Chapter 5: I Have No Interest in My Brother's Fiancée
Just as Ling Bing walked toward her with a deathly pale face, preparing to speak—
Zhu Yuan struck first, her eyes turning red in a second. "Miss Ling, although I don't know why you are targeting me like this, you don't need to apologize to me."
"I..." Ling Bing hadn't even reacted to what kind of Medicine Zhu Yuan was selling in her gourd.
Zhu Yuan's eyes grew even redder than before, wearing an expression of stoic endurance. "After the scene tonight, my reputation is secondary, and this bit of grievance is nothing, but the fact that the Lu Family almost lost face is what matters most. You should apologize to the old lady and the Lu family members."
As soon as these words were spoken, the crowd that had been waiting for Ling Bing to apologize to Zhu Yuan finally realized what was happening!
They began to condemn her one after another!
"This Miss Ling is being far too overbearing; she doesn't even look at what kind of place this is!"
"I don't think she's targeting Zhu Yuan at all; she's just unhappy with the Lu Family!"
"The Ling Family has really grown bold, daring to not even put the Lu Family in their eyes!"
One accusation after another was heaped upon her; Ling Bing's face turned so pale it was almost transparent, and her body couldn't stop trembling.
The Lu Family was not someone she dared to offend.
The Lu Family was one of the Kyoto Five Great Families, and the recently deceased Lu Huaizhan was a good brother of the Sheng Family Crown Prince.
In her heart, she cursed Zhu Yuan as a dead green tea bitch!
It was clearly Zhu Yuan who hadn't been keeping to herself, so how could she turn the tables like this!
Seeing the crowd turn against her, the situation was no longer something she could control.
She had truly underestimated Zhu Yuan!
Now caught in a dilemma, she had no choice but to bite the bullet and say to Lu Laotaitai, "I'm sorry, Old Lady. I was impulsive and muddled tonight, and my eyes deceived me."
"Muddled?" Lu Laotaitai let out a cold snort. "You're an adult, aren't you? You think you can clear your name with just one word of being 'muddled'? This matter isn't that simple!"
"And all of you who are here to watch the spectacle, disperse at once!"
With her eldest grandson having passed away and this farce on top of it, Lu Laotaitai was exhausted, appearing to have aged several years all at once. She turned to Sheng Yu and said, "I've let you see a joke. I'm tired; I'm going back to my room to rest."
Sheng Yu nodded slightly.
The Lu family members greeted Sheng Yu one after another and left, surrounding the old lady.
The once-crowded corridor suddenly became empty.
Zhu An'an stole a glance at Sheng Yu, her cheeks heating up slightly, her hands hanging at her sides clenched tightly.
This was her first time being this close to Sheng Yu, the legendary pride of heaven, the successor to the Sheng Group.
In the past, she rarely even had the chance to look at him from afar.
She quietly took a breath and said softly, "Young Master Yu, I'm sorry for dragging you into this farce, and thank you for saving our Yuanyuan."
Sheng Yu's gaze fell gloomily on Zhu Yuan's head. "The person involved should have a mouth; she can thank me herself."
Zhu Yuan's scalp went numb; he was calling her out.
She tugged at the corners of her mouth, appearing very docile and obedient. "Thank you for tonight, Yu Ge."
"You're welcome," Sheng Yu glanced at the black shirt she was wearing. "I am kind-hearted and righteous; it was just a small effort."
He did not look at Zhu An'an once throughout the entire time.
A strange look flashed through Zhu An'an's eyes, and she gave a gentle smile, elegant and graceful without losing propriety.
Ling Bing was still so terrified by the old lady's words—"This matter isn't that simple"—that she had lost her wits. Hindered by Sheng Yu's presence, she didn't even dare to cry, standing in the draft and shaking like chaff in the wind.
"Get lost, now!" Yuan Fengye was annoyed just looking at her.
Today was Zhan Ge's funeral, and these people dared to stir up trouble here and frame Zhu Yuan. Did they really think the Lu family was easy to bully?
He spoke up to comfort Zhu Yuan, "Little Sister-in-law, don't lower yourself to her level. There are plenty of people who will deal with someone of her character."
Zhu Yuan felt a bit dazed by his calling her "Little Sister-in-law."
In truth, although she and Lu Huaizhan were engaged, they hadn't known each other before the engagement.
The reason she had become engaged to Lu Huaizhan was somewhat absurd.
Because Lu Huaizhan had contracted a strange illness and fallen into a coma, the Lu Family had tried every method to wake him, and they had thought of a "spirit-marrying" ritual.
It was a mysterious affair; the day after the engagement, Lu Huaizhan woke up. At first, he had made a huge scene over such an absurd thing, but later, for some reason, he had compromised.
But less than three months later, his condition suddenly worsened, and he passed away early yesterday morning.
Zhu Yuan knew she couldn't live up to this title of "Little Sister-in-law."
But she still gave Yuan Fengye a smile to show she was fine.
In the blink of an eye, Zhu An'an and her little group of friends were gone.
Seeing that Sheng Yu and Yuan Fengye were also about to leave, she hurriedly spoke up, "Young Master Yu."
Sheng Yu stopped in his tracks.
Yuan Fengye also stopped, looked at him, then at Zhu Yuan, and gave a dry laugh. "I'm going to the front to smoke a cigarette."
After he left, Zhu Yuan walked up to Sheng Yu.
Standing before the man who was 1.9 meters tall, Zhu Yuan appeared so petite. His aura right now was completely different from that in the bathroom, pressing down on her until her heart pounded.
She said solemnly to Sheng Yu, "Thank you for just now."
However, she didn't expect Sheng Yu to ask her, "What did you call me?"
"Huh?" Zhu Yuan looked up at him.
"It seems you didn't listen to Lu Huaizhan much either."
Zhu Yuan finally realized; she had called him "Yu Ge" earlier. She felt embarrassed and her face turned red. "I was presumptuous just now; please don't hold it against me."
That "Yu Ge"—what status did she have to call him that?
She had at least that much self-awareness.
Sheng Yu stroked the watch on his wrist, his voice deep and gloomy. "It was indeed quite presumptuous."
Zhu Yuan's cheeks heated up, and she was momentarily speechless; she suddenly didn't know how to respond to that.
A normal person would say "it's no trouble" or "it doesn't matter," but this person is Sheng Yu, the one rumored to be the most temperamental, unconventional, and untouchable of them all.
"You were quite eloquent just a moment ago; why have you become a mute in front of me?"
Sheng Yu lowered his eyes to look at hers; her tears came as soon as she wanted them to, and her sense of grievance flared up in a second.
It would truly be a waste of talent if she didn't act in stage plays.
How could Zhu Yuan not hear the mockery in Sheng Yu's words? If it were anyone else, she would have rushed up to berate them, but when it came to Sheng Yu, she truly did not dare.
She tried hard to squeeze out a smile, "That was just dealing with minor characters, so of course I could handle it with ease; you are Young Master Yu, not an ordinary person."
Sheng Yu sneered, "Are you insulting me in a roundabout way?"
"I wouldn't dare," Zhu Yuan lowered her head.
The night gradually deepened.
The evening breeze brushed against the white gauze under the veranda, like churning waves.
One tall and one short shadow were cast onto the ground, stretching all the way to the end of the invisible darkness.
"There's no need to be so reserved; if Lu Huaizhan hadn't entrusted me to take care of you before he died, do you think I would be willing to involve myself in your affairs?"
Sheng Yu lowered his eyes to look at her, his gaze indifferent.
"Rest assured, I have no interest in my brother's fiancée."
