Chapter 30: A Blind Date Encounter with Officer Du!

~9 min read 1,709 words

The next day was Saturday.

Tang Ye had stayed up late the night before preparing some materials and didn't get up until after nine o'clock.

Qin Lan had breakfast ready; Tang Ye put the cold porridge into the microwave to heat it up and read the newspaper while he ate.

There was no report in the newspaper about Aiou Electric investing and building a factory in Pinghu; news was not expected until Monday.

A "whoosh" sound came from his mobile phone.

Tang Ye opened it to take a look; it was a message from Du Xi: "Do you have time this weekend? I want to hear you sing your signature song, 'Xiu Hongqi'."

Tang Ye hadn't expected Du Xi to still remember that. "I'll book a private room and send you the location and room number later."

"Just the two of us?"

Tang Ye replied: "Just the two of us will sing our throats hoarse. I'll call Sun Hai; he's a karaoke king and won't let the atmosphere go cold. You can invite a female friend."

"I have a colleague who likes to sing; you've met her."

Tang Ye thought of that girl with the big face and fiery personality; maybe Sun Hai would like her. "Then we'll see you tonight."

Seeing that Tang Ye agreed, a smile appeared at the corners of Du Xi's mouth.

Not long after hanging up the phone, Qin Lan came home carrying a vegetable basket.

Qin Lan saw Tang Ye lying lazily on the sofa scratching his feet and didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "You are a Deputy Town Mayor, after all; can you at least try to look presentable?"

Tang Ye said nonchalantly, "It's a rare weekend; one should relax when it's time to relax."

Qin Lan walked over to Tang Ye, grabbed his ear, and headed toward his room. "Hurry up and change your clothes for me; after lunch, go to Lan Dao Ka Fei Ting to meet a girl."

Qin Lan knew her son very well: when it was time to take action, she should take action immediately and never try to talk him into it.

"Ouch, ouch, ouch!"

Tang Ye feigned pain and ducked into his room. Once Qin Lan went to the kitchen, a smile appeared on his face, and he hummed a tune while changing into a T-shirt and jeans.

After finishing his meal, Tang Ye arrived at Lan Dao Ka Fei Ting and waited for half an hour before his blind date finally arrived.

"Sorry, have I kept you waiting long?" The blind date was two years younger than Tang Ye, worked at a bank, and her parents were both in the system.

She didn't explain the reason.

In her view, it was only natural for a girl to make a boy wait.

"It's fine. What would you like to drink? Shall I order you a coffee?" Tang Ye didn't ask the reason for her lateness either and beckoned to the waiter.

The blind date shook her head and said, "No need. Let's just sit for a while and chat a bit. If we're a good match, we'll spend some time together; if not, then we won't be in contact anymore."

Tang Ye hadn't expected the other party to be so decisive and couldn't help but laugh. "You have quite a personality."

The blind date smiled faintly. "According to the matchmaker, you are a civil servant. May I know your salary?"

Tang Ye told her the truth. "About two or three thousand a month, I suppose!"

A look of disappointment appeared in the blind date's eyes, and she continued to probe, "Then there must be hidden income, right?"

Tang Ye shook his head with a bitter smile. "No. You have a misunderstanding about civil servants."

A look of disbelief appeared in the blind date's eyes. "I have a colleague whose husband works at the Tax Bureau. He doesn't even have to touch his salary; he hands over three hundred yuan to her every day."

Tang Ye said earnestly, "I suggest you stay away from this colleague. To be so flashy about family secrets is too thoughtless; she shouldn't be surprised if something goes wrong."

"You aren't wearing a wig, are you?"

Tang Ye didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Do you want to pull on it and see?"

"No, no! Can you stand up? The matchmaker said you were one meter eighty-five, but I don't think you're that tall."

Tang Ye stood up immediately, took two steps, and sat back down. "The matchmaker lied; I'm one meter eighty-one. How about it? My walking posture is fine, right? I'm not a cripple!"

The blind date stared at Tang Ye and looked him up and down. "You're quite easy on the eyes, and your personality isn't bad. Shall we exchange contact information?"

Tang Ye shook his head, feeling listless. "Forget it; I don't have the ability to hand over three hundred a day."

The blind date was stunned for a moment, snorted, picked up her handbag, and left decisively.

