Chapter 19: Psychic Ability and Mind Power

~6 min read 1,172 words

"True Dragon Excellency, may I ask what you think Psychic Ability looks like?"

In the city center, inside a tent, Gelikete was sitting on a large, coarse stone, smiling as she asked.

Naimi Xisi curled his body into a ball; he dislikes confining himself in cramped spaces, but the tent was large enough to barely accommodate him.

"Communicating the supernatural abilities released by the Star Realm?" Naimi Xisi answered hesitantly.

The Star Realm is an outer plane with endless space, like the primary material plane, a world composed of Spiritual Body that envelops the primary material plane and is everywhere.

Psychic Sorcerers and Innate Psychics elevate their consciousness, roaming the Star Realm in Spiritual Body form to explore the mysteries of the spirit.

Just as the Magic Net is to Mages, the Star Realm is the source of power for Psychic Sorcerers and Psychics.

"Correct, but not entirely correct," Gelikete critiqued.

A cluster of silver light appeared in her hand; the silver light turned, as if alive, into a slime-like monster, then transformed into a dazzling silvery energy sphere that emitted cold energy to freeze the ground, and finally became a blazing silver-fire energy arrow that shot at the carpet and ignited it.

"My mentor once encountered an Eastern Mana Master from the Karatū Continent, and that Mana Master said a phrase I think perfectly matches the essence of Psychic Ability."

Gelikete smiled faintly, but her eyes held a disdainful arrogance: "Heart Over Matter, this is the Supreme Path."

"The power of the mind originates from within us; the Star Realm is merely a medium that displays our inner power. In an Idealist worldview, Mind Power transcends the material because we believe it determines the foundation of all things."

Naimi Xisi nodded thoughtfully; he did not think Mind Power could be so mighty, and the so-called Supreme Path was nothing but baseless talk.

If a Psychic Sorcerer truly claimed his power surpassed everything, the myriad gods would instantly teach him a lesson to show him what despair is.

But Naimi Xisi vaguely felt as if he had grasped something: why are Psychic Sorcerers so arrogant? Or why must they believe their power transcends the world? "Excellent insight, hmm. That's also what the Mana Master said; in the East, it's considered a compliment to one's wisdom. True Dragon Excellency, it seems you have already understood the essence of Psychic Ability," Gelikete said rather profoundly.

Even she only discovered this after long cultivation; before that, she had always thought her mentor's words were merely to prove the greatness of Psychic Ability.

Naimi Xisi nodded; as he had guessed, all foundations of Psychic Ability are based on Idealism.

"I think, therefore I am."

Belief grants them power. They believe their power transcends the material, allowing a force that should exist in the void to manifest in the world.

"That seems a bit different from Mind Power," Naimi Xisi mused, the nature of Psychic Ability instead reminding him of something—the faith that supports the myriad gods.

"Mind Power is a concept, Master. It differs from the tangible Psychic Ability; the power of the Mind Gem originates from the Multiverse itself. According to that female Blue Goblin, it is a miracle caused by the Multiverse's own belief. Unlike sentient beings, the universe's belief in concepts is extremely narrow, so Mind Power is confined to a very narrow domain; however, within that rule-bound scope, Mind Power's effect is absolute."

Rarely, the Mind itself proactively explained the nature of Mind Power; it was Naimi Xisi's first time hearing the meaning behind the Mind Gem, and some terms even made his eyelids twitch. "The Multiverse itself? The Mind Gem's power is truly that great?" Naimi Xisi couldn't help but doubt, but then he recalled that the Hyena Werewolves under his control were living examples.

On the Feren Continent, there are countless secret arts that control the spirits of sentient beings, yet none are as terrifying as Mind Power; those it manipulates forever sink into a world of devotion to the master, even retaining their own intelligence yet unable to perceive any abnormality.

Naimi Xisi pondered for a long time; Gelikete, seeing this, simply waited quietly. Psychic Sorcerers are the most patient group in the world, because most of their time is spent confronting their own empty inner world.

Restless thoughts and desires are the targets they strive to subdue for a lifetime.

This is the greatest challenge of Law-Spirit Dual Cultivation. It represents spells of Lawful Materialism on one side of the scale and Mana of Chaotic Idealism on the other; practitioners must constantly maintain balance in their inner worldview, lest the side they favor cause the opposite power to become uncontrollable.

This also leads successful Law-Spirit Dual Cultivators to a common problem—they all become schizophrenic.

Naimi Xisi also had to consider whether he still needed a side job as a Psychic Sorcerer; he did not want to fall into such a mental state, yet it is a basic requirement for Law-Spirit Dual Cultivators.

"No need to worry, Master." The Mind resurfaced at the right moment, becoming active as the conversation turned to Psychic Ability.

"Is this a professional match?" Naimi Xisi muttered inwardly.

But what the Mind said next sparked hope in his heart.

"Mind Power is the ruler of the spiritual world; it commands all spiritual energy. Even if you moonlight as that so-called Psychic Sorcerer, the power of Psychic Ability will still submit to the Mind Gem."

According to the Mind's intention, if Naimi Xisi also cultivates Psychic Sorcery, the feared outcome will not occur, because Psychic Ability's power stems from belief, and Mind Power is formed by the greatest belief of the Multiverse.

Thus, Psychic Ability will, under Mind Power's guidance, automatically draw upon Mind Power to grow.

In short, Naimi Xisi's Psychic Ability level will rise with the growth of Mind Power; once he takes office, he will immediately become a Sixth-level Psychic Sorcerer, and as he breaks through growth stages, Mind Power will continue to increase, thereby boosting Psychic Ability.

Moreover, even if he does not construct his own Idealist worldview, Psychic Ability will not fail, because it is already supported by a belief larger than himself.

With that worry resolved, Naimi Xisi relaxed; what he now needs is a way to become a Psychic Sorcerer.

The long-waiting Gelikete also breathed a sigh of relief, eager to finish so the great Buddha could be dispatched.

She reached out, touching Juan Ce Long's dragon claw, a glimmer of silver flashing in her eyes.

"True Dragon Excellency, the way to become a Psychic Sorcerer is to roam the Star Realm with one's own Spiritual Body; only when Spiritual Power is strong enough to endure the baptism of Star Matter can one achieve a mental breakthrough and gain the ability to intervene in reality with the mind."

The data feels off, so I won't post it all at once; one chapter in the morning, one in the afternoon, to increase exposure, sorry, please vote (End of chapter).
