Chapter 678: The Mosquito Bites You, You Bite Me

~12 min read 2,277 words

The class meeting for Humanities Class 1 ended smoothly at around 8:30 p. m.

Jian Chun asked students who wanted to run for class committee positions to stay behind and come to her office later, while everyone else could disperse and return to their dorms to rest.

Li Luo had originally planned to head straight back to the dorm with his roommates, but Jian Chun called out to him.

"Li Luo, wait a moment."

His roommates assumed it was because of Li Luo's celebrity status that the counselor had detained him, so they didn't think much of it; after a wave from Li Luo, the three of them left the classroom and returned to the dorm.

"Auntie, what else do you need?" Li Luo said, following Jian Chun out of the classroom with a look of resignation.

"Come with me to the office—I have something to discuss with you," Jian Chun said with a smile. "How about that? Surprised?"

"That's definitely a surprise," Li Luo rolled his eyes, then glanced at Xu Youyu, who had just caught up. "You really kept it under wraps, Youyu."

"Auntie told me not to say anything, and I wanted to give you a surprise too, so here we are," Xu Youyu said cheerfully beside her.

"Stop calling me auntie," Jian Chun blushed slightly and whispered, "At school, call me Teacher."

"So outside school, I'm supposed to call you auntie, right?" Li Luo raised an eyebrow.

Jian Chun said nothing, only quickened her pace—her silence was confirmation enough.

Li Luo followed behind, chuckling; his mood was surprisingly good.

Judging by this, was his uncle finally going to get married?

Jian Chun had just graduated with her master's this year and, with Xu Rongsheng's recommendation, successfully secured a position as counselor for this year's freshman class in the College of Humanities, responsible for the daily affairs of four classes.

Although her monthly salary wasn't particularly high, it was at least a stable job—far better than what most other humanities graduates could expect.

Jian Chun's plan was to diligently fulfill her duties as counselor and, with Xu Rongsheng's help, strive to climb the administrative ladder within the university.

At the same time, she was preparing for the civil service exam; if she could pass, that would be ideal.

As a master's graduate from Xu Rongsheng's cohort and the girlfriend of Li Luo's uncle, she had at least some minor connections.

As long as she worked hard, her path upward would be relatively smooth.

"So why did you call me to the office?" Li Luo followed Jian Chun into the counselor's office on the fourth floor, where over a dozen students waiting to run for class committee positions lingered outside.

"Well…" Jian Chun smiled awkwardly. "You know, this is my first year as counselor—I'm still unfamiliar with many things."

"So since you're familiar with this class, I was wondering… could you be our class president?"

"You were class president for all three years of high school, right? You must have plenty of experience."

Li Luo's expression turned weary: "Auntie…"

"Call me Teacher."

"Teacher Jian… I still have to write novels regularly."

"Didn't you write novels in high school too? University workload is lighter than high school, and your duties won't be that heavy."

"Mainly because it's a hassle," Li Luo coughed. "You know—Chanxi, Zhusheng, and Youyu… yeah, I'm pretty busy."

Jian Chun: "…"

Hearing this directly from her, Jian Chun was at a loss for words—a retort stuck in her throat, neither to be spat out nor swallowed.

"But your uncle recommended I ask you for help," Jian Chun finally pulled out her trump card. "I thought maybe you could help ease some of my burden?"

"Teacher Jian…"

"Just call me auntie."

"... Fine," Li Luo said, half-laughing, half-resigned, and nodded. "For the sake of this auntie, I'll take the position."

Since he had a rare chance to see his uncle finally get married, Li Luo didn't mind lending a hand.

"Thank you so much," Jian Chun beamed, pulling him to sit beside her on the sofa. "You sit here while I call the others in one by one to discuss committee roles."

"Just listen carefully and see who stands out."

"Then pick whoever you like best to be on the committee—how's that?"

Li Luo nodded, though his expression was odd: "Feels like I'm the counselor now."

Jian Chun gave him a look, said nothing more, walked to the office door, and called out to the waiting students: "Come in one by one, in order."

…

Half an hour passed quickly.

The dozen or so students who had come to run for committee positions finished their interviews with Jian Chun and departed one by one.

It had to be said—after entering university, girls seemed far more proactive than boys in these matters.

