Chapter 6: For the Sake of Avoiding Suspicion

~8 min read 1,526 words

Zhu Yuan was slightly stunned.

So it was Lu Huaizhan who had entrusted Sheng Yu to look after her.

She had thought Lu Huaizhan despised her.

After Lu Huaizhan woke up from his coma, he was very repulsed by her at first and wouldn't speak to her at all; after they had more contact, he started to despise her for not being gentle and for using foul language. Lu Huaizhan was often so angered by her that his face would turn red, and he would demand to know if she was even a woman.

She hadn't expected that he would actually do this for her.

Lu Huaizhan is a good person.

Zhu Yuan lowered her eyes slightly; if only he could live a little longer.

Sheng Yu's brow twitched imperceptibly, and he said coldly, "You reek of fish."

Zhu Yuan snapped back to reality, raised her hand to smell it, and then grabbed her hair to smell that too; it did have a bit of a scent.

That pond was stocked with many carp, and they were fed until they were as fat as pufferfish.

She had been scooping water plants from the water, and her fingers had even been nibbled by a fish.

She stepped back in embarrassment and turned to walk hurriedly toward the house.

Day after day, they won't be satisfied until they embarrass her to death, right?

Sheng Yu withdrew his gaze, and just as he turned around, he heard the sound of Zhu Yuan collapsing behind him!

Situ had just turned his head when he saw the man standing beside him already striding into the house with his long legs.

"Zhu Yuan!"

Sheng Yu, with a cold and sunken face, scooped her into his arms and carried her horizontally.

Zhu Yuan was completely unconscious, her head lolling against his chest.

Situ lowered his head, not daring to look around, and analyzed, "Miss Zhu must have been drugged, leaving her body weak, and then she had that confrontation with them just now, which exhausted her physical strength."

"Call Yuan Fengye." Sheng Yu said as he walked toward the doorway.

"Yes."

Situ hurried outside and ran into Yuan Fengye, who was smoking at the corner.

"Where is Yu Ge?" Yuan Fengye's lazy posture straightened in a second.

"Miss Zhu has fainted. Young Master Yu is about to take her to the hospital and told me to call you."

Yuan Fengye was puzzled: "Call me?"

Situ explained: "To use you to avoid suspicion."

Yuan Fengye: "..."

He dared not speak his anger, stubbed out his cigarette, and followed closely behind Situ, grumbling under his breath.

Hospital ward.

The moment the needle was pulled out, Zhu Yuan, on the hospital bed, furrowed her brows and slowly drifted awake.

"You're awake?"

Zhu Yuan opened her eyes, and a female doctor leaned over and asked softly, "Is there anywhere else you feel uncomfortable?"

Only then did Zhu Yuan recognize that this was a hospital ward.

She shook her head.

The doctor smiled, "You slept for two hours; you should have more energy now."

Zhu Yuan was stunned; she had actually slept for two hours.

"Who brought me here?"

She vaguely remembered that before she fainted, she had been criticized for reeking of fish, and she was just about to go back to take a bath when the dizziness came so suddenly that she hadn't even had time to cry out before she lost consciousness.

The doctor shook her head, "I heard the dean call him Young Master Yu."

Just as Sheng Yu's face flashed through Zhu Yuan's mind, she was pulled back to reality by the commotion outside the door.

Feng Mingyue pushed the door open, walked over quickly, and held her hand with concern, "Your father received a call saying you fainted. How are you feeling now?"

This was Zhu Yuan's biological mother, Mrs. Zhu, Feng Mingyue.

And standing behind her were her father, Zhu Chaoqin, and Zhu An'an.

"She just fainted from overexertion; there is nothing seriously wrong." After the doctor finished speaking, she nodded slightly to them and left the ward.

That big shot's assistant had reminded her before leaving to keep her mouth shut.

The patient had clearly been drugged, causing her body to be weak, but she wouldn't talk about things that shouldn't be said.

