Chapter 89: Who Is the Female Rider at the Racetrack?

~7 min read 1,373 words

"I've noted it down. If you have anything, just tell me. I'm usually at Guilan Fang."

After Feizai shut his mouth, he finally spoke again.

"Let me ask you something. How did Fei Ge of Jiu Chang Jie disappear?"

Lu Chen's eyes flickered. He took a puff of his cigar and tapped the tabletop lightly with his finger.

"You don't know?"

A glint flashed through Feizai's small eyes, a note of surprise in his tone.

He took a puff of his cigar, glanced at Lu Chen again, and only then spoke.

"That little boss Fei Ge over at Jiu Chang Jie wanted to investigate you, and got cleaned out by the higher-ups. Should be Hou Lao's handiwork. As for the specifics, I really don't know, but all kinds of rumors are flying around."

Lu Chen nodded slightly, took a puff of his cigar, and a glint flashed through his eyes.

"What you say is possible, but Hou Lao never mentioned this to me."

"I wouldn't know about that. After all, Jiu Chang Jie isn't the most important spot in Nitan, otherwise a small fry like Fei Ge wouldn't have drawn anyone's attention."

Feizai narrowed his eyes and said softly.

He gently picked up his teacup and took a sip, then lifted his briefcase and nodded slightly.

When his fat body stood up, it seemed as if the whole room trembled.

"You're busy, I've still got work to do for you, so I'll take my leave first."

Walking to Chen Mo's side, he gave his shoulder a light pat.

"Next time you come to Guilan Fang, I'll introduce you to a nice girl."

Chen Mo was stunned for a moment, glanced at Lu Chen, then nodded slightly, opened the door, and watched Feizai squeeze out of the room.

Only then did he let out a breath of relief.

Lu Chen tossed two more cigarettes to Butler Wang and Chen Mo, and finished his cigar himself.

He took two sips of tea, then rose.

"Let's go."

Saimachang — this was Lu Chen's second time here.

It was also one of the few entertainment facilities Lu Chen could still find these days.

After all, in this era, all kinds of entertainment facilities were still very scarce.

Apart from those unspeakable entertainments, it seemed Saimachang was the only place left to go.

Even without taking part in the entertainment, simply watching was quite nice.

"Welcome, Mr. Lu. Miss Luosha's private box is open to you. You may go straight up."

The ticket seller, upon seeing Lu Chen, jogged over and bowed slightly.

Lu Chen was stunned for a moment, a smile came onto his face, and he nodded slightly.

The staff member led Lu Chen, heading all the way to the top floor.

They stopped at the very middle room.

"This is Miss Luosha's private box. Please."

The staff member took out a brass key and opened the door.

He didn't enter, merely bowed slightly, stepped back a few paces, and only then continued speaking.

"Some snacks and a fruit platter will be brought to you shortly. Enjoy your time at Saimachang."

Lu Chen took a deep breath and pushed the door open to enter.

Tasteful decor, two sofas facing the racetrack, and a side table placed between them.

The air seemed to still hold a trace of Luosha's scent.

Lu Chen took a quick glance and sat down directly on the single armchair that showed almost no signs of use.

After a few minutes, the door was knocked. Lu Chen glanced back — it was a waiter — and only then relaxed.

He stayed in his seat without moving. Chen Mo carefully took over the cart, didn't let the waiter enter, and personally placed the snacks and red wine within Lu Chen's easy reach.

He returned to the doorway once more.

Butler Wang opened the red wine, gave it a simple sniff, and poured it into a decanter.

Saimachang was a hubbub of voices; even Lu Chen in the private box could hear them faintly.

"Coming up next is our recent three-race winning streak champion, Bmw Toni!"

The host's voice pierced the skies, passionate and stirring, and the entire Saimachang erupted in cheers following his voice.

Even Lu Chen was drawn by the distant rider.

Though he couldn't make out the face beneath the visor, the long hair still gave Lu Chen some surprise.

"Butler Wang, place a bet on that rider — one million Hong Kong dollars."

Seeing the long-haired rider seemed to glance toward his Guibingshi, the corner of Lu Chen's mouth curved up slightly, and he spoke directly.

He raised his glass in a distant toast.

Butler Wang bowed slightly and turned to leave.

Lu Chen took a sip of red wine and quietly waited for the race to begin.

Although the view from the top floor wasn't particularly clear, the atmosphere of the entire venue was plain to see.

It could only be said that the host's incitement was simply too exaggerated!

Even as the introductions were being made, the horse-ticket booths were already packed, with long queues forming, and even next door people seemed to be constantly coming and going.

The only pity was that this era still required manual labor. If it were before his transmigration, a few taps on a phone would have done it.

Soon the race began, and this female rider took the lead, seizing the advantageous position.

Sure enough, she led all the way for three laps and crossed the finish line!

Emmm, how should I put it, within expectations.

But it was obvious that this female jockey's horse was more than a grade above the other competitors' horses.

It had absolutely reached the level of a thousand-li horse; coming to Saimachang was like an adult bullying a child.

"Master, this jockey's information is very mysterious — we couldn't find anything on her."

After Butler Wang returned, he bowed slightly and spoke softly into Lu Chen's ear.

Lu Chen gave a slight nod and said nothing.

Instead, he relaxed.

After all, he had only come out for a casual stroll; Lu Chen had no intention of prying into other people's affairs.

He had merely run into something interesting.

After a while, the door sounded, and Luosha walked in carrying her helmet.

Her slightly damp hair made the scent on her body a little stronger.

Lu Chen rose and gave a slight nod.

Whether it was the somewhat nervous Chen Mo or Butler Wang standing beside him, both respectfully withdrew from the private box.

"Miss Luosha, I didn't expect you'd also take part in horse racing."

Lu Chen stepped forward a few paces and gave Luosha a light handshake.

"I thought Mr. Lu's eyes only had endless business deals in them. The last time you came to Saimachang seems to have been over a month ago, didn't it?"

Luosha hung her helmet on the wall, sat down beside Lu Chen, and with a smile poured herself a glass of red wine.

Her tone was still slightly unsteady, and her voice was much gentler than before.

"Not at all — I simply haven't yet established myself in Xianggang, so I didn't dare let up."

Lu Chen smiled faintly and reached out to clink glasses with Luosha.

"So then, champion Miss Luosha, do you have any acceptance remarks?"

"This young lady's horsemanship is number one in Xianggang? Hehehe..."

Luosha froze for a moment, the corners of her mouth turning up slightly. After taking a sip of red wine, she finally slumped into the chair.

"When you have time some day, Mr. Lu might as well come try horse racing too — it's really too thrilling."

"That's truly a pity — I don't actually know how to ride yet. When I have a free day, I'll definitely hire a professional coach to help me train."

Lu Chen shrugged, a hint of regret showing on his face.

"Once I've practiced well enough, I'll compete with Miss Luosha on the track."

"That really is a pity — if you knew how, I'd been planning to have a match with you this afternoon."

Luosha chatted casually with Lu Chen for a while longer; her scent in the room seemed to grow even stronger.
