Chapter 47: Wait for Me After School

~7 min read 1,228 words

After dinner came evening self-study.

Kong Jun came to the classroom, turned on the projector at the podium, and smiled at everyone: "It's just the start of the term, textbooks haven't been distributed yet—I'm afraid you'll be bored during self-study, so let's watch a movie."

As he spoke, Kong Jun operated the projector while glancing toward the window by the corridor.

He was about to say something when Li Luo, sitting in the back row, spoke first: "Ren Zheng, Fang Chen, please pull down the curtains. Zhang Guohuang, close the back door."

Hearing his name called suddenly, the two students by the window were momentarily stunned.

Zhang Guohuang was the first to react—he sprang up and ran to the back to shut the door.

At that moment, the two students also came to their senses and quickly pulled the blinds shut.

Kong Jun glanced at Li Luo, then at Ren Zheng and Fang Chen by the window, silently memorizing their names and faces.

Generally, teachers take a slow time to memorize every student's name in a class.

Especially a subject teacher, who often teaches two classes.

If it's an elective, it might be even more.

No teacher could memorize every student's name and face on the first day of school.

But this class monitor seemed to have actually done it.

I originally thought it was some kind of quick-memory trick that would fade after a while.

Now it seems it's not like that at all.

As he thought this, Kong Jun opened a downloaded movie; as the opening title "Snowpiercer" appeared, he walked to the door and turned off the classroom lights, then called out Li Luo and the other four class officers.

"The meeting tonight is in Room 601—you can go up now," Kong Jun said to Li Luo.

"That's really cruel," Li Luo sighed. "I actually wanted to watch the movie."

"Then why don't you give me the class monitor position?" Hua Xiuxiu suddenly chimed in.

¤¢O

"Why are you always scheming to seize power?"

"Hah," Kong Jun chuckled at their exchange, then added, "After military training, we'll re-elect class officers. Li Luo, behave well—or you really might get ousted."

Li Luo raised an eyebrow, thinking: Is this actually a good thing?

"Understood, Teacher Kong. We'll go up now."

Li Luo led the group upstairs; Hua Xiuxiu, Yan Zhusheng, and Zhu Yufei followed behind them to Room 601.

The classrooms on the sixth floor aren't permanently assigned—they're usually empty.

They're borrowed when classes need meetings, clubs need activity space, or for public lessons.

When Li Luo and the others arrived at the door of Room 601, more than half the classes had already arrived.

Li Luo walked into the classroom and immediately saw Ying Chanxi sitting in the front row.

Ying Chanxi sat in the middle seat, with a good-looking boy on her right.

Seeing Li Luo enter, Ying Chanxi raised her hand, made a gesture over her chest, and pointed to the empty seat on her left.

Li Luo understood at once and walked straight over, sitting down beside her without hesitation, right in front of everyone's eyes.

But at the same time, all eyes in the classroom were drawn to Yan Zhusheng.

Because she wasn't wearing a uniform, Yan Zhusheng still wore her casual clothes—the tight jeans perfectly accentuated her long legs, and with her cool, serene face, she instantly captured everyone's attention.

Even the boy sitting beside Ying Chanxi couldn't help glancing up at her several times.

Yet under these circumstances, Yan Zhusheng, following behind Li Luo, casually sat down in the empty seat next to him.

Now, with Ying Chanxi on Li Luo's right and Yan Zhusheng on his left, he instantly became the center of attention.

From the moment Yan Zhusheng entered, Ying Chanxi's gaze had fixed on her—only when Yan Zhusheng sat down did Ying Chanxi finally look away.

Perhaps because there were so many people around, Ying Chanxi didn't speak to Li Luo, simply sitting quietly, calm and composed.

Even the vice monitor from Class One didn't dare initiate conversation with her.

"Teacher Kong just said that after military training, we'll re-elect class officers," Yan Zhusheng suddenly said to Li Luo. "If I drop out of the election, does that mean I won't have to be the PE officer?"

"I think you're overthinking it," Li Luo glanced at Yan Zhusheng, who always tried to slack off. "What if no one else runs for the female PE officer position?"

"Hmm…" Yan Zhusheng fell into thought, realizing it made sense—and grew troubled.

Sitting beside them, Ying Chanxi listened to their conversation, quietly perking up her ears, gripping her pen tightly, occasionally pulling off the cap and snapping it back on, looking slightly agitated.

The vice monitor beside her, Jian Zhenyuan, noticed Ying Chanxi's small movements and thought: Is the teacher running late, wasting the class monitor's study time?

"The teacher's here," Ying Chanxi suddenly said to Li Luo. "Be quiet."

The vice principal walked in through the classroom door and made his way to the podium.

Li Luo and Yan Zhusheng stopped talking; the entire classroom fell silent.

"I'm Mr. Liu—you can call me Teacher Liu," the vice principal smiled at the students, introducing himself. "Students from Classes One to Four, we've already met. Students from other classes are probably seeing me for the first time."

"This meeting is officially just to inform you of the military training guidelines."

"Also, to introduce ourselves, get familiar with each other. Today's format is relaxed—no need to be nervous."

As vice principal, Liu wasn't a rigid teacher—he began explaining the military training rules while occasionally calling on a student.

He'd ask their name and class, chat a bit about gossip involving their homeroom teacher, and the classroom would erupt in laughter from time to time; time passed quickly.

More than half an hour later, Teacher Liu announced the meeting was over, and the students began rising to leave.

As she was leaving, Ying Chanxi looked at Li Luo and whispered: "After school, wait for me in the classroom—we'll go home together."

"Alright," Li Luo nodded.

Ying Chanxi's voice was quiet, but several students from Class One and Class Eight heard her clearly.

Jian Zhenyuan, vice monitor of Class One, stiffened, staring at Li Luo in disbelief—he thought he'd misheard.

On the other side, in Class Eight, Yan Zhusheng didn't pay much attention; Zhu Yufei, knowing Li Luo was Ying Chanxi's cousin, showed no reaction.

In Hua Xiuxiu's memory, Ying Chanxi and Li Luo had been close since middle school—so she wasn't as surprised as those in Class One.

But on the way downstairs, Hua Xiuxiu curiously asked, "Are you dating Ying Chanxi?"

"What?" Before Li Luo could react, Zhu Yufei blurted out, "Aren't they brother and sister? Can they date?"

At these words, Yan Zhusheng immediately looked curious and turned to Li Luo.

At that moment, Li Luo's face was covered in dark lines; he looked from Hua Xiuxiu to Zhu Yufei: "Who told you I'm Ying Chanxi's younger brother?"

"Liu Shaowen said so," Zhu Yufei scratched his head. "Isn't that right?"

Li Luo: "..."

This guy really is something else… Ying Chanxi joked that he was her brother, and Liu Shaowen actually believed it?

Thinking this, Li Luo chose not to explain further, but declared solemnly: "I'm her cousin. Don't get it wrong."
