Chapter 377: The Collapsed Aunt
"Love?" The man stepped forward, raised his hand, and struck out fiercely.
Liu Mingxia was knocked to the ground by the sheer force; her mind went blank, and she even forgot to cry.
Clutching her face, she looked up in disbelief, "Daddy, you hit me?"
She had grown up abroad since she was a child, and her daddy and mommy had never laid a finger on her; whatever she wanted, no matter what it was, they would bring it before her.
Just because she hit An Yinan, Daddy actually hit me?
In the hospital, after four hours, An Yinan was finally wheeled out of the treatment room.
The tall, thin person was now wrapped up like a rice dumpling, her complexion pale and colorless; she was devoid of life, and the dark bruising on her face was clearly visible.
"How is she?" Everyone crowded around.
Even that old man put down the pen in his hand, stood up, and waited for the result.
"Her whole body is covered in wounds; these are just external injuries, there are multiple fractures, and there is bleeding in the chest cavity." When the Dean said this, his voice was trembling.
He was a military doctor who had been on the battlefield before.
He had seen many tragic sights and had seen many lives lost, sometimes without even having the time to attempt resuscitation.
Yet, he was still shocked by these injuries; those fine, fragmented wounds and the bruising all over her body—he found it hard to imagine how the patient had managed to hold on.
"Don't give us those medical terms, just tell us when she will wake up," Hua Wensheng asked anxiously.
His heart had been in his throat the whole time; without a definitive answer, he could not let go.
The Dean shook his head; he had no way to provide an answer to this question.
"To be honest, I don't know." The Dean lowered his head, not daring to look into their eyes.
"What is the specific situation, and what should we do from here on?" the old man asked calmly.
The Dean twitched the corner of his mouth; he could still smell the scent of blood in his nose.
"Her condition is very special; now it depends on her willpower. If her willpower is strong enough, she might wake up tomorrow."
"If... she might never wake up."
That person seemed as if she had been shattered; they, the doctors, had only stitched all the broken pieces back together, but they did not know how long this state could be maintained, or if it could be maintained until she woke up.
Hearing the Dean's words, Hua Wensheng collapsed onto a bench.
The young man quickly steadied him, otherwise, it wouldn't have been just the bench he collapsed onto.
Yun Fei was full of sorrow, but he said, "Willpower, you say?"
"People of my Yun Family, from the moment they are born, the one thing they never lack is willpower."
Even though he was uneasy inside, he was still full of hope; he didn't know what he would do in the future if there were no hope.
What would happen to Nan Nan?
"Well said! We will wait for her," the old man said in agreement.
An Yinan was wheeled into the Special Care Ward; very few people could enter, and in order to facilitate taking care of An Yinan, they had to call Liu Xicai.
"Where is she?" Liu Xicai said in disbelief.
She was in the middle of a meeting at the bureau when she received the call from the Military General Hospital.
Nan Nan was injured?
If she hadn't confirmed that the person on the phone was Yun Fei, she would have cursed back on the spot.
But her own husband never joked.
Something had happened to Nan Nan!
She didn't have time to pack anything; she got on her bicycle and headed straight for the Military General Hospital.
Half an hour later, "Where is Nan Nan? How is Nan Nan?"
Liu Xicai did not notice her voice trembling; she stared at Yun Fei, afraid of missing a single trace of his emotions.
They had been married for many years and already had two children.
Yet this was the first time she had observed Yun Fei like this, just wanting to wait for an answer.
A man's love is deep and good at hiding.
But a woman's love is scorching and intense.
Especially toward their own children, they are selfless to the core, and they love passionately.
In her heart, Nan Nan was her child, her daughter.
Over so many years of contact, Nan Nan had communicated with her even more than Yun Qin had.
"Xicai, calm down first!" Yun Fei held her shoulders, letting her trembling body steady itself and giving her something to lean on.
Liu Xicai, however, brushed his hand away, "Yun Fei, did you make her go on a mission?"
"Yun Qin joined the Military, and if you let Yun Qin go on missions, I don't blame you; she is a soldier, and this was her own choice."
"Bi Bi also joined the Military; for the sake of the country, that is what he should endure because he is a soldier."
"But Nan Nan is not!"
"She is not a soldier, she is only twenty-one years old, she has grand ambitions, she has grand ideals, she has always been working hard for the country; I beg you, can you let her go?"
Liu Xicai's eyes were filled with tears; it wasn't that she didn't love her own children, or that she didn't love Yun Qin and Yun Bi.
But the futures of Yun Qin and Yun Bi were their own choices; as a mother, all she could do was support them.
They made their choices, so naturally, they had to bear the consequences themselves.
But what about Nan Nan? She is a university student, she is just a freshman, she is studying Economics, she is not a soldier!
She doesn't need to be so selfless, she doesn't need to sacrifice her life for the country.
They had been husband and wife for many years, and she knew Yun Fei too well; if Yun Fei hadn't been involved in this matter, he wouldn't be feeling guilty.
"Comrade Liu!" an elderly voice said.
"This matter was my mistake, and it has nothing to do with Comrade Yun."
Liu Xicai turned her head and saw a familiar face; it was the director of their Education Bureau.
She had seen him when he returned, and she had also seen him at several large-scale meetings.
"Director Hua, you are here too." Liu Xicai only greeted him and said nothing else.
She looked at Yun Fei; the outburst just now had allowed her emotions to stabilize and her mind to calm down.
"How is Nan Nan?" Liu Xicai looked at him, waiting for an answer.
Yun Fei pointed to the special ward, "Comatose, chest hemorrhage, multiple fractures, needs care."
Liu Xicai did not even give him a glance and left directly; following the nurse's instructions, she put on the clothing before pushing the door open to enter the special ward.
When she saw An Yinan's condition, Liu Xicai could no longer hold back her tears; her vision blurred, and only then could she stop seeing how An Yinan looked.
"Nan Nan, Aunt is here." Liu Xicai wiped away her tears and sat by the side of the bed, looking at the person whose face was so bruised and purple that she was unrecognizable.
She said nothing at all, and did not even dare to touch her, fearing she might cause her pain.
Outside the ward, no one mocked Yun Fei.
They were all shaken by Liu Xicai's words; for the first time, they felt the powerful resentment of a mother.
What wrong was there in her loving her own child?
A day passed, and the people outside dispersed; each of them had their own work, and being able to delay for one day was already their limit.
But the hospital's phone had not stopped ringing.
Two days passed, and the bruises on An Yinan's body slowly began to spread, looking even more terrifying.
