Chapter 42: Meeting

~7 min read 1,359 words

In the early morning, Lu Chen rubbed his slightly bloodshot eyes, took a shower, and changed back into a suit.

He glanced at the somewhat haggard Butler Wang and spoke softly.

"Let's go."

His tone carried a trace of weariness and determination.

Lu Chen did not have Butler Wang drive; instead, he found a servant who knew how to drive, not even alerting Liu Xiaofeng.

Having been exhausted all last night, Lu Chen did not want Liu Xiaofeng to remain tense.

People, especially when nervous, might do something irrational, particularly after such a major event occurred last night.

If they kept their nerves strained any further, Lu Chen was truly afraid these few lads who had just entered the world would snap. This book is first published on Tiantiankan Novels -> 𝔱𝔱𝔨. 𝔱𝔴, providing you with an error-free and non-disordered reading experience.

He took one last look at the Zhuangyuan.

"Tell me about what you investigated last night; Shen Wanyu's report didn't mention your investigation."

Lu Chen had Butler Wang sit opposite him in the back seat, and after having the servant raise the partition, he closed his eyes, leaned back against the seat, crossed his legs, and spoke softly.

His voice still carried a hint of hoarseness.

"Last night, I contacted Old Hou, Miss Luosha's butler in Xianggang, and spent over a million pounds to get a little information."

Butler Wang's voice carried a hint of weariness, but more so hoarseness, along with an imperceptible tremor.

"Miss Luosha only returned to Xianggang from out of town last night; as for where she went, it's unclear, but her mood didn't seem very good."

The hand Lu Chen had been lightly tapping against the leather seat suddenly stopped, and after a few seconds, he opened his eyes.

His gaze swept sharply over Butler Wang before looking straight out the car window.

His eyes held a trace of emptiness, showing no concern whatsoever for the bustling scene on the street.

"The gifts prepared for Old Sun, they're ready, right?"

"They were ready last night: two bottles of wine you set aside, tea leaves brought in from out of town, and a box of Cigar, worth about 200,000 pounds."

Butler Wang was stunned for a moment, his tone slowly returning to calm; he leaned forward slightly, his hand subconsciously resting in front of his stomach.

He did not relax just because he was sitting in the car.

Lu Chen withdrew his gaze from the car window, closed his eyes again, reached into his suit jacket pocket, took out a brocade box from his portable space, and placed it on the seat.

He tapped it twice with his fingers and pushed it to the seat beside him.

"Add this to the gift list; this is a gift for Miss Luosha, don't mix them up."

Lu Chen did not wait for Butler Wang's response.

"There's still plenty of time before visiting Old Sun, have the servant drive slowly, let's rest for a while."

At 9 o'clock, the Rolls-Royce stopped on time at the entrance of Sun Manor.

Butler Zhao was already standing at the manor entrance, still in a proper suit, plus white gloves.

"Butler Zhao, we meet again."

Lu Chen nodded slightly and gave Butler Wang a look.

Butler Wang took a kraft paper envelope from his pocket and quietly slipped it into Butler Zhao's hand.

He whispered a sentence in Butler Zhao's ear.

"Mr. Lu, the master is waiting for you in the parlor."

Butler Zhao did not refuse Butler Wang's envelope but carefully tucked it away, only then whispering a sentence as he passed by Lu Chen.

"It seems Xianggang wasn't very peaceful last night; there was gunfire, and I don't know which bold soul went to provoke Miss Luosha."

Lu Chen paused slightly, a relaxed expression appearing on his face, and he nodded slightly, though a trace of gravity flashed in his eyes.

He simply tapped his thigh lightly with his fingers, appearing very natural.

He followed behind Butler Zhao toward the parlor.

"You're here? Sit yourself down."

Old Sun looked up, glanced at Lu Chen walking into the parlor, did not stand up, and instead lowered his head to look at the newspaper again.

Lu Chen pointed to the corner, and Butler Wang nodded slightly, carrying the gifts to the corner.

He walked silently to the sofa beside Old Sun and sat down, his body unconsciously straightening a bit.

"Since you're here, you're here, why bring gifts? Wait for Miss Luosha to arrive later, see what she likes, and let her take it away."

Old Sun turned a page and spoke softly.

"Old Sun, this is for you; I prepared a separate gift for Miss Luosha."

Lu Chen smiled and beckoned to Butler Wang.

Butler Wang walked over and respectfully placed the brocade box on the coffee table.

Lu Chen pushed it toward Old Sun.

"Since it's a gift specifically prepared for Miss Luosha, why show it to an old man like me?"

Old Sun rolled his eyes at Lu Chen, reached out to push the brocade box back to Lu Chen's side, pulled a Cigar from the Cigar box on the coffee table, and tossed it to Lu Chen.

Only then did Old Sun begin to preheat his own.

"No need to curry favor with an old man like me; curry favor more with the young lady. You're at such an age, and you don't even know how to start a family."

Old Sun rambled on while preheating.

"That crazy girl Luosha is the same; she hasn't met anyone she likes after all these years. I did hear that she looked at you differently at the Crown Auction; little Lu, when you should seize the opportunity, don't hesitate."

"You're joking, sir; matters of the heart aren't something that can be rushed just because you urge them."

Lu Chen's hand preheating the Cigar paused, a trace of gravity appearing in his eyes, though his tone carried a hint of ease.

He chatted with Old Sun about other topics—clear tea, Cigar—he didn't know why the big shots in Xianggang all liked this combination.

"You lad, are you starting to brush me off because you see I'm old?"

Old Sun pointed his hand holding the Cigar vaguely at Lu Chen, as if he had only just realized it.

He took a sip of tea, shifted his crossed legs into a more comfortable position, took a puff of his Cigar, and slowly exhaled the smoke.

His eyes held a look that was half-smile, half-mockery.

"I don't know how Lao Li taught you, you little slippery rascal."

"Old Sun, how would I dare to be slippery with you."

A simple, honest smile appeared on Lu Chen's face; he uncrossed his legs and sat up slightly straighter.

He looked directly at Old Sun, his fingers gripping the Cigar tighter, the skin over his knuckles turning a shade of pale.

"You, there's no need to be nervous; Luosha doesn't eat people, though, as for you..."

Old Sun looked Lu Chen up and down, nodded slightly, and picked up a piece of pastry from the tray on the coffee table.

He took a light bite, then took another sip of tea.

He raised his hand to check his watch.

He beckoned to Steward Zhao, who was standing in the corner.

"Steward Zhao, bring a fresh plate of the pastries Miss Luosha likes."

Lu Chen froze for a split second, then his face began to relax, and he put on a faint smile once again.

He took a puff of his Cigar, slowly exhaled the smoke, and then spoke in a slightly hoarse voice.

"Now that you put it that way, I'm actually even more nervous."

"You little monkey, let's go."

Old Sun pointed at Lu Chen with a smile and stubbed out his Cigar.

He rose slowly and took the Dragon Head Cane handed to him by Steward Zhao.

"That girl will be here any moment."

"Understood."

Lu Chen stood up silently, walked to Old Sun's side, and reached out to help him up.

He followed Old Sun's pace and walked toward the entrance of the Zhuangyuan.
