Chapter 138: Small Meeting

~7 min read 1,305 words

"It's still early; Professor Li won't retire until next year."

Lu Chen gave Luosha a deep look, and only after a good while did he speak softly.

Not until they reached the top floor and the door to the conference room did the group tidy up their suits before walking into the venue.

Luosha said with some dissatisfaction.

"You men are such a hassle."

"You girls are the ones who are a hassle before going out."

Director Shi's somewhat aged voice carried a hint of teasing.

"If my concubines knew that Miss Luosha actually disliked men so much, they would have a good long talk with you."

The corners of Lu Chen's mouth lifted slightly, but he didn't speak, following them into the venue.

The venue was bright, with rows of tables and chairs neatly arranged all around.

Each seat was marked with a name.

Lu Chen found his seat, frowned, but didn't say anything, instead sitting down comfortably.

Soon, various other candidates arrived and took their seats one after another.

However, no one communicated with each other; they just smoked a cigarette or sipped some coffee.

Lu Chen glanced at his watch: 3:59.

The entire venue was already packed, and even where there was an occasional empty seat, someone seemed to be heading toward it.

Logically speaking, Lu Chen shouldn't have been in the front row, yet he had been arranged there.

This did not conform to common sense.

Since he was here, he would make the best of it; Luosha sat directly opposite Lu Chen, looked at him with a smile, sipped her coffee, and raised her cup slightly.

Lu Chen raised an eyebrow and raised his cup slightly in return, but did not drink.

Instead, he leaned back in his chair and lit a 555 for himself.

"Everyone present here is an elite from every industry in Xianggang; welcome to the triennial closed-door yacht conference."

Wei Er stood in the center of the venue and spoke softly.

"The agenda for this conference has already been distributed to your tables; it is divided into three important sessions: the first is the financial industry proposal, the second is the industrial proposal, and the third is the legal proposal."

Wei Er paused slightly before continuing to speak softly.

"The financial agenda will begin tomorrow morning; a dinner has been prepared for everyone tonight, so please enjoy yourselves."

Wei Er bowed slightly, and the people around him began to leave; seeing that Luosha and the others didn't move, Lu Chen stayed calmly in his seat and smoked.

Not until only the directors of Crown remained in the venue did Wei Er speak.

"Since everyone has stayed, let's hold a small meeting."

Wei Er looked around before being the first to walk toward a small door on the other side.

The group filed in one by one, and Lu Chen followed them inside.

The room was not as large as the main venue, but the decor was actually much the same.

It was just that the chairs had been replaced with more comfortable sofas.

After Lu Chen sat down, Wei Er handed everyone a Cigar.

Luosha declined, but lit a lady's cigarette for herself.

The rest of the people silently preheated their Cigars.

"Everyone, for this financial conference, besides the various coordination efforts, the most important topic is still the matter of financial innovation."

Wei Er preheated his Cigar and spoke softly.

"The previous work has already been communicated to you all in advance, and I hope you will support me in this conference."

"Director Wei Er, we only received one operating fee last time; it's a bit difficult to support you on this topic."

The foreign director from the last board meeting raised his eyelids while speaking in not-very-standard Chinese.

Then he leaned back, lit his Cigar, and took a puff.

"If you want our support, Director Wei Er, look..."

The foreign director looked around at the people nearby, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly.

"A new operating fee was already prepared when we boarded the ship."

A smile appeared on Wei Er's face as he spoke softly.

"Most of this capital has already been invested, but every director present here has an operating fee of 100 million, and this fee will be counted toward the commission."

"I believe you all know how thorny this money is; I need to do my best to pass this conference so that you can all obtain more benefits."

Wei Er took a puff of his Cigar, not looking at the people in the room, but staring at the Cigar.

"And most importantly, I have already communicated with all the banks in Xianggang; as long as this conference passes, all the banks will simultaneously list this securities product."

"Director Wei Er, I actually still have that same question: what if it crashes?"

Lu Chen glanced at Professor Li and Luosha.

Seeing Luosha nod slightly, he turned his head to look at Wei Er.

"You also know that if we use Rainbow as the floor, it will basically be a total loss. The 6.5 billion investment has now all entered the entities in the Nitan; if it crashes, you are the only one who can solve this money issue now, none of us can."

"Haven't we already discussed this issue? The responsibility this time will be borne by the people below; as for this project, our bank is merely distributing it."

Wei Er smiled before speaking softly.

Then he gave Lu Chen a deep look.

"Director Lu, do you have any other questions?"

Lu Chen shook his head slightly and did not speak again.

"Then, directors, if there are no other questions, you may take the United Neutral Bank checks now."

A trace of a smile appeared on Wei Er's face, and then he looked at Lu Chen again.

"Chairman Lu, I personally will add an investment of 1 billion pounds to the Nitan construction project; this money can be treated as an interest-free loan, or converted into corresponding shares, either way is fine."

"Let's go with a loan; have them draw up a contract in a moment."

The corners of Lu Chen's mouth lifted slightly as he spoke in a soft voice.

Then he glanced at Chairman Shi and the others, and only after seeing that they had no expression did he finally let out a sigh of relief.

As for the foreign directors, Lu Chen couldn't be bothered to pay them any mind at all.

Wei Er nodded slightly, quickly whispering to each director while handing them their operating expenses.

After a brief chat, the directors all left the small conference room directly.

Until only Lu Chen and Wei Er remained.

"Chairman Lu, you didn't handle this matter very honorably."

Wei Er took a puff of his Cigar, sat down beside Lu Chen, and spoke in a soft voice.

"Director Wei Er, it's not that I want to say anything, but you saw it yourself."

Lu Chen held his Cigar, spread his hands, and sighed softly.

"I had no choice."

"For the 1 billion in interest-free loans, you use an offshore company to borrow it, and I want 500 million of those funds."

After Wei Er rolled his eyes at Lu Chen, he spoke in a soft voice.

"This money will be counted as part of the operating expenses."

"I have no problem with that, as long as the funds arrive in the account."

Lu Chen took a deep look at Wei Er, frowned, and after a while, he nodded slightly.

"However, by doing it this way, aren't you afraid..."

"Most of this money is with you; I am just making reasonable use of the 20% operating fee from the total funds."

Seeing a trace of displeasure appear on Lu Chen's face, Wei Er offered a soft explanation.
