Chapter 1012: Danger Approaches
He Yuzhu drove the tank arrogantly in the lead; the people on the bus all felt their hearts settle, filled with a sense of security.
The tank treads crushed over the red earth of Somalia, kicking up rolling clouds of dust that filled the sky.
Two helicopters roared as they swept overhead; they were the very aircraft transporting the critically injured Dean. He Yuzhu was secretly surprised; those young men who had come to provide support were quite capable, actually managing to get both helicopters running. They hadn't encountered a single obstruction along the way.
But the vehicle hadn't traveled far when, in the middle of the road ahead, a roadblock constructed of abandoned vehicles piled in a jumble appeared, with flags of various colors being torn by the gale and snapping loudly—it was a checkpoint for the local Muslim militants.
This group of militants looked up and saw a tank roaring toward them, crushing everything in its path; they were instantly stunned, their eyeballs nearly popping out of their sockets.
Looking closer, they saw a luxury bus following closely behind the tank. Its gleaming body and wide, bright glass windows, appearing in this war-torn land, looked just like a golden Phoenix that had fallen into a chicken coop, standing out starkly.
Several soldiers instinctively raised their Rifles, about to step forward to block the road, but before the cursing and shouting could leave their mouths, their leader kicked them hard in the lower back.
"Are you bastards looking for death? With just us few, we aren't even enough for one shell from them!"
The soldiers shrank their necks, still wanting to bite the bullet and step forward to block, but were again sternly shouted down by the sub-leader.
"Do you all not want to live? You dare to block a tank? Run, quickly!"
One soldier, looking unconvinced, opened his mouth to argue: "Boss, this is our territory, why should we be afraid of them?"
"They could send us all to the afterlife with one shell! Even if reinforcements arrive, what the hell good would it do!" the sub-leader shouted while turning his head to flee.
When the rest of the soldiers saw the leader running, they dared not show off any longer; they threw down the firearms in their hands and swarmed into the roadside bushes, fleeing in all directions.
He Yuzhu drove the tank, crashing straight through the roadblock.
The bus followed closely behind the tank, speeding through the checkpoint.
Inside the bus, a Doctor turned to look at Doctor Liu beside her, her eyes full of admiration: "Do you know that person? He is just too cool! If our hospital could have a figure like that sitting in charge, we wouldn't have to suffer so much."
Doctor Liu smiled faintly; she didn't say much, but the look in her eyes said it all—she did indeed know He Yuzhu.
The medical staff on the bus had witnessed the group safely break through the first life-or-death checkpoint with their own eyes; many had reddened eye sockets, and hot tears couldn't stop streaming down. After being suppressed for so long, they finally felt a sense of pride and relief.
At the subsequent checkpoints, the convoy passed through swaggeringly and directly. The militants guarding the checkpoints saw the shadow of the tank and had long since fled in terror. Some militants, in order to clear a path for the tank, simply drove their pickup trucks straight into the roadside ditches.
He Yuzhu just kept charging forward like this, in a grand and imposing manner, heading straight for Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.
Once they entered the zone controlled by the coalition government, He Yuzhu turned the steering wheel and drove the tank into an abandoned quarry.
Confirming there was no one around, he moved his mind and directly stored the entire tank into the System Space.
After finishing all this, He Yuzhu strode onto the bus.
Inside the carriage, an atmosphere of relaxation after surviving a disaster permeated the air.
Seeing him come up, Doctor Liu immediately took the initiative to stand up and offer him her seat.
A pair of almond-shaped eyes curved into two gentle crescents, her body instinctively leaning half an inch closer to him, her tone carrying a hint of imperceptible admiration.
"Mr. He, you drove that tank so beautifully! If you could come to be our Dean when we go abroad to perform missions in the future, we would never have to suffer the indignity of outsiders again."
He Yuzhu smiled faintly, remaining calm and composed,
and slightly increased the distance between the two of them.
He could feel that the look in this female Doctor's eyes toward him was not just ordinary gratitude; there was a different kind of sentiment hidden within, as if she wanted to treat him as a confidant she could rely on.
But at the thought of the vast age gap between the two, He Yuzhu sighed inwardly, feeling that he was already of a certain age and shouldn't get involved in such ambiguity with a young woman, lest he invite gossip about failing to act with the dignity of his age.
"I advise you all, try not to come to such war-torn places in the future. If you can't even protect your own lives, what is the point of talking about anything else?" He Yuzhu said in a calm tone, gently diverting the topic.
Doctor Liu pursed her lips and chuckled, completely unaware of the distance he had deliberately created.
"We want to do humanitarian aid in our hearts, it's just that there are always people who can't stand our unconditional kindness. By the way, Fang Deng, she is your daughter-in-law, right?"
