Chapter 323: A Wedding of Extremely High Quality!

~8 min read 1,462 words

On January 3, 2006, inside a restaurant next to the Hanzhou City Municipal Government, a low-key wedding was being quietly prepared.

As civil servants, Tang Ye and Du Chengfeng did not make a grand display.

The guest list consisted mainly of relatives from both sides; the clamor of official circles was absent, replaced by the warmth of a family gathering.

Inside the banquet hall, Li Guozheng had just taken his seat at the groom's side when Dean Lu and Qi Pingsheng arrived together.

After Tang Yu hurriedly settled the two of them, he was busy greeting other guests.

Once seated, Dean Lu couldn't help but remark, "This wedding is very low-key; the bride and groom combined have fewer than ten tables. Old Qi, when your son got married, I'm afraid you set up nearly fifty tables, right?"

Calling it low-key was, in fact, a way of saying it was shabby.

Qi Pingsheng nodded with a smile, "That's true. When I hosted guests back then, the whole family was mobilized. Old Tang, on the other hand, only invited one person per family; it certainly doesn't look very impressive."

Dean Lu pondered for a moment and explained, "There's nothing to be done about it. Tang Yu's son and daughter-in-law are both public officials, and the father-in-law is a leader in the Municipal Party Committee, so they have to be cautious in their actions to avoid giving people grounds for gossip."

Li Guozheng, however, curled his lip and said sourly, "If you ask me, if you're afraid of trouble, don't hold a wedding. Isn't the currently popular 'travel wedding' much simpler? In my opinion, Old Tang just has poor social connections."

Upon hearing this, Dean Lu looked at Li Guozheng in surprise, thinking to himself: Why is this guy so full of resentment?

If it weren't for Tang Yu's secret help, how could his daughter have successfully gone to the provincial level for further studies?

Qi Pingsheng, standing to the side, did not respond, but he also felt that Tang Yu was not socially adept enough, which was why he ended up with such thin connections.

At six in the evening, the guests arrived one after another.

A middle-aged man in a suit and leather shoes stepped into the hall, instantly attracting everyone's attention.

Tang Ye, with a large red flower pinned to his chest, walked quickly to meet him and shook his hand enthusiastically, "Mayor Jiang, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to come!"

The person who arrived was none other than Executive Vice Mayor Jiang Jing. He smiled and patted the back of Tang Ye's hand, "You look truly spirited today. Congratulations, congratulations!"

Tang Ye respectfully led Jiang Jing to the groom's main table. Seeing this, Qi Pingsheng whispered to Dean Lu, "This is Tang Ye's superior. He was previously recuperating at our hospital; it seems he has recovered well."

Dean Lu nodded, "That Mayor Jiang could attend in person shows that Tang Ye carries significant weight in his heart."

Just as everyone was whispering, Jiang Jing suddenly stood up and walked quickly toward the door.

A commotion broke out at the reception area, and Li Guozheng looked over curiously, "What big shot has arrived now?"

Dean Lu squinted his eyes, and after seeing who it was, his expression changed abruptly, "It's actually Municipal Party Secretary Zhou Chengwu!"

Qi Pingsheng also showed a look of surprise, "Tang Ye's father-in-law is the Secretary-General of the Municipal Party Committee. Given this relationship, it makes sense for Secretary Zhou to attend the wedding."

Li Guozheng, however, muttered sourly, "I wonder how much of a gift the Municipal Party Secretary will give?"

Dean Lu glanced at him, thinking to himself: Such a narrow perspective!

The mere fact that Secretary Zhou attended in person is enough to foresee Tang Ye's future career prospects; what does the amount of the gift money even matter?

However, what was even more shocking was that Zhou Chengwu walked straight toward the groom's main table and sat down beside Jiang Jing.

Qi Pingsheng asked in confusion, "Why is Secretary Zhou sitting at the groom's table? Could it be that Tang Ye invited him?"