Although Humanities Class 1's gender ratio was already 3:7, of the eleven students who came to run for committee positions, all except one boy running for sports committee member were girls.

"What do you think?" Jian Chun handed Li Luo her notebook with her notes. "I think Cao Yue is good, Song Sijie speaks with clear logic, and Wu Xuanyi has a great personality."

"Auntie, you're letting me fully decide the committee appointments, right?" Li Luo asked.

"Of course—you have a preference?"

"Then it's settled," Li Luo took the notebook from her and began circling names. "Liang Yuling as vice president, Song Sijie as Youth League secretary, Cao Yue as life committee member, Wu Xuanyi as organization committee member, Chi Lingfeng as sports committee member…"

After listing his entire arrangement, Li Luo returned the notebook to Jian Chun: "How's this?"

Jian Chun scanned it; aside from the vice president pick, everything else matched her own thoughts almost exactly.

"Why pick Liang Yuling as vice president?" Jian Chun asked curiously. "You're not just choosing her because she's pretty, are you?"

"How pretty could she be compared to mine?"

"That's such a line you deserve to get punched," Jian Chun finally couldn't hold back.

"Cough… anyway, that's how it is—if later you think someone's unsuitable, you can always swap them out."

"Alright, I'll go with your judgment," Jian Chun said, not pressing further.

"Auntie, can I go now?"

"Mm, go ahead—I'll leave a bit later."

Li Luo stood, nodded, and stepped out of the office—only to see Xu Youyu and Lin Xiu sitting on the chairs along the hallway outside.

As the two were chatting, Lin Xiu saw Li Luo come out and grinned, "Done with your business?"

"Just finished," Li Luo rolled his eyes at his uncle, "Thanks a lot for the surprise."

"Just tell me if it counts," Lin Xiu laughed loudly, clapping Li Luo on the shoulder. "I even got you appointed as class monitor—how good am I to you?"

"Well, thanks so much…" Li Luo sighed. "Auntie's done too. Go keep her company. I'm leaving with Youyu."

"Alright, go ahead."

"When's your wedding banquet gonna be?" Li Luo suddenly asked.

"Cough… cough…" Lin Xiu flushed slightly but leaned close to Li Luo's ear and whispered, "Soon, soon—once her job stabilizes."

Li Luo raised an eyebrow—clearly things were progressing. He nodded with a smile, waved goodbye to his uncle, and left the administrative building with Xu Youyu.

"How was it?" On the way back to the dorm, Xu Youyu bounced behind him, hands clasped behind her back, grinning. "Had a good day?"

"Great. Absolutely fantastic," Li Luo gave her a dry laugh. "I wondered why you've been so busy these past two days—even though I was right here in the dorm, you never came to see me. Turns out you're the class assistant now."

"You weren't exactly idle either," Xu Youyu huffed. "Who was it that told his roommate he was going to meet his girlfriend? Almost got me exposed."

"What?"

"When I got to the classroom and asked your roommate where you were, he said you went to meet your girlfriend," Xu Youyu gave him a scolding look. "If I hadn't smoothly covered for you, your reputation as a jerk would've been ruined!"

"Cough… I didn't lie, though."

"How dare you say that?" Xu Youyu punched him. "Cheating behind my back and relying on your official girlfriend to cover for you—you're really something."

"How about I make it up to you?" Li Luo grabbed her fist, pulled her close, and kissed her.

"What are you doing~?" Xu Youyu pouted in his arms, tried to pull away, but he yanked her back.

They playfully wrestled, laughing, and without realizing it, began walking forward hand in hand.

"So, did you go see Xixi or Zhusheng this afternoon?"

"I took Xixi for a walk around campus," Li Luo admitted. "Then we went to Ningshan Park."

"Huh? You went to Ningshan Park too?" Xu Youyu raised an eyebrow, smirking. "Did you two do something naughty there?"

"Do you think everyone's like you?" Li Luo laughed. "Xixi's way more well-behaved than you."

"Is that so?" Xu Youyu pulled Li Luo along Ningshan Avenue, then hurried into Qingxi Dormitory and immediately headed toward Ningshan Park. "Then let me show you what a wild girlfriend really is."

"Hey, it's already nine—still going?" Li Luo let her drag him past the entrances of Qingxi Building 2 and 3 without stopping.

