Chapter 83: Chen Mo's Intelligence

~8 min read 1,436 words

Lu Chen paused slightly, nodded, and sighed softly.

After seeing Liu Hengsheng off, Lu Chen returned to his bedroom feeling somewhat exhausted.

He resealed the documents in his portable space and placed them into the safe.

Only then did he fiddle with the Small Box for a while.

He went to bed.

Early in the morning, Lu Chen woke up a bit later than usual.

However, all in all, the rest had been quite good.

"BOSS."

Seeing Lu Chen come downstairs, Shen Wanyu stood up and called out.

Steward Wang brought over a glass of milk, bread, and eggs from the dining room.

Lu Chen sat in the main seat of the reception hall, and after a simple meal, he looked toward Shen Wanyu.

"It's like this: this morning, Young Master Liu Hengsheng sent over a 500 million pound check from the United Neutral Bank, as well as a jade whale, saying it was as agreed upon with you."

Lu Chen nodded slightly without speaking; instead, after wiping his mouth, he began to preheat a Cigar.

Shen Wanyu did not stop, but continued her report.

"There have been no violent incidents at Nitan for the time being. Do you think we should resume work, or continue to wait?"

"Wait another day; give them one more day to handle the issues."

Lu Chen spoke softly.

"Of these 500 million in funds, send 300 million to Li Ge, and put the remaining 200 million into a company along with the previous 200 million. This is for construction costs; remember to tell Zhao."

After finishing, Lu Chen took a puff of his Cigar and picked up the newspaper on the table to flip through it.

Lu Chen's pupils constricted; the official verdict was finally out.

"The gang that attacked the Hong Kong Advanced Hospital was wiped out by officials yesterday; this operation involved..."

Lu Chen read the entire report carefully; hmm, it sounded quite convincing.

"Where is Chen Mo?"

Lu Chen looked up at Shen Wanyu and spoke to Steward Wang.

"He is at the training ground. He has been staying at the training ground for this period of time; hmm, he hasn't been back for two days, he just calls in the evening."

Steward Wang bowed slightly and spoke softly.

"Call him back; I need to talk to him."

Lu Chen sighed, paused, and then spoke.

Steward Wang nodded slightly and picked up the telephone in the living room to dial a number.

After a few brief sentences, he hung up.

Less than 20 minutes later, Chen Mo stood before Lu Chen.

"Let's go, to the study."

Lu Chen spoke softly, stood up, and casually tossed a pack of 555s to Chen Mo.

In the study, Lu Chen did not sit down immediately; he waited for Chen Mo to enter before closing the door himself.

He pointed to the sofa next to the main seat and sat down first.

He unwrapped a new pack of 555s, placed it on the coffee table, and lit one for himself.

"What are you standing there for? Smoke."

Seeing Chen Mo sitting there silently like a child who had made a mistake, Lu Chen sighed.

Forget it; Lu Chen took one out of the cigarette pack, stuffed it into Chen Mo's mouth, and lit it.

"What are you being so sensitive for, you big man?"

Only after seeing Chen Mo smoke did Lu Chen speak slowly.

"I don't mean to blame you. Just tell me, wasn't the order given by me? Aren't the consequences to be borne by me? What does it have to do with you? Did you think you, a big lug like you, could handle it?"

Lu Chen's voice grew louder as he spoke.

"If I really threw you out there, you'd be paraded through the streets in less than 5 minutes. Why be sensitive now? Isn't there still me for everything?"

After finishing, Lu Chen smoked silently until Chen Mo finished his cigarette, then he took another one.

Only then did Lu Chen speak.

"This matter wasn't that complicated to begin with. I need to ask you about the specific situation now. You were there the whole time that night at the hospital, right?"

Chen Mo looked at Lu Chen in surprise and nodded silently.

He finished his cigarette in a few puffs, opened his mouth, stood up, walked to the door, and poured a large glass from the thermos.

Returning to the sofa, he gulped it down before speaking.

"I was there the whole time. Is there a problem?"

"Aside from your operation, was there anything unusual?"

Lu Chen didn't waste words either; he stared intently at Chen Mo and lit another 555.

He took a deep drag.

"I only found out about this yesterday. At the hospital you hit, there was a foreigner recuperating there, and you disturbed him. However, he was in the high-end recuperation area; you shouldn't have gone there."

"We didn't go there, but just as we were finishing, there was indeed a commotion over there. It's a good thing we retreated quickly, or we would have run into the patrols."

Chen Mo paused and spoke directly.

Lu Chen reached out and tapped the armrest slowly, frowning.

"Have the brothers' compensation been paid out? Were the bonuses issued?"

"Three brothers died; they were buried secretly. Each family was given 1 million Hong Kong dollars in compensation. Finance thought I bought flour."

Chen Mo's tone was calm, his fists clenched tight.

"Those who weren't injured were given 200,000, and those who were injured were given 300,000; they are all recovering at the training grounds."

"If it weren't for the brothers pulling their weight, I'm afraid we might not have even been able to bring their bodies back this time."

Chen Mo waited a good while before letting out a sigh.

"For the compensation and bonuses, follow this standard; as for their families, send those who should be in school to school, and you all keep an eye out—don't let anyone get bullied."

Lu Chen paused slightly, and after a moment of silence, he took a fierce drag of his cigarette.

It was several seconds before he spoke.

"Buy an apartment in Central, and the company will arrange some positions so the brothers' families can go work there; don't worry if they don't know how, they can learn slowly, and if that really doesn't work, they can do cleaning—everyone knows how to clean, right?"

Chen Mo nodded silently.

Lu Chen patted Chen Mo on the shoulder before continuing.

"This matter is of such great importance that I'm sure Manager Wang has already reminded you many times; all of you, behave yourselves, and if anyone wants to find some fun, tell me, and I'll send them to Piaoliang Guo for field duty."

Lu Chen stared fixedly at Chen Mo, and after Chen Mo took two puffs of his cigarette, he slowly nodded.

"I think it's better to just send those people to Piaoliang Guo; their mouths are tight enough, it's just that they can't quite control themselves."

"How about this: have Xuan Hua contact a security company, and you pick some people to send over for further training."

Lu Chen was stunned for a moment, looked deeply at Chen Mo, and after a long time, he spoke with some difficulty.

"In a few years when they come back, I'm afraid you'll have to step down."

"Heh, whatever you say goes."

Chen Mo reached out to rub his head, a simple, honest smile appearing on his face.

"Tingting is doing well, and that's more important than me doing well."

"You, you still know you're Tingting's father; use your brain more in the future."

Lu Chen poked Chen Mo's temple.

He sighed, feeling that his expectations for him had not been met.

"Go, go, go, call Manager Wang for me, tell him about what just happened while you're at it, and also, come with me to the cemetery this afternoon; even though I never met them, I should at least see them off."

Not until Chen Mo had walked out of the study did Lu Chen sigh.

He silently lit a cigarette and took a deep drag, his head feeling slightly dizzy.

It took several seconds before he recovered.

"Sir."

Manager Wang knocked lightly on the wooden door and bowed slightly.

"Contact Elder Chen; I will go over tomorrow to catch up with the old man."

Lu Chen tapped his fingers lightly on the sofa armrest.

For such a major event to happen and for Elder Chen's side to have absolutely no reaction—it really is a bit improper.
