Chapter 322: Because I Am Getting Married!
After returning to the office.
Tang Ye dialed Cao Zhengchun's number immediately.
"Director Cao, where have you arrived?"
"I am already downstairs."
According to the schedule, Cao Zhengchun was to provide a separate work report to Jiang Jing shortly.
He was already on his way.
Not long after hanging up, a knock sounded at the office door, and Cao Zhengchun arrived as promised.
Since the Mingsheng Group scandal, Tang Ye had keenly sensed a subtle shift in Cao Zhengchun's attitude toward him.
He knew in his heart that this change in attitude actually stemmed from a re-evaluation of Jiang Jing.
Previously, Cao Zhengchun had eyes only for Mayor Xiao Jingyu, but the iron-fisted approach Jiang Jing displayed in a series of events made him realize he could no longer stake all his chips on Xiao Jingyu.
Tang Ye had no direct conflict of interest with Cao Zhengchun, so his conversation remained as warm as usual.
"Section Chief Tang, your handling of the Hanxing Group really opened my eyes!" Cao Zhengchun was someone who had seen with his own eyes how Tang Ye turned the situation around.
If it weren't for Tang Ye inviting Zhang Chunshui and Huang Bihong.
Things would never have gone so smoothly.
"That was all Mayor Jiang's arrangement; I was merely executing it."
"I didn't expect Guo Yi to have embezzled so much money over all these years; a net worth of several hundred million is truly shocking."
"Guo Yi's family has already agreed to return a portion of the illicit funds, and with that, the workers' wages can be properly resolved."
"Section Chief Tang, now that the leadership team of Hanxing Group has been wiped out, who will take the helm next?" Cao Zhengchun probed for information in a bantering tone.
Tang Ye laughed at himself: "Director Cao, you think too highly of me. How could I know about such confidential matters?"
Upon hearing this, Cao Zhengchun revealed a meaningful smile: "Section Chief Tang, you are too modest."
Tang Ye just gave a faint smile and did not respond.
Although Hanxing Group was no longer as glorious as it once was, its billions in assets were still "fat meat" in everyone's eyes.
During this period, various factions were secretly active, pulling strings.
And as Jiang Jing's Secretary, he knew that Zhou Chengwu and Jiang Jing already had a candidate in mind.
Even if he knew it clearly, he had to keep his mouth shut—this was the bottom line of a secretary's work.
Cao Zhengchun walked into Jiang Jing's office with a face full of smiles, but came out looking gloomy.
It was obvious that Jiang Jing had severely criticized him.
As the end of the year approached, all departments were conducting work summaries.
The report submitted by the Municipal Finance Bureau was riddled with data loopholes, which made Jiang Jing burn with anger.
Tang Ye couldn't help but break into a cold sweat for Cao Zhengchun; if he continued to treat his work with such perfunctory attitudes, a personnel adjustment was likely not far off.
After Cao Zhengchun left.
Deputy Director of the Municipal Finance Bureau Gao Ping walked into the office.
Judging by Gao Ping's high-spirited appearance when he left, his work report had clearly received Jiang Jing's approval and encouragement.
"Section Chief Tang, do you have any time recently to check out the Trade Union activities organized by our unit?"
"If I have time, I will definitely attend!"
Tang Ye asked Gao Ping to stay for tea.
Gao Ping accepted gladly.
Seeing that he had an opportunity to rise, Gao Ping knew there would inevitably be many places where they would need to deal with each other in the future, so Tang Ye chatted with him for a long time.
As for Gao Ping, his attitude toward Tang Ye was extremely cordial.
He knew Tang Ye's status in Mayor Jiang's heart.
Although he knew he was a pawn cultivated by Jiang Jing to compete with Cao Zhengchun, he clearly knew that this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him.
Gao Ping was two years older than Cao Zhengchun, and this was his last chance to strike for a top position in a municipal-level unit.