"It's only nine. Dorms close at eleven—still early," Xu Youyu grinned. "Scared? I won't eat you."

"I'm not scared you'll eat me."

"Then I won't hold back."

As Xu Youyu dragged him into Ningshan Park, Li Luo noticed couples scattered on benches here and there, and felt a little embarrassed.

But Xu Youyu had already pulled him into a secluded little grove, pinned him against a tree trunk.

…

More than an hour later, they emerged from the grove and left Ningshan Park.

On the way back to the dorm, Xu Youyu rubbed her elbow, lifted her skirt to rub her thigh, then pulled up her shirt to rub her lower back, gritting her teeth: "Why are there so many mosquitoes? I should've brought some Hualu Shui."

"Really?" Li Luo blinked, looked at his arms, then asked curiously, "I didn't feel any mosquitoes at all."

"No mosquitoes bit you?" Xu Youyu widened her eyes, scanning him up and down, incredulous. "Why? Why do mosquitoes bite me but not you?!"

"Maybe they think your blood tastes better?" Li Luo chuckled.

"Unfair!" Xu Youyu fumed. "Aren't only female mosquitoes the ones that bite? Why don't they bite you?!"

"I think it's fair," Li Luo grinned mischievously. "Mosquitoes bite you, you bite me—perfectly balanced."

"How can you say that?" Xu Youyu rolled her eyes. "Come on, let's go—I'm going to apply Hualu Shui."

"Mm. Goodnight."

"Goodnight~"

Watching Xu Youyu sprint back toward Qingxi Building 3, Li Luo turned and entered Building 2, quickly returning to Room 310.

No sooner had he stepped inside than Wen Zexuan, lying on his bed, loudly recited:

"The woman wore a sheer silk gown, elegant and refined like a lady of noble birth, yet also seductive and alluring like no ordinary woman."

"Her shoulders were half-bared, her neck long and graceful; her corset was covered by a thin layer of pink gauze, the contours of her chest barely visible."

"The moment he entered her chamber, his gaze trailed along the expensive silk carpet before him."

"Stop! Stop! Stop!" Li Luo broke out in goosebumps and shouted.

But Wen Zexuan ignored him, suppressing his laughter and continuing to read aloud:

"The carpet was embroidered with lotus flowers and auspicious clouds. The woman glided forward, took his wrist, and led him to a small couch before the screen."

"On it lay a phoenix-tail qin. She plucked a note with one hand, while the other guided his warm palm onto her thigh, hidden beneath her skirt."

"The thin gauze gradually slipped to the floor, revealing skin like congealed jade; their eyes met, and she lowered her head slightly, lips curved in a shy smile."

"You damn—!" Li Luo turned beet red, scrambling onto their bed.

Seeing him flustered, Wen Zexuan finally stopped, laughing as he blocked him from climbing in: "You wrote all this yourself—what's wrong with me reading it?"

"If you want to read it, read it yourself—don't read it out loud in front of me!" Li Luo let him off the hook now that he'd stopped, grumbling.

"I'm reading it right now," Wen Zexuan grinned. "Honestly, anyone who got into our Literature Department has decent writing—this is spicy but not vulgar, really chewy."

"Crude," Bai Haoran muttered from his bed.

"Seems kinda interesting," Cheng Xin added from his own bed. "I've only read a few chapters—I've never read an Online Novel before, but the story's pretty fresh."

Both were reading Night Watch of Great Qian, since the book was currently hot and had a much wider audience than I Am Really Not a Star; a quick search for Chongran put it at the top.

And just from the title alone, Night Watch of Great Qian appealed more to their tastes.

"Alright, alright—no more reading aloud in the dorm," Li Luo warned. "I'm the class monitor now. Cross me, and I'll make your life hell."

"What?" Wen Zexuan leaned forward, astonished. "How'd you become class monitor?"

"There's no way around it." Li Luo shrugged helplessly. "The counselor insisted I become class monitor—I'm just as troubled by it."

"Keep dreaming." Wen Zexuan rolled his eyes, utterly unconvinced. "But now that you're class monitor, if we want to slack off during military training, can we cut some corners?"

"That depends on your attitude," Li Luo chuckled.

"Cough... Class Monitor my lord, I was wrong just now—I apologize to you here~"
