Chapter 133: Professor Li's Scheme

~7 min read 1,325 words

After answering some rather tricky questions, Professor Li finally brought this three-and-a-half-hour lecture to a true end.

As the crowd dispersed, Lu Chen and Professor Li returned to the backstage area.

But Professor Li did not leave, so Lu Chen had no choice but to have the butler bring a cup of hot water and keep him company in a calm and steady manner.

Before long, a group of old men arrived backstage.

"Your closed-door disciple gave quite a good lecture."

A slightly chubby, balding old man walked over and patted Lu Chen on the shoulder.

He looked at Professor Li with a face full of smiles before speaking softly.

"Lao Li, isn't Little Lu's status at our school still that of a student? How about this: I'll go finalize the teaching assistant position in a moment; how about he comes to the school to teach one class every week?"

"Thank you for your support, Dean Liu. Little Lu is usually quite busy; if it weren't for my poor health, I wouldn't have dragged him over to lecture on my behalf today."

Professor Li nodded with a smile and bowed slightly.

"Lao Li, that's not right of you. The talents you've taught—which one of them isn't being fought over by every company and major foreign firm? Since you've already declared him a teaching assistant, he must stay at our school."

Dean Liu looked Lu Chen over with a smile.

"How about this: since he's busy, let's make it once every two weeks. In any case, we have plenty of professors in our college; we can just arrange the schedule, and it will pass."

"How about this, Little Lu: donate a building to the school, Dean Liu, what do you think?"

Professor Li squinted his eyes and spoke softly.

"You're already building things over there anyway, so just help the school build a landmark while you're at it."

Lu Chen nodded slightly and spoke softly.

"Dean Liu, please tell me what types of buildings our school is still lacking, and I will arrange for someone to coordinate with you when I return."

"A laboratory, specifically top-tier medical laboratory equipment. This is a significant sum of money, Little Lu; are you sure you can get it for our school?"

Dean Liu glanced at Professor Li, and after several seconds, he looked at Lu Chen with some hesitation and asked softly.

"Lao Liu, that's not right of you. How about this: you make a list of what equipment is needed. Little Lu can handle it here, and even if he can't, don't I still have a hand in it?"

Professor Li looked at Dean Liu deeply before speaking softly.

"Supporting the development of our school is a duty this old man cannot shirk."

"You're straightforward, Lao Li, so I'll be straightforward too."

Dean Liu looked at Professor Li with some surprise.

"Little Lu's teaching assistant position would usually take three years to rise to professor; right now, there isn't enough time and it's hard for me to manage, so how about Guest Professor? Three public lectures per semester, how does that sound?"

Seeing Professor Li nod slightly, Lu Chen agreed.

Dean Liu finally let out a sigh of relief and spoke in a relaxed manner.

"Lao Li, have you chosen him as the successor to your title? Or..."

As soon as Dean Liu's words were out, the circle of old men around them, who had been whispering, all looked at Dean Liu in unison, and some even looked at Professor Li in disbelief.

Professor Li silently lit a cigarette, and after a long while, he spoke softly.

"Little Lu will earn his own title; my title cannot be inherited."

The old men finally breathed a sigh of relief, and after chatting for a while longer, Professor Li introduced each of the old men to Lu Chen.

Only then did they return to the car and head toward the Zhuangyuan.

Professor Li spoke softly with a hint of exhaustion.

"Go to the Neutral Tavern."

It wasn't until Professor Li opened a conference room that he asked softly.

"Do you know why I opened this conference room?"

"Do you have some confidential matter to entrust to me?"

Lu Chen sat on the sofa properly, a hint of curiosity in his eyes.

"I have a letter of recommendation stored here. I will give it to you in a moment. You go to Daiying, find Marquess Gordon, and donate one hundred million; you will be able to obtain a lordship."

After a moment, Professor Li continued.

"There is also the matter of the school's medical laboratory. You can talk to Laites directly here. One set of equipment or two sets—it's all the same to them. You can ask for three sets of equipment; setting up an independent laboratory for yourself is also very important."

"Alright, I understand."

Lu Chen handed the preheated Cigar to Professor Li before preheating one for himself.

Before long, Laites knocked on the door, and after receiving authorization from Professor Li, he walked in.

"Lord Li, is there something you need?"

Laites shook hands with Professor Li and Lu Chen, then sat on the sofa to the side and asked softly.

"Mr. Lu, we meet again."

"Mr. Laites, I would like to retrieve the item under 7632X that I have stored in your tavern."

Professor Li softly recited a string of numbers, paused, and then continued.

"I heard that Little Lu has entered into a partnership with you. We want three sets of equipment. At the same time, there will be an equipment list coming in a while; please check it, and if anything is missing, please fill it in."

"Lord Li, you are an Honorary Councilor and have already accumulated three auction-lock quotas at the tavern. Are you sure you want to use these conditions to exchange for the two sets of equipment you mentioned, as well as the subsequent supplementary equipment?"

Laites took out a small notebook, and after a while, he looked up at Professor Li.

"Retrieving the item requires one Silver Coin."

Lu Chen was stunned for a moment, looked at Professor Li deeply, and then asked softly.

"What if I pay with Silver Coins?"

"You would need more than 25."

Laites glanced at Lu Chen, wrote and drew in his notebook, and after a while, spoke softly.

"According to your previous records, the equipment needed is quite precious; 25 coins for two sets of equipment is not expensive."

"Let's just use the auction to lock in the quota; I'm not interested in those things."

Professor Li lightly nudged Lu Chen and nodded toward Laites.

"For me, locking in a quota through an auction is just something that accumulates once every 10 years."

"For this transfer of ownership, 1 Silver Coin."

Laites continued, adding a sentence.

Professor Li nodded slightly and took out 2 Silver Coins.

"For this certificate, do you need our Neutral Tavern to handle the operation, or will you operate it yourself? The fee is the same, 10 Silver Coins."

Laites asked in a soft voice.

"Let the Neutral Tavern do it. 10 Silver Coins, you pay for it yourself, Little Lu."

Professor Li said, sounding somewhat exhausted.

Lu Chen nodded slightly, then spoke softly.

"Mr. Laites, I need to exchange for Silver Coins, but, having just exchanged them, I would hand them directly to your tavern..."

Lu Chen did not finish his sentence, instead giving Laites a deep look.

"Can the transaction be completed directly?"

Lu Chen took out his checkbook, wrote down one hundred million pounds, and pushed it gently in front of Laites.

"Of course, however, the procedures still need to be followed. Please come with me."

Laites nodded slightly, stood up, and reached out his hand.

He looked at Professor Li, then spoke.

"Lord Li, please wait a moment. Mr. Lu, you will also need to prepare a photograph; of course, you can have it taken here."