Before she had even walked out the door, she picked up her phone, dialed a number, and started complaining, "Auntie, what kind of person did you introduce to me? He speaks very aggressively and acts as if he's something special. Don't introduce such people to me again in the future."

Tang Ye's gaze turned toward a seat in the southwest corner.

That was also a blind date setup.

A man in a suit stood up abruptly and left, looking dejected.

Immediately after, the girl sitting opposite him walked toward Tang Ye.

The girl was wearing a white dress with a pink belt at the waist, which displayed her slender figure; the fabric had small silver flowers, making her look pure and elegant.

She wore white leather shoes that exposed the tops of her feet, and her long, straight calves were exposed to the air, as round and tender as lotus roots.

She gave off a pure and noble aura.

"I didn't expect such a coincidence." Du Xi looked at Tang Ye with a smile.

"Old classmate, I've suffered a defeat in love; would you do me the honor of keeping me company for a cup of coffee?"

Du Xi covered her mouth and laughed. "That miserable? Did the other party not even drink coffee?"

Tang Ye sighed helplessly. "She asked me how much I earned right off the bat. I said two or three thousand, and she started asking me if I had any gray income."

Du Xi frowned in surprise. "How could she be like that!"

Tang Ye asked with a smile, "What about yours? It looked like you scared him away..."

Du Xi glared at Tang Ye and explained patiently, "I told him the truth: I have no feelings for him."

Tang Ye couldn't help but laugh. "You're even more hurtful!"

Du Xi had her own ideas. "Since I don't like him, I shouldn't give the wrong signals, so as to avoid getting entangled."

Tang Ye grinned. "Free and easy! But, with this mindset, it's very difficult to find a suitable partner."

Du Xi said very seriously, "I have to find someone I like. If I just settle, that would be too painful."

One was too realistic.

One was too idealistic.

The coffee was served; Du Xi had ordered a latte.

Tang Ye took a sip of his Americano, his mouth full of bitterness, and remarked, "You've changed quite a bit; you didn't like to talk before."

Du Xi recalled scenes from high school, "People, after all, always change; you've changed a lot too!"

Tang Ye joked, "Yeah, we both belong to the late-bloomer type; we've grown quite a bit now!"

It took a moment for Du Xi to react, and she glared at Tang Ye with annoyance, "You're as full of nonsense as ever."

Tang Ye was just about to try and steer the conversation back.

Suddenly, Du Xi's expression turned serious; she quickly rose from her seat and chased out toward the entrance.

"They're snatching a child!"

"Can someone help me!"

The woman standing in the middle of the road collapsed to the ground, calling for help in a daze.

A man wearing a baseball cap was covering a little girl's mouth with a white towel while sprinting toward the four-way intersection.

A pickup truck was parked at the intersection with its side door open, waiting for the man to get in.

Driven by professional instinct, Du Xi reacted immediately.

"That's a human trafficker!"

Tang Ye stepped outside and saw a middle-aged man standing stunned on the spot, holding a vintage bicycle; he grabbed the handlebars from him, "Sorry, I'm borrowing this!"

Du Xi felt her high heels were in the way and was preparing to take them off to give chase barefoot.

She only heard the sound of a bell ringing from behind.

Turning around, she saw Tang Ye pedaling past her.

The man instinctively looked behind him, his pupils instantly shrinking!

A young man was pedaling the vintage bicycle, charging straight toward him.

The young man's eyes were wide as copper bells, his hair blown upright by the wind, his expression full of rage, and he was letting out a roar like a wild beast.

"Stop right there!"

"Screech," the tires left a semi-circular blue mark on the ground.

Tang Ye kept one foot on the ground and one on the pedal, blocking the street with the bicycle and cutting off the other man's path.

The man was no pushover either; he pulled a half-foot-long switchblade from his pocket, "Get lost, or I'll stab you to death, you little brat."

"Watch out!"

Seeing this from afar, Du Xi broke into a cold sweat, terrified that Tang Ye might get hurt by the other man.

Tang Ye didn't give an inch, grabbing the vintage bicycle and swinging it toward the man.

The man's left leg was struck, and he was completely bewildered by Tang Ye's actions.

This young man was not only unafraid of death, but he was also incredibly fierce! "Data during the new book period is extremely important, everyone please add to your collections and comment, vote if you have tickets, and help boost the stats, thank you all!"
