Chapter 36: A Chance Encounter with Luosha
Early the next morning, Steward Wang had already prepared the car; at this time, only a Rolls-Royce and a Buick remained in the parking lot, unmoved.
This one was specifically equipped by Lu Chen for Steward Wang.
Steward Wang soon delivered Lu Chen to Huangguan Yinhang.
Lu Chen did not let Steward Wang get out of the car, but pushed the door open himself.
As soon as he stepped out, Lu Chen felt that dry heat in the air!
The bustling crowd was hurrying toward the harbor with purpose.
Lu Chen took a deep breath and looked at the industrial aesthetic architecture of Huangguan Yinhang, a hint of profundity in his eyes.
He straightened his suit and stepped inside.
"Chairman Lu, you've arrived."
As soon as Wang Jingli saw Lu Chen walk in, he trotted over to greet him.
"The money has all been prepared for you; you can withdraw it at any time, but..."
Wang Jingli glanced around, leaned in close to Lu Chen's ear, and spoke in a low voice.
"Director Wei Er is waiting for you in the office; it's likely still about the diamonds, you..."
Wang Jingli caught sight of something out of the corner of his eye, immediately put some distance between himself and Lu Chen, and carefully led the way ahead.
Lu Chen looked in the direction Wang Jingli was avoiding, and his pupils constricted.
He took a deep breath and walked straight over.
"Hello, Miss Luosha."
"It's you."
Luosha paused slightly, turned to look at Lu Chen, and a charming smile appeared on her face.
A crisp voice rang out in Lu Chen's ear.
Wang Jingli, in his peripheral vision, lowered his head even further.
"Mr. Lu—no, Chairman Lu, it just so happens I have some business with Wei Er, shall we go together?"
"Fine."
Lu Chen nodded slightly, falling half a step behind Luosha, a flash of profundity in his eyes.
His heart sank halfway...
"Welcome, you two, this is..."
Wei Er stood up to greet them, his gaze darting back and forth between Luosha and Lu Chen.
The corners of his mouth curled up slightly, and he reached out to make a gesture of invitation.
After Lu Chen and Luosha walked into the office, he closed the door himself and whispered something to Wang Jingli.
Only then did he turn back and walk to the bar to pour two cups of coffee.
"The two of you coming over together is..."
Wei Er hesitated again, but his gaze remained on Luosha, not looking at Lu Chen.
Lu Chen silently lit a Cigar and watched the two of them out of the corner of his eye.
Luosha crossed her legs, her perfect figure sinking entirely into the sofa; she twitched her delicate nose and frowned.
"Director Wei Er, I was just passing by today and happened to run into Chairman Lu."
The crisp voice rang out in the office, like a pebble dropped into a lake, rippling outward in circles.
"Your arrival at Huangguan is a major event for Huangguan, so Chairman Lu, is there anything I can do for you?"
Wei Er still wore a smile on his face as he turned to look at Lu Chen, who was sitting to the side.
He picked up the coffee on the table and took a sip, not pulling out a Cigar as he usually did.
Instead, he pulled his hand back, appearing very formal.
"I am, of course, here to withdraw money; I already made an appointment with Wang Jingli yesterday."
Lu Chen took a puff of his Cigar and glanced at Wei Er, then saw that Luosha's face seemed to carry a hint of displeasure, and suddenly felt a bit numb!
He shot Wei Er a look and was just about to put out the Cigar.
"If Chairman Lu likes to smoke, then smoke; don't mind me."
The crisp voice came again, carrying a hint of a smile.
Luosha took out a lady's cigarette and lit it, and only then did Wei Er laugh sheepishly and reach for the cigar box to preheat one.
The office fell into silence once again.
After a while, the wooden door was knocked, and Wang Jingli brought in three suitcases, set them down, bowed, exited the room, and tightly closed the wooden door again.
"Chairman Lu, please don't mind the unpleasantness from last time; these three million Hong Kong dollars are my personal apology."
Wei Er smiled, took a puff of his Cigar, crossed his legs, and looked completely relaxed.
Yes, the three people in the office were now in similar postures.
But Lu Chen felt the atmosphere in the office was even more tense than when they started.
Luosha's delicate face still wore a smile, but a flash of curiosity crossed her eyes?
Lu Chen really couldn't distinguish the meaning in her eyes.
"The matter from last time is in the past, Director Wei Er; everyone has difficult times, don't they?"
Lu Chen took a puff of his Cigar and slowly exhaled the smoke, as if wanting to block their prying eyes.
"Thank you; it was indeed our fault at Huangguan last time. Now there happens to be a difficult matter I'd like Chairman Lu to help with, what do you think?"
The smile on Wei Er's face deepened; after taking a puff of his Cigar, although he was speaking to Lu Chen, his eyes darted toward Luosha.
"That depends on what exactly the matter is, Director Wei Er."
Lu Chen smiled and glanced at Luosha out of the corner of his eye; she seemed to have no interest in Wei Er's words.
This made Lu Chen feel much more at ease; he placed his Cigar on the ashtray and took a sip of coffee.
"If it's about the previous matter, it was actually cleared up last time; I, Lu, can't just conjure up a Rainbow, can I?"
Wei Er glanced at Luosha again, and after confirming she had no intention of speaking, he took a puff of his Cigar, a flash of hesitation appearing in his eyes.
"Director Lu, you are also a shareholder of Crown; can you not even provide the crushed diamonds from the first time?"
Wei Er took a deep drag of his Cigar, forcibly suppressing a cough, his face turning somewhat flushed, and only after a while did he continue.
"It doesn't need to be many, about a dozen or so will do; you wouldn't fail to satisfy such a small request, would you?"
Wei Er uncrossed his legs, leaned his body slightly forward, and stared fixedly at Lu Chen.
He was like a lion ready to pounce and tear into Lu Chen at any moment.
"Sorry, I really don't have any; the diamonds I brought to Xianggang this time have all been sold."
Lu Chen took a puff of his Cigar, his slightly swinging leg came to an abrupt stop, and only after slowly exhaling the smoke did he start swinging it again.
His gaze was also fixed on Wei Er, but his peripheral vision was constantly monitoring Luosha's movements.
The office fell into a deathly silence; the standoff between the two men continued, with only Luosha still smoking her lady's cigarette in a leisurely manner.
After quite a while, Luosha finally let out a crisp voice.
"Since Director Lu doesn't have any, then Director Wei Er, there is no need to force the issue."
Her words made the office feel as if it had returned to spring, and the air seemed to start flowing again.
"Thank you for speaking up for me, Miss Luosha; I, Lu, truly have no more Rainbows."
Lu Chen breathed a sigh of relief, shifted his body, and a hint of a smile appeared on his face.
"Director Wei Er, if there is nothing else, I will be leaving first; I've been quite busy lately."
Lu Chen shrugged his shoulders, and his whole person seemed to relax quite a bit.
Meanwhile, a look of gravity appeared on Wei Er's face, and he even looked at Luosha with a puzzled expression.
Just as Lu Chen was preparing to stand up, Luosha continued to speak.
"I heard that besides selling one Rainbow at the auction, Director Lu also seems to have sold two higher-grade Rainbows, right?"
