Chapter 531: What If the Teacher Sees Us?

~12 min read 2,240 words

On the sidewalk of Ningshan Avenue, Li Luo walked slowly, hands in his pockets.

The weather was nice today—a summer overcast day, warm but not the scorching heat of direct sunlight.

Li Luo wore a short-sleeved shirt given to him by Yan Zhusheng, pants gifted by Ying Chanxi, and underwear from Xu Youyu.

Not a single item of clothing on him was bought by himself.

To Li Luo, this was clearly a happy dilemma.

After leaving the south gate of Qianjiang University, Li Luo headed toward the affiliated No. 1 High School.

Qianjiang University's enrollment was spread over two days, and by now, the crowds had thinned considerably.

Meanwhile, at the affiliated No. 1 High School, today the 28th was the day new freshmen enrolled.

As student union president, Ying Chanxi had arrived early at the high school to oversee the opening procedures and was still busy on campus.

On his way to the high school, Li Luo casually bought a drink Ying Chanxi liked, greeted the security guard at the school gate, then walked straight inside.

The security guard there knew Li Luo well—after all, the teaching building directly opposite the gate had a large screen that played a video of Li Luo almost daily.

It featured promotions for the rock club and literature club, plus a special interview with Li Luo.

The guard saw Li Luo's handsome face every day; it was impossible not to remember him.

Otherwise, students not wearing uniforms couldn't enter so easily.

After entering the school, Li Luo quickly reached the student union meeting room, where he found Ying Chanxi discussing military training arrangements with classmates.

"Once the freshmen collect their military training uniforms, our task will basically be done," Ying Chanxi said. "Have everyone head to the storage shed on the playground and confirm all sizes are sorted?"

"No problem."

"Then let's go—I'll check on it too." As Ying Chanxi stood up, she faced a figure leaning against the doorway, smiling at her.

"Senior Li Luo," Jiang Liuxian saw Li Luo, glanced at Ying Chanxi, then chuckled and hurried out the door. "Sister, I'm off! You two chat longer! The meeting room's camera's been broken and never fixed—no one knows what you're doing in there!"

"You talk too much," Li Luo laughed, waved her off, stepped into the meeting room, and closed the door.

Hearing Jiang Liuxian's words, Ying Chanxi blushed, spat lightly, but her smiling eyes couldn't be hidden.

"Here," Li Luo handed the drink to Ying Chanxi. "Drink something—you've been busy all day."

Ying Chanxi glanced at the drink but didn't reach for it. Instead, she said, "You've worked hard too, helping me move luggage—tired, aren't you?"

"Not much to carry," Li Luo coughed, then opened the cap himself, wrapped his arm around her slender waist, and pressed the bottle's mouth to her lips. "You're the one who's exhausted, my president. Let me feed you."

"I'm not a child…" Ying Chanxi protested, but as Li Luo tilted the bottle, she obediently drank a few sips.

The next second, the drink pulled away, and she was pressed against the wall, a portion of the drink in her mouth snatched by Li Luo.

Her cheeks flushed from his kiss, she panted heavily; after he finished, she nestled against him, whispering, "Be careful—a teacher might come. What if they see us?"

"Say we're discussing student union matters."

"What kind of discussion requires this?" Ying Chanxi glared at him, blushing.

This shy, coquettish charm only stoked Li Luo's primal urge—he sealed her lips again.

Minutes later, they emerged from the meeting room and went to the playground to inspect the uniform distribution.

After confirming everything was fine, Ying Chanxi handed over duties to the vice principal and announced to the student union members that the day was over—they could all go home.

On the way home, Ying Chanxi asked curiously, "Where's your dorm?"

"That dorm building's called Qingxi, right? She's in Building 3, Room 213," Li Luo recalled, then smiled at Ying Chanxi. "That name suits you."

"Hmph," Ying Chanxi's lips curled up—she thought the "xi" in the name was indeed pleasant. "Won't it be our turn next year?"

"True," Li Luo nodded. "Let Youyu spend a year there first. Next year, Qianjiang University will be ours!"

"Don't make it sound like you're ascending the throne," Ying Chanxi rolled her eyes.

Li Luo laughed and patted her shoulder. "Next year, the top scorer in Qianjiang Province skips Tsinghua and Peking University to come to Qianjiang University—aren't you ascending the throne?"