However, that young lady had been unconscious for two hours before her family arrived; it seems that the daughter of a wealthy family isn't as happy as she looks on the surface.

Downstairs at the hospital.

"Young Master Yu, the Zhu Family has arrived." Situ turned to the side.

The man sitting in the back row gave a faint "mm" upon hearing this, "Let's go back."

The car slowly drove out of the hospital, and a faint smell of fish lingered in the quiet cabin.

Sheng Yu frowned and lowered the car window; the wind poured into the cabin, instantly dispersing the scent.

He fished a cigarette case and lighter out of the hidden compartment, pulled out a cigarette, and just as he brought it to his lips, he smelled that fishy odor on his fingers again, and his frown deepened.

After the doctor left, Zhu An'an said self-reproachfully, "It's all my fault. If I had known Yuanyuan was feeling unwell, I should have insisted on taking her to the hospital."

"How can this be your fault? She is a twenty-two-year-old adult; couldn't she have said something if she was unwell?" Zhu Chaoqin comforted his daughter, not walking toward Zhu Yuan at all, his eyes full of doting love for Zhu An'an.

"Dad, you can't say it like that. I am the older sister, so I should take care of her."

Feng Mingyue turned back and said, "You are the same age; there is no such thing as who should take care of whom. Don't blame yourself."

Zhu Yuan listened to them talk in silence.

Feng Mingyue was worried she was overthinking and was just about to explain, when Zhu An'an said, "I'm sorry, Yuanyuan. Mom and Dad originally wanted to come earlier, but I suddenly felt unwell and it delayed us for a while at home."

Zhu Chaoqin said dotingly, "You child are just too kind. Yuanyuan already said she is fine and will be better after a nap. You have been in poor health since you were little, and going to the Lu Family wore you out. Your sister will naturally understand, right, Yuanyuan?"

Zhu Yuan gave an 'en' sound; she couldn't get a word in, nor did she want to.

Ever since she was recognized and brought back a year ago, she had been very clear about her status in this family; her biological parents had no feelings for her, which she could understand, but seeing this scene still made her heart ache.

"I'm fine. You should go back first; I still want to sleep for a while."

She turned to her side, not wanting to speak anymore.

Zhu Chaoqin looked at the back of her head and gave Feng Mingyue a look.

"There is something your father and I have discussed, and we were just preparing to find an opportunity to tell you." Feng Mingyue tucked the quilt in for Zhu Yuan.

"Go ahead." Zhu Yuan had her back turned to them.

Feng Mingyue turned her head to look at her husband.

Zhu Chaoqin's expression was grave, "You also know the current situation of the Zhu Family. The company's capital turnover is not enough, and your mother has taken out all the money from the bottom of the chest to use. If we continue to pay for your grandfather's medical expenses, the Zhu Family probably won't be able to hold on."

"What?"

Zhu Yuan sat up from the bed, her face, which had just regained a little color, instantly turning pale.

Back then, she had been swapped by the Zhu Family's nanny and abandoned on the side of the road in a city in another province, where she was picked up by the Zhu couple and raised.

The Zhu family had always loved her dearly, treating her as their own, and named her Zhu Yuan, which meant 'to wish'.

Two years ago, her adoptive parents died in a plane crash, and her grandfather suddenly fell critically ill.

She needed to pay for her grandfather's medical treatment, but she had no money to cover the high medical expenses. At that time, Feng Mingyue proposed that she marry into the Lu Family to bring good luck.

Their reasoning was something Zhu Yuan could not refute, because Zhu An'an was in poor health and the 'good luck' marriage would harm her body, and after cooperating with the Lu Family, the Zhu Family would be able to pay for her grandfather's medical expenses.

But now they were saying the Zhu Family had no money, even though just last month they had held a very grand birthday party for Zhu An'an, which I heard cost several million.

A chill surged into her heart. Zhu Yuan looked at them in disbelief, her lips trembling: "You mean..."

Zhu Chaoqin said, "We want to stop paying for your grandfather's medical expenses."