At the end of the workday, Tang Ye neatly organized his office items, picked up his briefcase, locked the door, and then knocked on the door of Jiang Jing's office: "Mayor Jiang, it is time to get off work."
"Hmm, there are still two documents in hand; wait for me to finish reading them."
Tang Ye walked to the desk with practiced ease and collected the unprocessed documents on the right side into Jiang Jing's briefcase one by one—these were materials Jiang Jing planned to study in the evening.
This was Jiang Jing's unshakeable work habit.
After organizing the briefcase, Tang Ye picked up the thermos and brewed a fresh pot of hot tea for Jiang Jing, so it would be convenient for her to drink in the car.
When the two went downstairs, the driver was already waiting at the designated spot.
Tang Ye thoughtfully opened the car door for Jiang Jing, then sat in the front passenger seat.
After the car started, Jiang Jing suddenly spoke: "In the future, if there is nothing urgent, you don't need to make a special trip to take me home. I don't know who set that rule; it's too much trouble."
Tang Ye quickly explained: "Mayor Jiang, this is not a bother at all. If you don't let me follow, it would actually put me in a difficult position. If others saw it, they would think I hadn't done my job as a secretary well and had made you dissatisfied."
"Some rules are indeed annoying." After hearing this, Jiang Jing did not insist further.
Since serving as Jiang Jing's Secretary, Tang Ye had always picked her up and dropped her off regardless of the weather.
Jiang Jing saw his diligent attitude in her eyes.
"By the way, the Broadcasting and Television Building project you mentioned last time has already been passed by the Municipal Party Committee Standing Committee. Secretary Zhou has great confidence in the innovative investment model, and the bidding is expected to start next spring," Jiang Jing said suddenly.
Tang Ye was startled; he had only mentioned it in passing and hadn't taken it to heart, but he hadn't expected Jiang Jing to keep it in mind.
This was the value of a secretary's work.
An inadvertent suggestion could often influence a leader's decision-making in a subtle way.
Upon returning home, Tang Ye received a call from Ding Xiang.
On the other end of the line, Ding Xiang could not hide her excitement: "Brother, I heard the Broadcasting and Television Building project has passed the Municipal Party Committee review! You've done me a huge favor!" Tang Ye quickly said with a smile: "That was all the decision of the City Leaders; as a Section-level Cadre, how could I have such great ability? Don't overestimate me."
Ding Xiang, however, became serious: "Don't be modest! Station Master Ma asked Director Feng about it; Mayor Jiang originally didn't support this project, and it only passed in the Standing Committee because Mayor Jiang pushed against all opposition. Mayor Jiang values it so much, isn't it because he was influenced by you? Station Master Ma wants to invite you to dinner to thank you properly."
Tang Ye politely declined: "I haven't earned any reward, so I won't be having that meal."
After a brief silence, Ding Xiang's tone became somewhat hesitant: "Brother, what if I want to invite you to dinner?"
Tang Ye was stunned for a moment: "Why, is there something else?"
Ding Xiang stopped beating around the bush: "To tell you the truth, the Provincial Television Station is currently selecting hosts from various cities for this year's Spring Festival Gala, and at the moment, Xiao Chen has a significant advantage. I would like to ask for your help; Station Master Ma has a say in this matter."
In the past, relying on her father's connections, this kind of opportunity would naturally have belonged to Ding Xiang.
But now, things have changed, and after her father passed away, she also lost her special channel.
Seeing that Tang Ye did not speak, Ding Xiang asked cautiously, "Brother, do you think I am too utilitarian?"
Tang Ye mused that Ding Xiang was very sensitive.
Of course, this was also human nature.
It showed that Ding Xiang had ambition.
"I'll see if I can find some time."
Ding Xiang breathed a sigh of relief, "Then I will wait for your notification."
Hanging up the phone, Ding Xiang felt that the request she had made to Tang Ye today was a bit excessive.
But, this was the only method she could think of right now.
Tang Ye mused that he truly had no time to participate in various social engagements.
