Inside the hospital.

By now Yu Dazhang had already changed into a fresh set of clothes, and the bloodstains on his body had been cleaned off.

Out of concern for his own safety, he still insisted on coming to the hospital to have his wound treated.

Who knew whether there was poison on that woman's military spike — he simply couldn't set his mind at ease without getting it checked at the hospital.

After examining him, the doctor disinfected and treated his wound.

Then, under Yu Dazhang's shamelessly persistent demands, the doctor went through the motions of bandaging him up properly.

"Actually, there's really no need for all this trouble."

The doctor suggested:

"A wound this small just needs some disinfectant — bandaging it would actually slow the healing."

He could see this fatty wasn't the fussy type, so he hadn't expected him to be so fragile — to come all the way to the hospital for such a tiny wound.

"It's still better to wrap it up a bit."

Yu Dazhang explained:

"This is a workplace injury."

Saying so, he gave the doctor a smile and a knowing look.

Workplace injury? The doctor was dumbfounded.

Such a tiny wound — who are you trying to fool? Besides, a medical certificate can't be faked.

Under the doctor's bewildered gaze, Yu Dazhang got up and left. After asking a nurse outside, he made his way to the Zhuyuan Force.

Outside a hospital room.

Two plainclothes MSS agents stood guard at the door; the moment they saw someone approaching, they immediately grew alert.

"One of us."

Stepping closer, Yu Dazhang identified himself, then asked in a low voice:

"How is she doing?"

Before coming to the hospital he already knew Ying Xuelian's emergency treatment was over, and he had asked for her room number.

"Nothing serious." One of the MSS agents answered:

"The knife's been taken out — the anesthetic has probably already worn off by now."

Yu Dazhang understood perfectly well that a wound like this didn't need general anesthesia in the first place.

It looked like a stab wound, but as long as no internal organs were hit, it was just a flesh wound.

Besides, the treatment had been timely, and there'd been no major bleeding, so he wasn't really worried.

"I'm going in to see her."

Saying so, he pushed open the hospital room door and stepped inside.

The room held only one hospital bed; Ying Xuelian lay quietly on it, her eyes fixed unblinkingly on the ceiling — no telling what she was thinking.

Her face was pale as paper, her lips had lost all color, and the whole person looked extremely frail.

In the corner of the room, Ye Lin sat on a chair; only after clearly seeing the newcomer was Yu Dazhang did she finally lower the gun in her hand.

"Pretty alert of you."

Yu Dazhang looked at Ye Lin and teased:

"If I'd come in any faster just now, I'd already be shot, wouldn't I."

He knew Ye Lin had to be inside the room, so he deliberately slowed his steps — just to give her time to react.

"What are you doing here?"

Ye Lin didn't bother with his teasing, and instead asked back:

"Did the team leader send you?"

As she spoke, her gaze lingered on the freshly bandaged wrist of Yu Dazhang.

"I came to see her."

Yu Dazhang didn't hide anything and stated his purpose directly:

"She took that stab to save me."

Without Ying Xuelian, he would probably have already departed this world by now.

If that knife had really plunged into his belly, the searing pain would have briefly incapacitated him, and he wouldn't have had the strength left to wrestle the blade away.

Given the opponent's combat experience, they would surely have seized the chance to inflict sustained damage on him.

By then, he would have had absolutely no chance of surviving.

Ye Lin rose silently; only as she passed Yu Dazhang did she finally speak up to ask:

"Your hand's okay?"

Yu Dazhang felt a warm surge inside, and gave her a smile:

"Just a flesh wound."

Hearing his answer, the slight frown on Ye Lin's brow gradually eased.

After she walked out of the hospital room, Yu Dazhang finally came back to himself.