"What are you talking about?" Ying Chanxi punched him lightly. "You're already lending me the title of top scorer before I've even passed the exam? What if I don't get it?"

"What if you don't get it?" Li Luo paused, then sighed deeply, grasped her hand, and feigned helplessness. "Then I'll just have to step in myself."

"Always talking big," Ying Chanxi smirked, huffing. "First beat me in an exam."

"Isn't that inevitable?" Li Luo chuckled. "Since freshman year, I've climbed at least a hundred or two hundred spots. What about you? Two years stuck in place—aren't you embarrassed?"

"Hah, how dare you say that?" Ying Chanxi glanced sideways, too lazy to reply further.

"I'm only a few points behind you now," Li Luo snorted. "I'll surpass you eventually."

"Those few points are like a chasm," Ying Chanxi drew an invisible line between them—on academics, she still held her own pride.

But Li Luo simply reached out, crossed the line she'd drawn, pulled her into his arms, and smirked. "Where's this chasm? I can't feel it."

Then he immediately bent down and scooped her up.

Ying Chanxi, slight and small, was lifted effortlessly; she gasped midair and clutched his neck tightly.

When she came to her senses, she slapped his shoulder playfully, blushing. "Are you trying to scare me to death? Put me down!"

"Have you gained weight?" Li Luo weighed her in his arms, suspicious.

"No way!" Ying Chanxi panicked. "I've always been 92 jin—don't make things up!"

"Really?" Li Luo's lips curled as he kept walking, holding her. "Then I'll have to test again—maybe holding you longer will make you lighter."

Ying Chanxi instantly understood—he just wanted to hold her longer.

Her cheeks burned; being carried like this in her school uniform on the street made her uneasy.

When she noticed passersby staring, she buried her face in his chest and whispered, "Hurry up—everyone's watching."

"You're too heavy—I can't walk fast."

"Die die die!" Her tiny fists pounded him.

They played all the way from the affiliated No. 1 High School gate back to Bihai Lanting.

At the community entrance, they met Lin Xiuhong, who was coming to cook for them.

Seeing Lin Yi's gaze, Ying Chanxi was instantly overwhelmed with embarrassment, struggled out of Li Luo's arms, and blushing furiously greeted Lin Xiuhong as she approached.

"Lín… Lin Yi…"

Lin Xiuhong chuckled and responded, saying nothing, leading the two of them into the residential complex.

But Li Luo, unnecessarily, cleared his throat and explained: "She twisted her ankle just now, so…" "Got it, got it," Lin Xiuhong waved her hand. "I didn't even ask."

Ying Chanxi followed beside them, quietly stepping on Li Luo's foot, letting out a silent huff, then hurried to catch up with Lin Xiuhong ahead, linking arms with Lin Yi and whispering softly to her.

Lin Xiuhong smiled warmly in reply, leaning close to whisper with Ying Chanxi, leaving Li Luo behind the two women.

When they reached the building entrance, Li Luo suddenly remembered something, reached into his pocket, pulled out a set of car keys, and called out to Lin Xiuhong ahead: "Mom, here, take this."

"What's this?" Lin Xiuhong frowned, turned her head to look, then reached out to take it. "This is…"

"Xu Youyu's car keys," Li Luo said. "She said she hardly ever uses the car, so she let you borrow it for now."

"Why didn't she give them to Aunt Cui?" Ying Chanxi asked, puzzled.

"I don't know," Li Luo shrugged with a smile.

"Heh, this was agreed upon earlier," Lin Xiuhong sighed with a wry smile, surprised that Xu Youyu had actually handed over the keys. "Either way, you'll both be using it together—it's more convenient having a car."

"Try it out first," Li Luo smiled. "If you like it, I'll buy you one too."

No error in content at all!

"Buy what? Better save that money," Lin Xiuhong gave him a look. "Isn't your father's car enough? Don't waste money."

"It's only three or forty thousand."

"That's still money!" Lin Xiuhong glared at him. "Don't spend what's unnecessary—we're doing fine now. Don't always think about spending big."

"Alright, alright," Li Luo nodded obediently and said no more.

Elders were always like this—he didn't bother correcting them.

