Chapter 66: Preparing to Start Work

~7 min read 1,333 words

"Very well, boss, then I will notify the brothers and have them get ready."

Chen Mo took two fierce drags of his cigarette and stubbed it out.

"Those gang members are indeed getting a bit arrogant, although our brothers weren't hurt..."

Lu Chen silently poured a large cup of clear tea for Chen Mo.

Not until Chen Mo had finished rambling about everything.

"Issue a bonus to the brothers; the work this time was done well."

Lu Chen paused to take a drag of his Cigar, slowly exhaled the smoke, and tapped his fingers lightly on the sofa armrest.

"Fighting and killing is not our style; if someone really comes over to pick a fight, there's no need to be polite."

Lu Chen stubbed out the Cigar and lit a 555.

"Don't worry about the debt collectors; we won't participate, nor will we stop them. Let the existing order be maintained for a while longer, but they are not allowed to collect debts from our own workers."

Lu Chen sighed; changing things was still too difficult.

"Alright, I'll go arrange it now, but..."

Chen Mo's face turned slightly red, and he looked hesitant. After a good while, he looked up at Lu Chen.

"The matter you asked me to handle last time cost quite a bit..."

"Go, just go to the finance department and withdraw it yourself. Why are you being so shy?"

Lu Chen was practically amused by Chen Mo; he had already given him the authority.

Yet he still came over to talk about this.

"For money that can't be spoken of, just say I approved it. Don't let everything leak out; you handle the rest yourself."

"Understood."

Chen Mo answered in a muffled voice.

After chatting with Lu Chen for a while longer, he finally left the study.

"Steward Wang, come in and sit."

Lu Chen poured himself another cup of coffee and beckoned to Steward Wang, who was standing at the door.

"Master."

Steward Wang bowed slightly and sat on the sofa Lu Chen had indicated.

He was entirely proper, exactly the same as when Lu Chen first met him.

"You heard what was said just now; notify the finance department that some matters do not need to be recorded in the books."

Lu Chen leaned back against the sofa, crossed his legs, and looked at Steward Wang.

"I won't concern myself with how you communicate with the other stewards. By the way, is my schedule full for the next half month?"

"Yes, your schedule is full for these next fifteen days. Every day requires a visit to a landowner, and some of them are not very important."

Steward Wang took out his pocket notebook, flipped through it, and then looked up at Lu Chen.

Lu Chen tossed a pack of 555 to Steward Wang and took one out for himself.

He lit it, took a drag, and looked up at Steward Wang.

"No need to cancel; these people must be met eventually. Even those who are unwilling to deal with us can be contacted."

A glint flashed in Lu Chen's eyes; he took a drag of his cigarette and tapped his fingers lightly on the sofa armrest.

"Just say that Miss Luosha has already partnered with me; if they aren't willing, don't cause me any trouble."

A hint of coldness was in Lu Chen's voice.

"As long as it doesn't affect my normal construction, they can do whatever they want."

"By the way, I welcome them to sell their land to us; we will not cause any harm to their interests in Nitan."

After Lu Chen finished speaking, he took a deep look at Steward Wang.

His eyes held a trace of coldness.

"When you have time, go visit more people you consider important. Hmm, Elder Hou can be approached, but be careful yourself."

"Very well, Master."

Steward Wang nodded, made a few marks in his notebook, and looked up at Lu Chen.

"Manager Li has replied, saying he has received your instructions and is already in contact with a financial company on the verge of bankruptcy."

After a moment of silence, Lu Chen took out pen and paper, wrote down a long passage, and handed it to Steward Wang.

"Send this to Xuan Hua using the No. 2 codebook. Tell him not to save those few pennies; buy a commercial radio station and register it so it's convenient for us to communicate."

After Lu Chen took two drags of his cigarette, he thought of something.

"By the way, has that 100 million pound payment arrived?"

"80 million pounds have already arrived in the account. As for the remaining funds, Elder Hou says they won't arrive until tonight."

Steward Wang, who had just been about to stand up, sat back down, his body unconsciously straightening a bit.

"Fine. Tonight, have Manager Zhao and the others come back for a meeting. Tell the kitchen to prepare more good food for the evening, and by the way, prepare more of what the little one likes to eat."

Lu Chen nodded slightly, took a drag of his cigarette, and stubbed it out in the ashtray.

Watching Steward Wang leave the study, he returned to his desk and sat down.

He took out the document folder sealed with wax.

He opened it and began to read.

"Xuan Hua, the plan you made is about to begin. It's a pity you are in Piaoliang Guo at this moment."

Lu Chen sighed, picked up his fountain pen, and began making changes to the plan.

Truly, not until he handled the documents himself did Lu Chen start to get a headache.

He really didn't know much about the building materials of this era.

And most importantly, the factory building was actually planned with a wooden roof...

Lu Chen rubbed his temples.

It would be better to let Manager Yang and the others find professionals to handle it.

After a long while, Lu Chen felt that he had finally finished revising the documents.

He could already faintly hear the little one's laughter in the living room.

"Steward Wang, let them have their dinner. If I go over, they won't be at ease. Just bring me a simple meal, and you go join them later."

Lu Chen looked up at Steward Wang, who was still standing by in the hallway, and spoke softly.

He pulled the desk lamp closer and continued to revise the documents.

After all, showing off in front of one's subordinates wasn't exactly a dignified thing to do.

If word got out, he might even be laughed at.

Lu Chen shook his head, silently preheated a Cigar, and after taking a puff and slowly exhaling the smoke, he continued reading.

It wasn't until Steward Wang brought in the simple meal that Lu Chen stretched his back.

He stood by the window and looked out at the brightly lit Victoria Harbour in the distance.

A long time passed.

Lu Chen slowly closed the documents.

Only then did he shovel down a few bites of food.

Seeing that Steward Wang hadn't come up yet, Lu Chen wasn't in a hurry.

He poured himself a cup of coffee.

He kept reviewing the plan in his mind.

It wasn't until Steward Wang knocked lightly on the door that Lu Chen opened his eyes.

"Have they all arrived at the conference room?"

"Yes, Master."

Steward Wang bowed slightly.

"Let's go."

Lu Chen stood up and took the documents.

He walked toward the conference room first.

"You should attend these kinds of meetings in the future; don't hide far away every time."

"Understood, Master."

Steward Wang followed behind Lu Chen, his body pausing slightly before straightening up even more.

The corners of Lu Chen's mouth curled up slightly, and he nodded gently.

He walked to the entrance of the conference room, stood still, and straightened his suit.

He opened the door and walked in.

Steward Wang followed closely behind and closed the wooden door of the conference room behind him.
