Chapter 174: Rascal

~7 min read 1,394 words

In the morning, when the two of them helped the sister-in-law carry her packages and delivered them to her home, the sister-in-law took an extra look at the frostbite.

Unexpectedly, by evening, the Battalion Commander had brought over the Frostbite Ointment; the sister-in-law had asked for it to be brought over, and the implication was self-evident.

After Chen Xun finished his wife's task, he quickly jogged back to Xiao Yuan.

"So fast." An Yinan looked at him in surprise.

Chen Xun smiled and wiped his sweaty face, "I jogged there and back."

An Yinan was between laughter and tears, "It wasn't urgent, why run?"

As she spoke, she took the towel from his hand and helped him wipe off his sweat.

The meal was already heated, and the two of them finished eating with the meat sauce.

Chen Xun went to the kitchen to scrub the lunchbox clean and put it away, so he could use it to get food tomorrow morning.

Then he arranged the items placed on the floor one by one; fearing An Yinan would forget, he specifically told her the location of each item after placing it.

Watching the things on the floor grow fewer and fewer, until the last item was put away, Chen Xun finally washed his hands and walked over.

An Yinan pulled his hands over and opened a bottle of Frostbite Ointment.

"I don't need it, I've been here a long time and have already adapted," Chen Xun laughed.

An Yinan glared at him, "Adapting won't do."

Chen Xun smiled helplessly, "Alright."

An Yinan applied the Frostbite Ointment to all his hands, then used both of hers to massage them, allowing the ointment to be absorbed quickly.

"It doesn't seem to itch anymore," Chen Xun said in surprise.

The itch of frostbite had already become a norm.

When they first arrived here, they had to keep their hands raised; otherwise, if they let them down, they would feel a strong, dragging pain.

Their hands were frostbitten and developed sores, with no chance to heal at all.

New frostbite appeared in batches, and the old frostbite never healed; as time went on, they actually developed a resistance to this pain and itching.

When they first arrived, some cried because of separation from loved ones, some cried because they were too tired, but more people cried because of the frostbite on their hands and feet.

The most miserable thing was standing guard; it was cold, their hands and feet itched, but they couldn't move.

In this extreme weather, the suffering they endured was far greater than that of ordinary troops.

Never did he expect the Frostbite Ointment his own wife made to be so effective; after just one application, that bone-deep itching vanished.

An Yinan glanced at him sideways, "That's for sure, don't look at who made it."

The coquettish little expression made Chen Xun adore her to no end.

"Mm, my wife made it," Chen Xun said.

An Yinan gave a cold hum, "It was Comrade An who made it."

Chen Xun nodded, "Mm, Comrade An made it, and Comrade An is my wife."

"Rascal," An Yinan said.

Chen Xun dared not tease his girl any further, afraid of making her angry.

"I'll go boil some water for you to soak your feet, then apply it to those too," An Yinan said.

Chen Xun quickly grabbed her, "Don't go to the trouble, I'll boil the water myself in a bit."

He pulled the girl's hand over and held it in his own large hand; his hand was very large, and the girl's hand was very small, just right to completely wrap hers up.

"Sit with me for a while," Chen Xun said.

An Yinan looked at Chen Xun, then obediently sat down beside him, resting her head on Chen Xun's shoulder.

Now, she seemed to rely on this man more and more.

This feeling was quite good, not fighting the battle alone.

For a moment, neither of them spoke, leaning on each other, listening to each other's breathing.

When An Yinan woke up, it was already the next morning; she quickly washed up and, wanting to go out for a morning run, saw Chen Xun in the kitchen.

"Eh, you didn't go to training?" The slogans on the training ground and the sound of uniform footsteps were so orderly.

Chen Xun looked at the slightly dazed girl, "Didn't I say I'd take you out to play today?"

An Yinan closed her eyes and patted her forehead, "Oh my, look at my memory."

"Go wash up and come eat," Chen Xun pointed to the dining table.

An Yinan looked at the white noodles, gave Chen Xun an amused look, and then walked quickly to wash up.

After washing up, she sat down at the dining table, "You made this?"

Chen Xun nodded, "My cooking isn't very good, try it first, I'll learn from the Mess Hall later."

An Yinan took a bite; it was hard to describe the taste, but it wasn't bad.

"The taste is not bad," An Yinan gave Chen Xun affirmation.

Chen Xun smiled and took a mouthful himself; he wasn't very picky about texture or food.

But this taste...

Well, there was quite a bit of room for improvement.

An Yinan ate half a bowl, and Chen Xun reached out to stop her, "We're going to the State-run Restaurant today, just leave these, I'll eat them tonight."

An Yinan looked at the noodles in the bowl with regret; her own man had cooked it himself, how could she not show him some face?

But she also really wanted to eat at the State-run Restaurant.

"Alright, let's go, we'll miss the bus if we don't leave now," Chen Xun said.

An Yinan jumped up quickly and went into the room to put on a red cotton-padded jacket; this was the new jacket her eldest aunt had sent over, and the whole thing felt very slim and structured, making An Yinan, who already had a slim waist, look even thinner, and the bright red color was vivid and passionate; An Yinan wouldn't usually choose this color, but since she was finally going out with Chen Xun today, she specifically chose red.

"Does it look good?" An Yinan stood in front of Chen Xun and twirled.

Chen Xun nodded affirmatively, "It looks good." She looked good in anything.

Some words of love are never spoken in a lifetime, but once you meet that person, you naturally want to say them.

An Yinan smiled, her eyes curving like crescent moons.

"Let's go." She reached out her hand.

Chen Xun took her hand in his, then placed them both into his overcoat pocket.

The two of them locked the courtyard and walked toward the entrance of the Camp.

"Sister-in-law." "Sister-in-law."

The people they met greeted them one after another.

"Sister-in-law, that Frostbite Ointment is so effective; my hands and feet aren't itchy at all anymore, and many of the sores have healed up a lot." Upon seeing An Yinan, Xiaokang hurried to give his feedback.

An Yinan said with a smile, "As long as it works, come find me for more when you run out."

"Yes!" Xiaokang gave a military salute.

Chen Xun just watched, not saying a word the whole time; seeing his girl's happy expression and her sense of fulfillment, the hostility he felt toward these boys in his heart dropped significantly.

"Battalion Commander Chen, hurry and get on the truck," a soldier shouted to Chen Xun.

Chen Xun jumped onto the truck first, then reached out his hand to An Yinan and pulled her up.

There were already quite a few people on the truck; some were going to carry out missions, some were military wives or family members commuting to work in the City, and others were specifically going to the City to buy things.

In short, the truck was already full.

Seeing Chen Xun pulling An Yinan inside, the expressions of a few people changed; they were the very same people who had been gossiping the other day.

An Yinan didn't dwell on it too much; it was enough to let everyone know she had a bad temper and wasn't someone they could provoke at will.

Besides, Wang Erhua had already been dealt with, and she didn't intend to do anything to the others.
