Chapter 37: Bodak
"Ah, yes, yes. It is this power, the power of the Great Death!" WuAngNuoSi seized a handful of ash drifting in the air, and, intoxicated, placed it on his nose to sniff.
His white long hair, like a spider's web, floated in the air due to magical power, his black eyes contracted to pinprick-sized dots, and a deathly radiance emitted toward all still‑living undead.
"My pets, go forth, and gnaw those fresh flesh for me!"
The undead, as if injected with adrenaline, rattled their tireless bones and repeatedly slammed against the orcs' defenses.
"Yes, resurrect, resurrect, awaken from the darkness, transcend the mortal world!"
The incantation fell like dense raindrops at everyone's ears, and one after another, dead bodies rose under the dark magic—a profane power brought by Control the Dead.
Only after exhausting all his Third-circle Spell Slots did WuAngNuoSi stop, and at that moment the field had gained over a hundred fresh zombies again.
Naimi Xisi watched it all, curled his lip, and thought the zombies were of no use.
The zombies swung their stiff gray arms; indeed they were much stronger than Skeletons, yet still inferior to orcs, and a hundred plus zombies accomplished little.
WuAngNuoSi spent at least eight Third-circle Spell Slots; had he used them for Fireball, the effect would have been far more useful than those hundred‑plus zombies.
Fireball! The sole deity of Third-circle Spells!
If anyone opposes it, Naimi Xisi will use a twenty‑meter radius of intense flame and explosion damage, with blistering flight speed, to show how correct it is! Boom! Boom! Boom! One explosive after another erupted continuously among the crowd, each spark from the dragon's claw taking at least twenty enemies' lives. Some powerful Shadow Swords survived the horrific blasts by relying on their bodily defenses, but the searing burn, worse than death, stripped them of combat ability.
WuAngNuoSi's expression darkened as he stared at the dragon that had stolen his spotlight; the cheap Fireball killed wave after wave of the undead he had painstakingly crafted, which he found utterly unacceptable.
"Bodak!"
Under the Necromancer's command, the five Bodaks that had been guarded by the army moved, repeatedly fixing their eyeless gazes on the unlucky orcs; any orc that met their stare died violently under an inexplicable force.
But it wasn't over; a minute after death, their bodies grew rigid and pale, their noses vanished quickly, and their eyes turned into black‑hole‑like voids without whites.
This is an infectious virus.
Each Bodak can employ Death Gaze three times per day, and the generally third‑rank orcs cannot block its power at all.
The newly created Bodaks accelerated the infection; in a short span, nearly a hundred orcs turned into pale monsters.
Naimi Xisi, with the wounded Sgena beside him, said disgustedly, "What a disgusting fellow, daring to create something like Bodaks. At a time like this I wish a holy knight from the Holy God Church would appear and give him a Divine Cleave."
Many undead are expressly prohibited from being created by the churches on the surface; Wraiths are one such, and Bodaks are another. This virus‑like undead, once discovered by the Holy God Church, will be traced to its maker even if they have to dig three meters underground.
As for the outcome after they are found, it won't be better than the Ninth Infernal Prison.
If there is any being on Frelen daring to recklessly craft such monsters, it is probably only Sai Er, the Red‑Robe Mage.
"Don't look into their eyes!" Naimi Xisi shouted loudly. Then he extended his dragon claw, began brewing a spell, and pearls of light swirled around him, later turning into one after another milky beams imbued with holy aura that shot toward the Bodaks on the ground.
Every Bodak struck by the light was as if doused in sulfuric acid; the impact spot instantly carbonized then vanished, and the undead, which should feel no pain, emitted a harrowing scream.
First Circle Evocation Spell—Lunia's Light.
Arcane Power mimics the radiance of the Heaven Mountain where the gods dwell, a gathering place of all positive energy; even harmless breezes and warm sunlight there carry terrifying lethality toward undead.
The First Circle spell's incantation is already brief; under the aid of Dragon Tongue, Naimi Xisi's casting speed became faster, and in less than a second he could unleash a Lunia's Light.
The orcs, warned, no longer dared to look at the Bodaks' eyes; even the few reckless fools greatly slowed their proliferation.
WuAngNuoSi rubbed his eyes, unable to believe what he saw; could this Juan Ce Long be the illegitimate child of Mi Si Te La? How could the Spell Slots be so abundant as to be inexhaustible?
Watching his prized Bodaks being systematically exterminated, he inhaled deeply to force calmness; WuAngNuoSi sped toward the city wall, and under the effect of the Five-ring Spell "Soaring the Sky", he could gallop through the air at 15 meters per second.
WuAngNuoSi, while closing in and preparing a spell, decided to target the two dragons, eliminate them, and ensure Sarufar could no longer obstruct his power.
Naimi Xisi's expression also grew serious; the power of Five-ring and Six-circle Spells was far beyond what he could counter, and he was ready to flee at any moment.
But a figure suddenly burst out of the city wall at supersonic speed, interrupting his thoughts.
Sarufar made a single leap, instantly spanning nearly a hundred meters of battlefield, and the bastion he had stood on shattered. He stared expressionlessly at the sky‑borne WuAngNuoSi and flashed a provocative smile.
"Your curse has already failed, Drow, what other means do you have for me to see?"
While WuAngNuoSi focused on eradicating the natives, Gode had already lifted Sarufar's curse.
The Necromancer halted his flight, and beneath his black robe his face had become extremely hideous. He hadn't expected Sarufar to recover his condition so quickly.
How could a curse issued with the power of "Darkest Hour" be lifted so easily?! Could there be a High-circle Priest here? Naimi Xisi, without showing emotion, glanced covertly at the smiling Gode; the Gray Dwarf seemed off.
WuAngNuoSi, angry, brandished his staff and said coldly, "You think you've already won?"
The Necromancer recited the incantation again; the Sarufar on the ground would not watch him complete the spell. He bent his legs slightly, then leapt violently toward the sky, the massive thrust shattering the earth, while a fierce wind howled sharply behind him.
A sly glint flickered in WuAngNuoSi's eyes; he swung his staff, halted the chant from his mouth, and instead a Ring on his left hand emitted a red glow.
Fourth Circle Evocation Spell—Otiluk Magic Seal Sphere! Red Force Energy was summoned from the Etheric Realm, then shaped by the mage's will into a three‑meter‑tall, three‑meter‑wide, three‑meter‑deep force‑field sphere prison.
Unable to dodge, Sarufar was directly ensnared by the spell, slammed hard into the top of the prison, yet the powerful impact left the prison unscathed.
Instead, Sarufar, under gravity, fell rapidly toward the ground while confined within the spherical prison.
