Chapter 28: The Mage's War Path

~8 min read 1,434 words

Akdina elegantly pointed with their left hand at a massive stone, the ring on their middle finger emitting a blue glow, an invisible force lifted the stone, then flung it in midair toward the Juan Ce Long that lay on the ground.

Naimi Xisi let out a cold snort, unperturbed after being set up, they calmly circulated the massive Mana within, and the real space was instantly twisted by Spiritual Power.

Three-ring Teleportation Ability 【Psychic Jump】.

The Force Net that tightly bound them fell to the ground, because the target it was supposed to bind appeared ten meters away after a flash of Blue Light Halo.

Having mastered Psychic Teleportation, Naimi Xisi's agility was almost maximally increased; the various teleportation escape abilities, when triggered instantly, allowed them to remain unbeaten while retaining Mana.

A Soul Traveler spellcaster who specializes in teleportation abilities is almost the hardest to kill among all Spellcasters.

"As expected, a Spell Mania Dragon!" Akdina's complexion turned a bit sour.

As one of the world's top Magic Creatures, the True Dragon Bloodline contains immense magical power; even if not a spellcasting genius like Juan Ce Long, upon reaching the Ancient Dragon Stage it can naturally become a being with Legendary-level Power.

White Dragon excluded.

Therefore, the overwhelming majority of True Dragons never become Mages or study spells. This is not only due to their innate arrogance, but also because delving into spells shortens their slumber, causing their growth to slow.

Not all True Dragons, like Juan Ce Long, are naturally able to master the deepest spell knowledge, so becoming a Mage is a very low‑value proposition for them. By contrast, they prefer to crush everything with their invincible Physical Strength.

Only True Dragons afflicted with the mental disorder Spell Mania will study magic.

Akdina had doubted the opponent ever since using Spell Resistance, after all, a Youth Stage Silver Dragon theoretically lacks the Sorcerer rank; they only acquire first‑level Sorcerer spellcasting ability during the adolescent stage.

Now seeing that they not only master Three-ring Evocation Spells but also Conjuration Spells, Akdina finally confirmed.

Naimi Xisi roared toward the sky; the Monsters and Dark Elves that received the signal all charged at the female Spellcaster, while Zata, anxious to turn back and rescue, was entangled by Volensa.

The massive Bear Goblin wielded twin blades at breakneck speed, occasionally releasing 【Psychic Shock Blast】 to keep Zata immobilized for a few seconds. Although Zata's formidable Physical Strength and power kept Volensa from daring to overreach, he could only painfully sustain his own defense against Volensa's attacks.

His power surpasses Volensa's, but the Bear Goblin, boosted by Wanderer class bonuses, is much faster, like a fly—advancing when the enemy advances, retreating when the enemy retreats.

Facing the onslaught of so many Monsters, Akdina couldn't help but feel a prickling on their scalp; they repeatedly raised their hand, using invisible telekinetic force to swing the massive stone, repelling each charging Monster, yet the Shadow Swords that belonged to them advanced with ghostly speed, and the clumsy stone could not hit them.

Akdina clenched their teeth; the close‑quarters consequences of the Shadow Swords were intolerable—no matter how powerful a Spellcaster, if a Warrior gets close, they'll be beaten to death by fists. So they drew another ornate Scroll radiating potent magic, tore it apart, and a surge of evil death magic instantly rose skyward.

Conjuration Five-ring Spell — 【Cloudkill】! A dim yellow‑green haze slowly filled the battlefield; the Fungal Moss on the ground withered the instant it touched it. This is a Poisonous Death Cloud summoned from another realm; no creature can survive within it for long.

Naimi Xisi frowned; the Drow Elite he had just reclaimed were already kneeling and coughing incessantly within the Death Cloud.

Common fodder can be lost, but these Elite Soldiers are not disposable Cannon Fodder.

Second Ring Shaping Energy System Spell — 【Gust of Wind】! Naimi Xisi raised his dragon head, his gaping maw spewing gale; the violent wind, like a sweeping cloud, blew all the Toxic Gas away, yet within only a few seconds the Monster Army suffered countless casualties, and only the Shadow Swords with strong Physical Quality remained alive.

