Chapter 84: Extreme Tug-of-War with Sister-in-Law!

~10 min read 1,834 words

For the entire morning, Tang Ye sat in his office.

He was studying the project proposal for the Northeast Chamber of Commerce and actually missed his lunch break.

It wasn't until Xu Qiao knocked and entered, placing a lunch box on his desk, that Tang Ye snapped out of it and realized he was famished.

Xu Qiao was dressed simply, but she was tall, and she could carry off even a plain work uniform with elegance; perhaps due to her change in position, she possessed a more capable and steady air than before.

Tang Ye opened the lunch box.

The main dish was chicken braised with edamame, and his appetite was instantly piqued.

He handed the project proposal to Xu Qiao.

"After you finish revising the materials, print them out."

Xu Qiao left the office with the materials; her current workload was much heavier.

But the days passed quickly, and she looked forward to work every day...

Tang Ye also intended to cultivate and improve Xu Qiao's professional abilities.

Xu Qiao was like a piece of unpolished jade.

It was unclear who started it, saying Xu Qiao was his apprentice; Xu Qiao tried calling Tang Ye "Master," and Tang Ye did not deny it, effectively tacitly accepting their relationship.

Xu Qiao could skillfully create high-quality PPTs and knew how to use software like PS to improve the quality of her work.

Tang Ye discovered that Xu Qiao had a natural aptitude and could focus her mind; given time, she could grow into a very good assistant.

At two in the afternoon, Tang Ye rushed from the town to the County Government.

He knocked on Wei Jian's office door with the project proposal in hand.

Behind the large desk, Wei Jian was looking down at a document, his brows knitted into a large knot; seeing Tang Ye enter the room, his expression brightened, and he leaned forward with a smile, beckoning, "Little Tang, you've arrived. Thank you for your hard work, please sit."

Tang Ye pulled out a chair and sat opposite Wei Jian.

Tang Ye was a Deputy Town Mayor, and Wei Jian was the leader in charge of government affairs.

Wei Jian had Wang Kaicheng pass on the message, requiring Tang Ye to bring the project proposal to report on his work.

Tang Ye had no choice but to come.

Wei Jian set the project proposal aside, "How is it? Has work been going smoothly lately? Have you encountered any difficulties?"

Wei Jian's words were full of concern; if an outsider were present, they would think Wei Jian and Tang Ye's relationship was extremely close.

Tang Ye smiled and shook his head, "Currently, the focus of my work is on maintaining stability before the holidays."

Wei Jian took a sip of tea, leaned back in his chair, and said indifferently, "You're right. With the end of the year approaching, the focus of our work lies in maintaining stability and unity, ensuring the common people have a peaceful and harmonious New Year. During this period, one must be especially mindful of production safety; there cannot be any major accidents."

Seeing that Wei Jian was delaying looking at the project proposal, Tang Ye smiled and reminded him, "Wei County Magistrate, regarding the project proposal for the five-star hotel to be built in Pinghu Town, I would appreciate it if you could review and vet it. If there are any shortcomings, I will revise them."

Wei Jian chuckled and glanced at the project proposal, "The cooperation project with the Northeast Chamber of Commerce is also a top priority, but unfortunately, some comrades in the County Party Committee have a passive attitude. I hope you cadres at the grassroots level also have a sense of the big picture and don't always engage in formalism, dragging good things into bad ones."

Tang Ye smiled; he understood in his heart that Wei Jian was reprimanding him!

At the Standing Committee meeting, Du Chengfeng had defied the majority and repeatedly overturned the plan.

Wei Jian had already been in contact with the Northeast Chamber of Commerce team privately and had even explicitly expressed his support while wining and dining.

He had thought it was a done deal, but he hadn't expected Du Chengfeng to become a stumbling block.

Wei Jian ordering Tang Ye to report on his work carried the intent of a reprimand.

Having achieved his goal, Wei Jian's attitude turned cold.

Tang Ye sensed the shift and took the initiative to excuse himself and leave.

Tang Ye had received the notice last night and had been pondering whether he could use the opportunity to communicate his ideas for the hotel project well with Wei Jian.

But at this moment, he no longer had any interest; he had overestimated Wei Jian's magnanimity.

After Tang Ye left, Wei Jian picked up the materials and looked at them carefully. Once he finished reading the project proposal, he stood in front of the map of Tianling County, pondered for a long while, picked up the desk phone, and called Government Office Director Zhu Ming, "Come to my office."

Zhu Ming quickly knocked and entered, his face full of smiles, "County Magistrate, what are your instructions?"

Wei Jian handed the project proposal to Zhu Ming, "Study this material and see if there are any problems."

