Chapter 108: Playing the Rogue
When Liu Jian'an, clutching a small bag of chicken blood, rushed over, Lu Cheng led them to the Broadcast Room.
First he swapped Liu Jian'an out of his police uniform, then had Jiang Mengmeng help simplify his makeup.
Jiang Mengmeng asked curiously, "What are you going to do? Is there another mission?"
Lu Cheng replied, "You're right, it's a Confidential Mission."
Jiang Mengmeng widened her eyes, "What Confidential Mission? Tell me, I've already used my Snowflake Ointment on him; I hardly ever use it on myself."
Liu Jian'an flopped like that, instantly changed his appearance, guaranteeing those two swindlers wouldn't recognize him.
Since Jiang Mengmeng contributed, Lu Cheng also had to satisfy her curiosity.
"So then, later I'll let you take part."
"Ah? I can also participate?" Jiang Mengmeng hesitated, "But I'm a female comrade and can't catch bad guys; what if she assaults me first and then kills me?"
Lu Cheng gestured for a few people to come closer, "We won't have you catch them; just cooperate. Later you'll just…"
…
After arranging several people, Lu Cheng rushed to the Dining Car; just as he reached the doorway, he heard shouting from inside.
"Who's the swindler? Who's extorting money? On what grounds is he looking at my butt!"
It was the woman's voice, followed immediately by Jiang Yuanchao's voice.
"Who told you to use the restroom without closing the door? It wasn't intentional; you can't extort two yuan from them either."
The man's voice rang out quickly, even louder than the woman's.
"What do you mean extorting two yuan? He just looked for free! Otherwise, let me see your wife's butt and I'll give you two yuan."
Jiang Yuanchao became agitated, "Hey, why are you speaking like that, comrade?"
"That's just how I speak. Do you think I want those two yuan? My wife's butt is priceless! Otherwise, I'll sue him for being a rogue."
Jiang Yuanchao frowned, "You're suing him for being a rogue? He's going to sue you for fraud. Be honest, are you cheating?"
"Who's cheating? He gave it voluntarily. If you say we're cheating, show the evidence."
Leaning against the doorframe, Lu Cheng couldn't help but laugh inwardly.
This evidence is really hard to obtain.
Or rather, there's no evidence at all.
Not closing the restroom door is just carelessness, but you saw my wife's butt—that's a fact. The man didn't demand money, otherwise we'd go to the bureau and argue.
People these days fear being associated with a rogue; if it reaches the unit, gossip damages reputation, and the worst is it harms one's job, possibly halving year‑end benefits.
Weighing it, most prefer to settle with money.
Unless they encounter someone even more unscrupulous, but such people are few, so the two swindlers' success rate is high, almost always working.
Thus, when Jiang Yuanchao was asked to produce evidence proving the two are swindlers, he truly couldn't produce any.
From his insistence that Railway staff purchase supplemental tickets, it's clear Jiang Yuanchao is a rule‑following person who lacks flexibility.
Facing the two's denial, he felt helpless, even exhausted.
But the two's behavior is abnormal; anyone with eyes sees the problem, and Jiang Yuanchao isn't foolish either.
"Others have pointed out you both, saying you occupy this restroom now and that one later; you pee so much, it's clearly extortion."
"Others point fingers? Then we're the swindlers! If I now point at you for stealing ten yuan, you become the thief."
Isn't that just being a rogue? The crux is there's no evidence, and such matters are hard to prove unless one admits it.
But how could they possibly admit it themselves.
Lu Cheng knocked on the doorframe: "Group Leader Jiang, you've earned Merit, I heard you caught the two swindlers."
Jiang Yuanchao glanced, his mood low, and said, "Don't bring it up. We caught them, but they won't admit it now."
When Lu Cheng entered, the two swindlers instantly recognized him and were startled.
Last time he took three slaps, especially the one Da Kui delivered; the force was so strong it forced him to recuperate for three days before resuming work on the train.
Now, seeing Lu Cheng again, the man retreats backward like a mouse seeing a cat.
The woman patted his arm: "Don't be scared; this time we didn't provoke the Train Police, so he has no reason to beat anyone."
The man thought that made sense; after seeing Lu Cheng, he was no longer afraid.
"If you want to catch me, produce the evidence; otherwise, just let me go obediently."
Lu Cheng noticed the two seemed confident, and said nothing.
"Group Leader Jiang, how about I give you a suggestion that could get those two convicted?"
Jiang Yuanchao's eyes lit up: "What suggestion?"
"Beat them! Beat them until they confess."
When Lu Cheng spoke, the two grew anxious: "Hey, how can you beat people? If you dare hit me again, I'll go to your superiors."
Jiang Yuanchao waved his hand, signaling the two not to argue: "Group Leader Lu, this won't work; how can you force a confession? That's torture, and I won't copy you."
Last time Sixth Group lost a point because they beat a passenger; if Jiang Yuanchao followed his advice, Group Three would also lose points, essentially falling into Lu Cheng's trap.
Seeing Jiang Yuanchao refuse and glare, Lu Cheng helplessly spread his hands.
"Look, I'm being kind; if you don't accept it there's nothing I can do, but I wonder how Group Leader Jiang will handle the two?"
Jiang Yuanchao crossed his arms and sighed, "What else can we do? We can only let them go."
He was truly unwilling; he knew clearly the two were swindlers, yet had no way to act.
But he also couldn't let them keep scamming; Jiang Yuanchao looked at the two: "I'm watching you. If anyone else reports you both for hogging the restroom, I'll arrest you."
Without evidence, Jiang Yuanchao couldn't even accuse them of extorting money.
He could only assign team members to keep strict watch over the two.
The two simultaneously nodded: "We won't occupy, we won't occupy."
"Right, right, if I have more urine, I'll hold it in."
The two of them didn't care at all; if this train got targeted, they'll just take the next one.
A train ticket is only worth a few coins, and if you swindle one person you can earn two yuan; in a day you can make dozens—it's a business with huge profit.
The two bowed and walked out, but just as they stepped out, Lu Cheng gave a signal.
Soon Niu Da Kui and Zhao Jinzhu stepped forward, each grabbing an arm and pulling the two back into the Dining Car.
"Hey, what are you doing? Didn't we agree to let them go?"
"Exactly, why are you grabbing us again? Got any evidence? You just arrest people!"
Jiang Yuanchao was also taken aback; before he could speak, Lu Cheng said, "Group Leader Jiang, the person has already been released; now consider it as me recapturing them."
Group Leader Jiang asked in confusion, "Group Leader Jiang, what do you mean?"
"Nothing special; if Group Three can't finish the interrogation, then let Sixth Group take over."
Group Leader Jiang shook his head; these two aren't thieves, and even if they searched them they'd find no tools or money, so they couldn't even try to deny it.
But now… it's a complete deadlock.
Others give the two money purely to settle things peacefully; one is willing to hit, the other willing to take it.
"Fine, you interrogate! Today I want to see what Group Leader Lu can do to pry their mouths open."
