Chapter 11: Crown's Sincerity?

~7 min read 1,379 words

"I have wronged you; this should not have happened."

Wei Er guided Lu Chen into the Guibingshi, his face solemn, and bowed slightly.

He then sat on the sofa, slowly toasted his Cigar, and after a moment of silence, spoke.

"We at Crown will not let an old friend suffer a loss. We have prepared 'Yearning for the Fields,' also a work by Wei Er Na, as an apology for you, and also..."

Wei Er took a puff of his Cigar, crossed his legs, and looked at Lu Chen.

"As a personal apology, 1 million pounds. These things are enough to compensate for your losses. Of course, if you have any thoughts, you can bring them up, and we can discuss them together."

Lu Chen silently toasted his Cigar, glanced at Wei Er from the corner of his eye, and did not speak immediately.

This old guy is using such high-value items to compensate; it seems the secret of "Injury Increase 37.5" and the Luosha is not shallow!

I cannot compromise easily; at least I must make him spit something out!

"Is this your Crown's way of treating guests?"

Lu Chen lit his Cigar, took a deep drag, then stood up and slammed his hands on the table!

His eyes stared fixedly at Wei Er!

Even the crystal ashtray and red wine glass on the table trembled incessantly, nearly falling off the table.

"What I want is to leave with the answer!"

"This puts Crown in a very difficult position. As your most loyal partner, I will give you a small piece of advice."

Wei Er smoked silently, his brows furrowed, his crossed legs shaking incessantly.

After a long while, he spoke softly.

"Do not pursue the matter of that woman. You haven't suffered any loss, have you? Crown will add another sum of compensation for you, also 1 million pounds."

"Then bring your contract and the answer."

Lu Chen leaned back on the sofa, the sharpness in his eyes undiminished, took a deep drag of his Cigar, and then fell silent.

It seems it's true!

My attitude needs to be even tougher; who knows if this old guy Wei Er...

"That is your right. Shall we handle the next item now?"

Wei Er was silent for a moment, looked deeply at Lu Chen, put down his Cigar, picked up his wine glass, and took a sip.

He stood up and took a contract from the desk.

He returned and placed it in front of Lu Chen.

"This is your auction item, Rainbow. 65 million pounds. We at Crown have already converted it all into US dollars for you, and at the same time, waived all fees. As long as you sign, you can take it away now."

"Director Wei Er, two matters, not on the same level."

Lu Chen took a puff of his Cigar and did not look at the contract, but instead stared at Wei Er, who had sat back on the sofa and picked up his Cigar again.

"Fine, we can gift you the land for the Textile Factory free of charge. As for the matter of that woman, you can investigate it privately; we at Crown will not hinder you, nor will we intervene."

Wei Er took a deep drag of his Cigar, wanting to cough, but forced himself to hold it back. After a while, he spoke.

He even put down the crossed legs he had just raised.

A flash of surprise crossed his eyes as he stared fixedly at Lu Chen.

"The previous agreement remains valid."

After a long while, Wei Er said in a hoarse voice.

"A reminder: what you hear and see is not necessarily the truth."

"The contract, the painting."

Lu Chen looked at the Auction Contract in detail, and after confirming there were no issues, he looked up at Wei Er.

He spat out two words in a cold tone.

"This is what you deserve, but you should have also received a letter from that woman, right?"

Wei Er was not at all surprised by Lu Chen's attitude, and a smile returned to his face.

He picked up the items prepared in advance from the table and placed them on the coffee table.

Only then did he whisper a question in Lu Chen's ear.

Lu Chen did not reply, but looked at Wei Er in surprise.

Regarding Wei Er's words, he had actually anticipated them in his heart long ago.

But to bring it up at this moment, Wei Er is simply not acting like a human!

It is truly too wicked!

It made the joy of victory he had just felt instantly vanish!

He is simply... a troublemaker!

Lu Chen subconsciously glanced at the envelope in his portable space and immediately felt it was extremely tricky!

It was just like a ticking time bomb!

It made him not want to open it for a moment, nor did he want to think about this matter.

Wei Er organized all the contracts and checks, solemnly placed them into a file bag, sealed it heavily with wax, and then handed it to Lu Chen.

"Mr. Lu, I wish you good luck."

Wei Er had a gentle smile on his face and handed it to Lu Chen with both hands.

"I hope this small interlude will not affect our future cooperation."

Lu Chen took a deep breath, picked up the file bag, and walked straight out of the Guibingshi.

As for the painting, Crown would have it delivered to him.

Lu Chen did not return to his room immediately, but instead went to the restaurant.

There was still a little tag-along waiting for him there.

"Boss! Over here!"

Li Xuanhua sat stiffly in the Western restaurant filled with guests, even though there was steak and red wine on the table.

Yet everything looked so cautious, and like a clumsy imitation.

Although Li Xuanhua was growing quickly, he was still a bit green right now.

"Relax, if you're this nervous, anyone can tell at a glance that you're a novice."

Lu Chen smiled and patted Li Xuanhua on the shoulder, letting him sit down.

Only then did he continue, "Even if you are a novice, even if you don't understand those etiquettes, none of that matters."

Lu Chen sat back down opposite him and then said something to the waiter.

"Medium-rare steak, and bring me a pair of chopsticks while you're at it."

His expression was natural, without a hint of affectation.

Only then did he turn his head to look at Li Xuanhua.

"Did you learn?"

"Uh... waiter, bring me... a pair of... chopsticks too."

Li Xuanhua dropped the knife and fork in his hands and spoke to the waiter stumblingly.

This caused the surrounding guests to let out knowing smiles.

The looks they gave Lu Chen were full of strangeness... and admiration.

Li Xuanhua shifted uneasily, not daring to look around much, just staring at his well-done steak that had been cut into a mess.

"Don't worry about other people's gazes; you are my person. Do you still remember the first sentence I taught you?"

Lu Chen smiled, scanned the surrounding guests, and nodded in greeting with a smile.

"Just be yourself. You can learn to smoke a Cigar and taste red wine; these are basic social etiquettes, but being yourself is the best way to win others' respect."

"If you don't know how, then you don't know how; just like me, I don't know how to dance either."

A hint of affirmation appeared in the eyes of the surrounding guests!

Which of the guests invited by Crown wasn't someone who started by being themselves and doing one small thing well?

Even the second-generation heirs present glanced sideways at Lu Chen, and quite a few successful people took the initiative to offer their Business Card.

This also made Lu Chen feel a little annoyed; he had just said a couple of things off the cuff...

Li Xuanhua looked at those people with some confusion; although he was eating steak with chopsticks, it still looked really quite awkward.

"Once you're full, come back to the room with me; there are some things I still need to instruct you on."

Lu Chen wiped his mouth and nodded slightly to the surrounding guests.