Zhu Ming knew Wei Jian wanted to find flaws to attack Du Chengfeng at the Standing Committee meeting. He read it carefully and sighed, "There is a lot of data from other cities inside, and the viewpoints and conclusions are very clear; it is very difficult to find flaws."

"How long would it take you to write such material?"

Zhu Ming immediately broke into a cold sweat, "You know exactly what I'm capable of, don't you?"

Wei Jian smiled silently, picked up the project proposal, and placed it gently on the table, seemingly talking to himself, "He is indeed a talent, but it's a pity he cannot be used by me. Otherwise, he would be a good assistant."

Tang Ye did not know that the project proposal he had carefully prepared, although it did not receive Wei Jian's approval, was not used by Wei Jian as a weapon to attack Du Chengfeng at the Standing Committee meeting because of its rigorous logic and solid foundation.

Zhu Ming returned to his office, and his cell phone rang, a crisp and sweet voice coming from it.

"Director Zhu, I've booked a private room for tonight; I hope you will do me the honor of attending." The Northeast Chamber of Commerce's Project Manager Liu Bingbing invited him enthusiastically.

Director Zhu guardedly closed the door and lowered his voice, "There is an important meeting today that will go on very late."

Liu Bingbing hummed in a charming way, "I really miss you. No matter how late you finish, I will wait for you. By the way, I've also prepared a surprise."

Zhu Ming was silent for a long time, his tone softening, "Oh? What kind of surprise? Can you reveal it?"

Liu Bingbing giggled with a hint of shyness, "I've already bought the thing you asked me to buy last time; it definitely won't disappoint you!"

Tang Ye left the County Government and arrived at a teahouse in the city.

He knocked on the door of the private room.

Tang Ye nodded and smiled at Zhu Junting, "Sister-in-law, long time no see! Sorry to have kept you waiting."

Zhu Junting picked up the teapot, stood up, and leaned over to pour a cup of tea for Tang Ye.

"Please, sit!"

She was wearing a bright red base layer, the tight material perfectly accentuating her figure.

Her red lips were luscious, and her every glance was full of charm.

Her smile was like a flame, adding a touch of restless, scorching heat to the already elegant private room.

After Tang Ye sat down, Zhu Junting took out a document and placed it by Tang Ye's hand.

"The board of directors passed the proposal to build a hotel in Pinghu Town last night; barring any accidents, construction will start next spring, and we will strive to put it into operation within two years."

Tang Ye took a sip of tea, "Sister-in-law, thank you for your trust in me."

Zhu Junting smiled, "Don't be in such a hurry to thank me. I've bet my entire fortune on this, so I can only win and cannot lose; therefore, the conditions I require are very harsh."

Tang Ye read the material carefully, his expression growing increasingly gloomy; he hadn't expected the other party to make such exorbitant demands for policy support, so he shook his head and said indifferently, "I don't want this project."

A look of surprise appeared in Zhu Junting's eyes, "You want political achievements, and we want policies. Many places can offer such conditions; why don't you agree?"

Tang Ye's expression was solemn, "Of course I want political achievements, but I will absolutely not do it if it means selling out the interests of the common people. The Northeast Chamber of Commerce is also eyeing that plot of land now; you are not the only choice."

Zhu Junting picked up the material and put it into her bag, a shrewd look appearing on her bright face, "If I were to have someone pass this material to Wei Jian, do you think he would agree?"

Tang Ye said tit-for-tat, "Sister-in-law, you should have looked into the situation. Why has the Northeast Chamber of Commerce been unable to secure that land for so long? In whose hands does the power to make the final decision actually lie?"

Zhu Junting stopped speaking, replaced the tea leaves, and assumed an indifferent air.

After brewing a fresh pot of tea, she slowly took an agreement out of her bag and pushed it in front of Tang Ye.

"If it weren't for the fact that you saved me, I wouldn't be forcing this credit onto you. You're clearly just a Deputy Town Mayor, yet you put on the airs of a Municipal Party Secretary. This proposal is the bottom line; if you don't agree, then we'll just have to part ways."

Tang Ye picked up the new agreement, flipped through it carefully, his expression flickering between light and shadow; after finishing, he placed it on the table and stared at Zhu Junting's beautiful face without expression, remaining silent for a long while.

Zhu Junting frowned, her tone turning cold, "This is already the greatest concession. Fine, consider it my enthusiasm being met with a cold shoulder."

Just as Zhu Junting was about to step out of the private room, Tang Ye called out softly, "Wait."

Zhu Junting turned around.

Tang Ye walked toward her with a smile.

Tang Ye "presumptuously" snatched the white designer bag from her shoulder.

He pulled open the zipper and extracted a third document from inside.

He asked with a chuckle, "Since there was clearly another agreement, why not let me finish reading it before leaving?"
