Chapter 821: Ying Zhicheng: Room Inspection!

~7 min read 1,206 words

"Sister, you're so mean—you promised you'd sleep in your own room tonight, but you snuck over anyway."

The room was dark, no lights on; before Yan Zhusheng even reached the bed, her voice had already reached their ears.

Hearing her little sister's voice, Ying Chanxi let out a soft whimper in Li Luo's arms: "How can you even blame me? At least my room connects to a walk-in closet and the master bedroom—what about you? You came over too."

"I'm here to check the rooms." After reaching the bed, moonlight fell on Yan Zhusheng's cheek; Li Luo saw her serious expression. "I caught you red-handed—sister, go back to your own room."

"No." Ying Chanxi had grown bold now, clinging tightly to Li Luo. "I've come this far—I'm not going back. If you're just checking rooms, finish up and go back to sleep."

"That won't work," Yan Zhusheng shook her head. "Mom and Dad are staying here tonight—what if they come up?"

"Impossible," Ying Chanxi immediately shook her head. "They sleep on the first floor—why would they come up to the third floor at this hour? We just need to wake up normally tomorrow; they'll never find out."

"Since you say that, I'm not leaving either." Yan Zhusheng spoke as she climbed onto the bed, pulling Li Luo's arm and snuggling into his other side, making him wrap his arms around her.

"Still pretending you're checking rooms?" Ying Chanxi scoffed. "If you just want to sleep together, say so outright—no need to hide it."

"I'm just worried Li Luo might feel lonely," Yan Zhusheng blinked, telling a lie. "This bed is so big—it's better with more people."

Li Luo listened to the two girls bickering in his arms, saying nothing, simply enjoying the embrace on both sides; occasionally his hands wandered slightly, and he felt utterly content.

But before the sisters had argued long, the master bedroom door was gently pushed open again.

"Huh? So you're all here?"

Xu Youyu's soft laugh came from the doorway, then she quickly approached the bed, grinning. "You two are naughty—sneaking off like this."

"Aren't you the same?" Ying Chanxi felt Xu Youyu pressing against her back, and puffed out her cheeks with a huff.

"Hehe." Xu Youyu wasn't the least embarrassed; she wrapped her arms around Ying Chanxi from behind, her hand already wandering unsteadily toward Li Luo's waistband. "This bedroom's too big—sleeping alone feels weird, so I just came to squeeze in with you two."

Li Luo's breath hitched, then he fell even quieter, slightly lifting his knees to make Xu Youyu's hand less obvious beneath the covers.

Originally, they'd all agreed to sleep in their own rooms—but in the end, it became one big bed for all.

Li Luo found this situation utterly helpless.

If he'd known, he should've just given them all one master bedroom and repurposed the other three rooms.

But thinking he still had to deal with the elders' visits just in case, he only thought it in his mind.

Hmm… once he'd settled things with the elders, when their lives were truly stable and they had children, those three rooms could be for the kids…

Li Luo imagined the future in his mind.

And right now.

In the guest room downstairs.

Ying Zhicheng lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep.

Next to him, Yuan Wanqing, having finished her face mask and ready for bed, was worn down by his restlessness. "Are you just bad at sleeping in new places? You drank a lot tonight—still can't sleep?"

"Can you sleep?" Ying Zhicheng turned to look at Yuan Wanqing. "Right now, Zhusheng and Xixi might be lying in the same bed as Li Luo."

Hearing this, Yuan Wanqing nearly lost her composure.

"What can you do about it? Go up and drag Xixi and Zhusheng out?"

"I just feel awful," Ying Zhicheng muttered, growing more restless the more he thought, sighing heavily several times. "You don't understand."

"Earlier today, when I went to the bathroom—I found the fourth-floor restroom occupied, so I went to the third floor, and happened to walk into Li Luo's bedroom."

"That bed in his master bedroom—it's several meters wide! It's clearly designed for left-arm-right-arm, one-big-blanket sleep!"

"Tell me—isn't that outrageous?"

"He's already stolen our two precious daughters—but now he's even thinking, thinking…"

By the end, Ying Zhicheng couldn't even say the words.

Yuan Wanqing filled in for him: "One dragon, two phoenixes, right?"

Ying Zhicheng: "…Can you not say that out loud? It makes me feel even worse."

"But Zhusheng said she hasn't done it with Li Luo yet," Yuan Wanqing blinked, reminding him. "If she had, she'd definitely tell me—she never hides anything from me on this front."

Hearing this, Ying Zhicheng felt even worse.

"Then why won't Xixi tell me?" Ying Zhicheng sighed again, feeling like white hairs were sprouting.

"Dad and Mom are different," Yuan Wanqing quickly comforted him. "It's a private matter—daughters naturally talk more easily with their mothers. It's normal for Xixi not to tell you."

Ying Zhicheng lay in bed, wiping his face.

After years of work and serving as general manager, he'd long mastered the art of hiding his emotions.

But when it came to his daughters' lifelong happiness, he found himself unusually unable to control his feelings.

Today, he'd already broken down many times.

"Maybe I haven't cared enough for her…" Ying Zhicheng sighed softly, feeling like an inadequate father.

Then, suddenly, he had an idea. He turned to Yuan Wanqing: "Should I go up and talk to Xixi? It's our first night in the new house—I could use that as an excuse to have a heart-to-heart. What do you think?"

Yuan Wanqing sighed and rubbed her forehead: "…Are you sure you want to go up now? It's almost eleven."

"Isn't it still early?"

"But…" Yuan Wanqing, seeing he was wavering, couldn't help warning him: "What if you go up and catch Li Luo and Xixi… in the middle of… that… what then?"

The moment those words fell, it exploded in Ying Zhicheng's mind like a bomb—he fell completely silent.

Merely imagining that scene made him clench his fists.

But thinking that he was sleeping downstairs while his precious daughter was upstairs being taken advantage of by Li Luo—he couldn't bear it.

"No—now that you said that, I absolutely have to go up!"

Ying Zhicheng sat bolt upright, unable to suppress the indescribable emotion inside him.

Was it anger? Not quite. Jealousy or envy? Not exactly that either.

It was just the stubborn, tangled feeling of a father—hard to explain.

But after rolling out of bed, he didn't rush to the door. Instead, he paced back and forth beside the bed, muttering to himself:

"I'll go up first, knock on Xixi's door, and say I need to talk to her."

If she sleeps alone in the bedroom with no one else around, I'll go talk to her.

If she's with Li Luo but they're not doing anything, I can still call her out for a chat.

If… uh… then I won't disturb them—I'll just go down straight away and leave them be!

Yuan Wanqing lay in bed, listening to Yin Zhicheng ramble on for a long while, and suddenly felt speechless.
