Chapter 120: Disturbances at the Nitan
"The matter you mentioned is indeed worth discussing, but you only need to submit the application normally. Before construction begins, we will modify the blueprints; the underground construction portion will be entirely handled by us."
Laites looked at Lu Chen with a smile, then spoke softly.
"We will thicken and enlarge the underground pillars. As you have likely noticed, the walls in the underground structure are particularly thick; that was designed specifically to hide the massive pillars."
Lu Chen nodded slightly, considering the plan proposed by Laites to be accepted.
"Then, shall we discuss the second item on the agenda?"
"According to the information you provided, headquarters will dispatch three pharmacology experts to Xianggang to be stationed there permanently."
Laites nodded slightly, took a puff of his Cigar, changed his posture, and then continued to speak.
"These three experts are exceptionally outstanding in pharmacology, research, and general integration respectively. If you do not have particularly good candidates in mind, you can trust them."
"We are not demanding the leading role in the research; it is just that you do not seem to have a mature pharmaceutical department at the moment. We guarantee that all research results will be fully disclosed to you, and the previous agreement with you remains in effect; we will not produce it ourselves."
Laites added another sentence.
"The principle of our Neutral Tavern is to safeguard all interests of our clients, of course, within the bounds of our rules."
"I accept your good intentions. I indeed do not have a pharmaceutical research team right now. Your people can conduct research based on my data, and we will share the results."
Lu Chen nodded slightly; Lu Chen had long expected Laites's investigation.
However, the conditions they offered were incredibly generous.
"Do you have any requirements?"
"We need sole authorization for your medicine, only for small-scale production in the laboratory to meet the needs of our organization's high-level members. We will not produce it ourselves for external sale; it is only for internal use within the organization, excluding honorary councilors. If they wish to purchase it, we will stock it from you and sell it to them."
Laites had a smile on his face as he spoke easily.
"You can always trust the Neutral Tavern."
"Pleasure doing business with you; I look forward to seeing you next time."
Lu Chen stood up and shook hands with Laites.
He personally saw him out of the Zhuangyuan.
Only then did he speak softly to Chen Mo.
"How were they?"
"Very professional, with almost no unnecessary movements. After finishing the inspection, they took the initiative to let us supervise and inspect them; it was transparent to an unbelievable degree."
Chen Mo pondered for a moment before speaking softly.
"If we want this equipment, they are willing to provide it to us."
"Alright, let's go. Let's head over to the Nitan to take a look; I don't know how the situation is over at the Tianran Gang."
Lu Chen nodded slightly and walked directly toward the third floor.
"You should change your clothes too; don't be too conspicuous."
After a while, Lu Chen changed into a jacket, and he looked much younger.
He and Chen Mo arrived at the Nitan and the vicinity of the port again in a low-profile manner.
The atmosphere this time was significantly more somber than last time. Although the demolition had reached the opposite side of the street from before, those thugs seemed to be angry but dared not speak out.
They just silently stared at every stranger.
Chen Mo was a bit nervous, but Lu Chen didn't feel much of anything.
After all, with Zhao Lao gone, the shifts in power between factions were likely not small, and it was even normal for some gangs to defect directly to other gangs.
However, it was good that there hadn't been any large-scale, bloody conflicts.
"Boss, something seems wrong; it looks a bit dangerous over there."
Chen Mo nudged Lu Chen lightly and gestured toward the small alley in the distance.
Lu Chen looked in the direction Chen Mo indicated.
A hint of a murderous aura seemed to be coming from the small alley, giving Lu Chen a slightly bad feeling.
"Let's go."
Lu Chen frowned, looked back at the direction they had come from, steadied himself, and walked quickly toward the port.
As he passed the entrance of the alley, Lu Chen looked over subconsciously.
His pupils constricted, and he followed Chen Mo, jogging all the way to the pier.
Only then did Lu Chen catch his breath.
Lu Chen could never forget that flash of the fat floral shirt!
"Chen Mo, contact our people and have them drive over to pick us up."
Lu Chen took a deep breath, and after a few seconds, he took out a 555 cigarette and handed one to Chen Mo as well.
Too busy to continue the inspection, he said after taking several puffs.
"Also, tell our people at the Nitan to be careful. Make sure they don't get dragged into this. If it doesn't work, stop work for a few days; we'll come back after they've finished dealing with their business."
Chen Mo nodded slightly, glanced at the surroundings—it was full of workers—and immediately felt relieved. He grabbed a staff member in a suit at random and whispered a few words.
The young man nodded slightly, and Chen Mo walked over and whispered a sentence.
"Boss, let's go."
Lu Chen followed the young man in the suit and got into a beat-up car; he didn't even know what brand it was.
It was certainly not as comfortable as his own car, and after driving on a dirt road for a while, Lu Chen felt like his stomach was going to be jolted out.
"Manager Chen, your car is over there. This is a lane for cargo vehicles; only people from our company can occasionally drive here. I'll head off work now."
The young man glanced at Chen Mo, then at Lu Chen, before speaking softly.
Chen Mo reached out and pressed on Lu Chen, placing a handgun into his hand before speaking softly.
"Mr. Lu, please wait a moment. Xiao Wang, you wait here for a bit; I'll go drive the car over. Mr. Lu's identity is special, so keep an eye on things. If it doesn't work out, just drive to the police station."
Chen Mo spoke softly to the young man before getting out of the car.
Lu Chen nodded slightly, and without waiting for the young man to agree, Chen Mo opened the door and got out of the car.
Only then did Lu Chen speak softly.
"Lock the car doors. Your name is Xiao Wang, right? You're quite good."
"Uh... Mr. Lu, I'm a bit scared."
Xiao Wang gripped the steering wheel nervously, his voice even trembling as he spoke.
"Last time, it was thanks to President Zhao's timely notification that we managed to pull out of Nitan and even rested for several days. Can't those gangs just settle down..."
"Who knows? I only asked President Chen to accompany me here to check on the construction in Nitan, and as a result..."
Lu Chen shrugged, tossed a pack of 555s to Xiao Wang, and then spoke softly.
"Smoke a couple, don't be nervous, and trust your President Chen's judgment."
Xiao Wang grabbed the 555s from his lap, but he tried to open them several times without success.
Lu Chen then reached out to hand him a 555 and lit one for himself as well.
Watching the seemingly increasing number of heads in the surrounding alleyways, Lu Chen felt that things were really not looking good!
But he still sat in the car, smoking silently, waiting for Chen Mo.
Although he could let Xiao Wang leave now, it would be hard to say what might happen to Chen Mo.
"Beep beep."
As Chen Mo's car drew closer, Lu Chen's tightly coiled nerves finally relaxed.
The vehicle pulled up beside Xiao Wang's car.
