to go to crowded places when he takes a walk, so he took a secluded path.

After walking for who knows how long, he glanced at the time and felt uneasy about leaving his grandfather home alone, so he prepared to turn around and head back the way he came.

Suddenly, a series of roaring sounds came one after another.

Alarm bells rang in Zhu Jingyao's heart; beams of blinding headlights shone over, and he instinctively raised his hand to shield his eyes from the glare, vaguely seeing several black sedans speeding toward him.

The cars surrounded him in a pincer formation.

Several men looking like Bodyguards quickly got out of the cars, each one looking aggressive; Zhu Jingyao's expression changed slightly, and he turned to run toward a more crowded area.

However, those were well-trained Bodyguards who could easily catch up to a scholar like him.

At first, Zhu Jingyao was still able to fend off a few moves, but he could not withstand the fact that his opponents were trained fighters and there were many of them; the moment his back was left unguarded, he was knocked unconscious by a club!