After all, Xu Youyu rarely used the car; the BMW sat idle anyway. Letting Mom and Aunt Cui use it was fine—it was enough.

There was truly no need to buy a new car in the short term.

Worst case, when he got his driver's license at year's end, he'd buy a new car first, then swap it for another when he entered university, leaving the old one for Mom.

As he thought this, the three had already reached the upper floor.

As soon as they entered the apartment, they faintly heard piano music coming from the practice room.

With the new semester approaching, Yan Zhusheng was preparing for the provincial arts exam, and lately had been practicing piano more often.

She also had a private teacher specially hired by Yuan Wanqing, and had to attend extra lessons.

But since childhood, she'd been grounded in solid fundamentals, so her arts exam results weren't something to worry about.

After entering, Ying Chanxi went to the kitchen to help Lin Xiuhong cook, while Li Luo washed some fruit, placed it on a tray, and carried it into the piano room.

Yan Zhusheng was still playing, completely absorbed, her slender fingers dancing across the keys, not even glancing at Li Luo.

Only after finishing the piece did she close her eyes for a moment to savor it, then open them—her bright, sparkling eyes finally turned to Li Luo.

"I want to eat," she raised her hand, pointing at the fruit Li Luo had set aside.

Li Luo understood her meaning immediately, picked up a grape, and fed it directly into her mouth, then placed his hand beneath her lips to catch the peel as she spat it out.

"Mom and XiXi are cooking. Keep practicing. I'll call you when dinner's ready."

"Mm," Yan Zhusheng nodded obediently, but didn't resume playing. Instead, she asked, "Where's Senior?"

"She's checked in. Living on campus now."

"So she won't come back at all anymore?" Yan Zhusheng blinked, asking again.

"She'll still come back on weekends, I think," Li Luo guessed. "And dorm rules aren't that strict—once basic training ends, she can come back anytime."

After all, Bihai Lanting and Qianjiang University's dormitory zones were separated by only one street—walking took no more than ten or so minutes.

Yan Zhusheng chatted with Li Luo for a while, finished all the grapes, then pulled him to the piano bench.

"Aren't you practicing anymore?"

"I've practiced enough today," Yan Zhusheng said. "Now it's your turn."

"Is that so?" Li Luo chuckled. "Then, Teacher Yan, teach me."

…

After dinner, Lin Xiuhong left.

Ying Chanxi and Yan Zhusheng stood up to clear the table and went to the kitchen to wash dishes.

Li Luo picked up the cups Ying Chanxi and Yan Zhusheng had given him: XiXi's cup for water, Yan Zhusheng's for milk.

He sat at his desk, turned on the computer to start writing, then received a message from Xu Youyu.

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: What are you doing?

【Chongran】: Just finished dinner, about to start writing. What about you?

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: We're in a class meeting. Kinda boring.

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: We went to a Sichuan-Chongqing hot pot place—the owner gave us a free meal. Don't forget to thank your dad.

【Chongran】: Why thank him for that?

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: Oh, and we also went to your uncle's milk tea shop—he gave us free drinks too.

【Chongran】: Did your roommates say anything?

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: They asked if you bought the whole street. Hahaha~

【Chongran】: Not the whole street, but there is another shop—looks like it was rented out a few days ago. A fruit store, I think.

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: Can you get free stuff there too?

【Chongran】: Probably not…

【Chongran】: By the way, do you start military training tomorrow?

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: Yeah, we're just going over the rules now. I signed up for the political work team and got selected~ Starting the day after tomorrow, I'll only train half a day.

【Chongran】: How many people in your class?

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: 27, what's wrong?

【Chongran】: Are there many guys?

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: How many guys are there in the College of Literature? There are only five boys in our class.

【Chongran】: Then I'm relieved.

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: Hmph? Worried I'll be snatched away by someone else?

【Chongran】: Who dares? Look who your boyfriend is—I'm a second-year senior from the Computer Science Department!

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: Wait till next year, when they find out you're a freshman—see how you explain it.

【Chongran】: I'll say you, Fish Sister, are an old cow eating tender grass, and you were too embarrassed to admit it, so you forced me to say I'm a second-year.

【SleepEarlyGrowTall】: I think you're asking for a beating!