Hearing this name, He Yuzhu's eyes flickered slightly, and he looked her up and down. Judging by Doctor Liu's age, she was about the same as Fang Deng, likely a classmate of the same generation.
He raised an eyebrow and asked: "You and Fang Deng are classmates?"
Doctor Liu nodded gently, the light in her eyes soft: "I am her senior fellow student; we have always had a very good personal relationship, and in the past, we even teamed up for several major surgeries together."
He Yuzhu asked casually: "You are a top student who graduated from Peking Union Medical College; there is no shortage of major surgeries for you to demonstrate your skills in the country, why bother running to such a dangerous place as Africa?"
Doctor Liu tilted her head slightly, a bright, innocent smile appearing on her face: "I've carried a hero's dream in my heart since I was a child." After laughing, she shrugged lightly, "Besides, we are on a rotating assignment; most of my other colleagues have families and children and aren't willing to come. I am alone with no ties, so I volunteered to come."
He Yuzhu nodded and continued to ask: "After experiencing this life-or-death crisis, would you still be willing to come to such a place in the future?"
"Hard to say." Doctor Liu shook her head lightly.
He Yuzhu felt a sense of approval in his heart and praised: "You can be considered a heroine among women."
Receiving He Yuzhu's praise, Doctor Liu's brows and eyes danced with joy, and she smiled exceptionally happily, saying: "To be able to get this compliment from you, this trip was worth it."
Seeing this, He Yuzhu again turned his body sideways, avoiding this overly intimate atmosphere, "Our safety is only temporary; after we board the Warship, the real trouble will have just begun."
The smile on Doctor Liu's face froze suddenly, and she looked stunned: "We are boarding our own country's Warship! Who else would dare to come and cause trouble?"
He Yuzhu narrowed his eyes and looked at the gray sky outside the bus window.
"The people of M Country will never watch us leave with the evacuees smoothly. But that's just my feeling, it doesn't count for anything!"
Doctor Liu's brows were tightly knitted together, and a heavy stone hung in her heart: "But once we are on the high seas, what should we do? Even a fierce tiger fears a pack of wolves..."
A faint arc curled at the corner of He Yuzhu's mouth: "The boat will straighten itself when it reaches the bridge; there's no need to worry too early now."
Hearing this, Doctor Liu's eyes suddenly brightened, and she leaned forward again, lowering her voice to ask: "I've heard quite a few rumors about you... the outside world says you really have the ability to sink a Warship directly?"
He Yuzhu shook his head lightly, "How could I have such great ability..."
Doctor Liu refused to believe it and said: "Don't try to hide it from me; I know quite a few of your acquaintances! Jiang Mei is my mentor, and I also know Doctor Lin..."
He Yuzhu scanned her up and down again: "Since you know so many of my old acquaintances, why bother asking me?"
Doctor Liu giggled, "I am a person who is naturally inclined to get to the bottom of things, and precisely because of this, to this day, no man is willing to marry me."
He Yuzhu felt increasingly awkward.
He could feel the girl's intentions, but a huge age gap lay in between, and he really didn't want to get entangled with her in terms of romantic love. But Doctor Liu didn't take the generation gap seriously at all and kept talking to him as a peer.
He Yuzhu had no choice but to quickly change the subject, chatting casually about the local customs of Somalia, cleverly brushing off this ambiguity.
The bus bumped along the way, and before they knew it, the vehicle had arrived at the port of Mogadishu.
Everyone boarded the Warship; Deputy Minister Sun was already waiting there with a group of people to welcome them. On the deck, applause and congratulations rose one after another.
Being able to survive this trip was truly a stroke of great luck.
Returning to the cabin, Deputy Minister Sun invited He Yuzhu and Captain Li Jian together to the cabin to discuss matters.
He Yuzhu rubbed his throbbing temples and said, "Leader, I have already brought the people back to you safely; can you let me have a good rest for a while first?"
Deputy Minister Sun's expression was grave as he shook his head: "Now is not the time for rest; we must carefully discuss the sailing route back to the country."
He Yuzhu waved his hand: "I don't understand these ins and outs of navigation routes."
Captain Li Jian's face was extremely dark as he spoke to bring bad news: "We have just received intelligence that an aircraft carrier strike group from M Country is urgently setting sail from the Diego Garcia base in the Indian Ocean, crossing the Arabian Sea and rushing toward us at high speed. Judging by the sailing course, the target is our warship, and it is highly likely they are preparing to intercept us on the high seas after we sail out of Somalia..."
Upon hearing the news, He Yuzhu sneered: "Do they really intend to tear off the mask and fall out with us?"