Dean Lu figured out the reason and lowered his voice to explain, "The person next to Secretary Zhou is Hong Ruilin, the former Deputy Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, and also Secretary Zhou's mentor. And Tang Ye is Hong Ruilin's student. By that calculation, Zhou Chengwu is Tang Ye's senior fellow student, so it is natural for him to sit at the groom's table."

These words hit Li Guozheng like a heavy hammer, leaving him dumbfounded.

He never imagined that the Tang Family, whom he usually looked down upon, had quietly accumulated such deep connections.

Although the Tang Family's wedding didn't invite many guests, the quality was extremely high!

Qi Pingsheng said softly, "It is said that Zhou Chengwu never attends these kinds of events."

Dean Lu said thoughtfully, "Things are valued for their rarity."

Tang Yu's value is still rising!

In another corner of the banquet hall, Tang Yu's former colleagues from Neurosurgery sat around a table. Among them, several young female doctors were outstanding in appearance, drawing frequent glances from Du Xi's police colleagues.

Soon, the bold young men went over to strike up a conversation, and the atmosphere gradually became lively.

As the music started, Tang Ye, dressed in a crisp suit, stood in the center of the stage.

The lights went out, a spotlight shone on him, and another beam swept toward the banquet hall entrance.

The carved wooden doors slowly opened, and Du Xi, holding flowers and supported by her father Du Chengfeng, walked slowly forward.

Her eyes sparkled with happiness, and the look she gave Tang Ye was full of anticipation and love.

When Du Chengfeng gently placed his daughter's hand into Tang Ye's palm, the usually composed Secretary-General of the Municipal Party Committee couldn't help but have tears well up in his eyes.

"I am handing Du Xi over to you."

"Dad, please rest assured, I will definitely take good care of her."

Du Xi gave Du Chengfeng a hug, "Dad, thank you. For you and Mom, I will be very happy. You can rest easy."

Under the lights.

Du Xi and Tang Ye embraced, Tang Ye put the diamond ring on Du Xi, and the two kissed.

Liu Fang wiped her tears secretly and said to Sun Hai in a low voice, "It's so touching. I want a wedding like this too."

Sun Hai held Liu Fang's hand and promised dominantly, "When the time comes, I'll find the most expensive wedding planning company!"

The wedding officiating segment.

Hong Ruilin walked onto the stage with steady steps.

He put on his reading glasses, took out the carefully prepared officiating speech, and offered blessings to the newlyweds in a solemn official tone, pushing the wedding atmosphere to a climax.

The wedding host was Ma Laoshi, a well-known host from the City Television Station's news program.

Although he knew in advance that this wedding was of extraordinary scale, seeing the room full of City Leaders still made his scalp tingle.

Every word and every action was carefully considered, for fear of making the slightest mistake.

According to tradition, the wedding would have had a segment for teasing the father-in-law and daughter-in-law, but considering the special occasion, the host cleverly simplified it.

This seemingly low-key wedding actually contained many high-level elements that ordinary people could not imagine.

The network of connections hidden in the guest list had long since predicted the immeasurable future development of the Tang Family.

The entire wedding lasted until around ten o'clock.

Tang Ye and Du Xi stood at the door, respectfully seeing the guests off.

Du Chengfeng and Xiao Qin stood not far away, gazing tenderly at their daughter and son-in-law. The couple looked at each other, their eyes filled with unconcealable gratification and relief.

"Cheng Feng, our daughter has finally started a family," Xiao Qin said softly, her voice carrying a hint of a sob.

"You have worked hard all these years. It is you who raised Xi Xi to be so outstanding; truly, thank you."

Du Chengfeng gently took Xiao Qin's hand.

Feeling her husband's warmth, Xiao Qin silently rested her head on his shoulder.

At the same time, unable to control her emotions any longer, tears spilled from the corners of her eyes.

"Don't cry! If Old Tang and Qin Lan see this, there's no telling how smug they'll be!" Du Chengfeng hurriedly whispered to comfort her.

"That's right, the one giving away a daughter is sobbing uncontrollably, while the one gaining a daughter-in-law is bursting with joy. It has been like this since ancient times!" Xiao Qin said, feeling somewhat unreconciled.