"Roar!!!"

Ogel, unaffected by Cloudkill, had already charged to the female Spellcaster's front; a massive stone smashed against him, but only made him stagger.

The large wooden club, wielded with great force, struck at Akdina, but an invisible Force Wall appeared a few feet before her, faithfully guarding its mistress.

Ogel scratched his head in confusion, skeptically struck a few more times, but to no avail.

Akdina sneered, "Does this fool really think he can shatter the Five-ring Spell 【Force Wall】 defense with brute force?"

She raised her hand again, pointing; the invisible telekinetic force instantly snatched the wooden club from Ogel's hand, and the club struck the former master's head.

Ogel, dizzy and disoriented, fell to the ground. Yet Akdina's expression did not improve, for there was bad news.

Her High-ring Spell Slots were nearly exhausted, and the Scroll she carried was almost used up.

But that dragon of unknown Mage rank had scarcely acted until now, retaining most of its power.

Even with her pride, she had to admit she was in grave danger.

Ascending into the sky again, Naimi Xisi curled his mouth into a grin, knowing it was his turn to act.

"LaThunder"

The brief draconic chant gathered massive Mana, condensing high‑temperature lightning at Juan Ce Long's fingertips.

【Lightning Bolt】! The roaring lightning, like a king's judgment, shot down from above toward Akdina.

But the Force Wall she relied on, due to insufficient height, could not block this light‑speed strike.

"Ah!!!"

The lightning struck Akdina's head; the third ring on her left hand's ring finger flashed brilliant light, dense Runes rose around her, continuously mitigating the lightning's energy damage.

In pain, Akdina collapsed onto the ground, trembling as she touched her cheek, but the sting and the twisted, rough skin told her an unfortunate truth.

She was disfigured.

The female Spellcaster let out a harrowing scream, her eyes venomously fixed on the sky where Naimi Xisi hovered. She would rather have the Ring of Protection from Elemental Energy in her hand not trigger and die that way than become this disgusting sight.

She inhaled deeply, telling herself calmly, "You can still be saved; as long as you escape, use Divine Spell to heal, and there will still be hope."

Akdina recited the incantation again, keeping a tight watch on the dragon to prevent it from rampaging, but strangely the dragon did not move, instead staring behind her as if something existed there.

It seemed she realized something, snapping her head around, but a multicolored Conical Energy already covered the area before her; the Ring of Protection from Elemental Energy glowed again, yet this time the invisible psychic ability could not be blocked by any spell.

Akdina, dead.

Behind her, Gelikete, who had appeared at an unknown time, stood a few meters away, holding the fading Psychic Afterglow in his hand.

"No!!!! *cough cough*" Zata roared in anguish, his eyes tearful at the female Spellcaster's corpse; Volensa seized the chance, thrusting a sword into his chest.

Then, he lifted Zata with colossal strength, flinging him dozens of meters away, where he crashed hard into a massive stone.

Naimi Xisi elegantly spread his wings, descending slowly from the sky, looking at the dying Zata and the already dead Akdina with a hint of regret: "Just die like that? What a waste."

Thus the war ended, and the cunning Juan Ce Long, from start to finish, had only unleashed a few spells, not even employing the pre‑set Surprise Troop.

This is the Mage's War Path: never set foot on the battlefield. For Naimi Xisi, the loss was merely some Cannon Fodder destined to be culled, but a fool overly confident like Akdina becomes only a Negative Example.

The Spell Slot Mage Spellcasters are thus awkward; therefore on the Feren Continent, armies are essential, each person fulfilling their role, even High-level Mages have their Spell Slots and portable Magic Items consumed by Cannon Fodder. Conversely, Melee Combatants possess greater endurance and sustainability.

Before reaching Legendary, mass is easily balanced by quantity; moreover, regarding why dragons must slumber to increase power.

It is because a dragon's lifespan is limited; even a normal dragon has a low probability of growing to the Ancient Dragon Stage before dying of old age, let alone those whose slumber is fragmented by various trivial matters.

Thus studying Arcane Power is highly unprofitable for dragons; they may die before ever attaining Legendary level.
