Chapter 245: Location of the Rift
Jim drove the van and led the group to a wasteland where abandoned cars were gathered.
The van hid inside, hard to spot, giving everyone time to discuss their next destination.
"Have you found the Rift that connects to Ying Ying Ming Jie?" Naimi Xisi asked Jim.
Jim sighed, "I searched the whole town and didn't find any place with strange phenomena."
Da Si Ting, who was nearby, brightened at Jim's words and hurried, "I know! Are you looking for a wormhole?"
"Wormhole?" the others asked, puzzled.
Da Si Ting then explained what a wormhole is, and Jim and Qiao Yi Si immediately realized that the so‑called wormhole was the "Rift" Naimi Xisi had mentioned.
The chubby kid excitedly produced a compass and said, "Look, the compass is completely scrambled; that means a tremendously powerful energy source nearby is disturbing the magnetic field!"
Then he reiterated Teacher Nature's theory.
This surprised Naimi Xisi; no wonder he hadn't found any trace of the Rift. It turns out that in this Age of Dharma Decline, the anomaly produced by a portal linking parallel universes is a disturbed magnetic field.
It isn't Naimi Xisi's fault for not thinking of it; the Multiverse is boundless, and in different worlds, doors that connect to other realms often have varying effects on reality.
For example, in Frelen, when demons tried to open a Rift from the Abyss to Frelen, the phenomenon was a sky‑filled, all‑over scarlet glow.
In the end, the cause is that the high‑magic world has abundant magical energy, so any cataclysmic event has visible changes. In this Age of Dharma Decline, even spell light is invisible, so it's not surprising that a Rift can only cause invisible magnetic turbulence.
Da Si Ting's words made Naimi Xisi even more satisfied with the effectiveness of the prophetic spell; indeed, as long as he follows Jim and Qiao Yi Si, all clues will come to him on their own.
"Give me the compass; I'll go find the Rift," Naimi Xisi said, extending his hand to Da Si Ting.
Several children instantly widened their eyes, protecting the compass, and said, "No! We also want to go! Wei Er is our friend; we'll help you save him!"
Jim, standing aside, wore a blank expression and said, "You didn't see that this man just flattened a highway with a single hand; do you still need a few kids to help?"
Before he could scold them, Qiao Yi Si spoke up, "Mr. Naimi Xisi, I also want to go; I'm worried about Wei Er. Let me go with you."
Jim's face darkened instantly, and he shouted, "Stop fooling around! No one knows what dangers await there; you'd just be a burden!"
Several children, seeing Jim's angry face, sulked and fell silent, while Qiao Yi Si remained resolutely staring at Naimi Xisi.
Mai Ke, still unwilling to give up, muttered softly, "With Shi Yi here, we're not scared at all!"
Naimi Xisi gave a cold stare as they finished arguing, saying, "I told you, I'm fine going alone; you stay hidden here. Remember, if danger appears, run immediately."
Naimi Xisi's words were final; after all, the group had just witnessed his inhuman methods and were still shaken.
Before leaving, Naimi Xisi asked Shi Yi, "Where's that silver gem of yours?"
Shi Yi looked up in shock at Naimi Xisi, wondering how he knew, thinking perhaps he came from that place.
Naimi Xisi nodded, "That's right, I'm also one of the dukes; I heard you lost your memory a few months ago? Not recognizing me is understandable." After hearing "duke," Shi Yi confirmed Naimi Xisi's identity and whispered, "Throne. Father, take it away."
Naimi Xisi's expression darkened, "Did you give it to him?"
Shi Yi lightly nodded, then shook his head, "I can't hide it well. Father, discovered."
Upon hearing that Shi Yi didn't give it voluntarily, Naimi Xisi's face brightened a bit.
He coldly said, "The Throne chose you, so you're destined to be one of the council's dukes. Shi Yi, this is my first and last time helping you retrieve the Throne. If you lose it again, there won't be such a chance."
Shi Yi, frightened by Naimi Xisi's stern words, lowered his head.
Naimi Xisi sighed at that, noting that in two lifetimes he'd never had children, so he didn't know how to educate them, and could only try a stern tone to make Shi Yi remember.
The Throne, a rare treasure across the Multiverse, being stolen is the sort of plot you'd only see in third‑rate Western dramas of past lives.
The few nearby listeners were confused by Naimi Xisi and Shi Yi's talk about councils and dukes.
But Naimi Xisi had no patience to explain, took the compass and left.
——
"Interesting, the Rift is here?" Naimi Xisi stood on the hill, looking at the distant Hawkins National Laboratory, and sneered.
When he left before, he hadn't seen the Rift. It seems this laboratory still has places he missed.
!
Conveniently, he had already planned to settle scores with Doctor Bu Lun Na after regaining his strength, saving an extra trip.
Not long after, the guards at the laboratory base's entrance saw a silver‑haired man walking toward the main gate.
They instantly changed expression; Subject 17's traits were unmistakable, and they immediately recognized him as the Experiment Subject the Doctor had been seeking, though they didn't expect him to appear so boldly.
Thinking of the mysterious, terrifying power of those Experiment Subjects, the five guards raised their guns and barked, "Stop!"
Naimi Xisi halted, looked at them indifferently and said, "Take me to Doctor Bu Lun Na; I have business with him."
The guards exchanged puzzled looks, unsure what this Experiment Subject meant, wondering if he was walking into a trap.
Although confused, they wouldn't give up the credit they'd earned; Subject 17 finally had a chance to escape, yet returned to die, so they could claim merit.
One guard immediately produced handcuffs, approached him, and prepared to restrain him.
Naimi Xisi stood there; his seemingly calm gaze suddenly sharpened as the guard approached. He lifted his head sharply and gave the guard a cold look.
Naimi Xisi's eyes flashed with a silver aura; an invisible, massive psychic force surged like a raging tide, blasting outward. The guard felt a huge impact hit him, and before he could react, his body was involuntarily lifted into the air.
The guard's body, like a rag, was seized by an unseen giant hand, then hurled backward. He arced through the air and slammed into the wall behind him, producing a deep, thundering crash. The wall trembled slightly, shedding some dust.
The scene instantly made the remaining guards' hands shake around their guns.
