Chapter 1015: The Roadblock

~8 min read 1,537 words

He Yuzhu grinned, his smile carrying a hint of streetwise roguishness: "Doctor, I'm not trying to scare you on purpose. I'll risk my life to repay those who treat me with sincerity; but as for anyone who schemes against me behind my back, I will never let them feel even half a bit comfortable."

Doctor seemed not to have heard this harsh remark at all, maintaining her professional tone as she teased: "All your organ indicators are normal, except for this heart of yours, which has grown slightly crooked."

As soon as these words were out, He Yuzhu immediately frowned: "You're deliberately picking on me, aren't you? In that case, I'll go find Captain Li to discuss official business."

Only then did Doctor lift her eyes to glance at him, a playful smile tugging at the corners of her mouth: "Look at how petty you are. Is it possible that without you, this ship wouldn't be able to return to the country?"

He Yuzhu was choked speechless by this remark for a moment, then burst into laughter: "You girl, you're doing this to spite me, aren't you?"

Doctor covered her mouth and giggled, her eyes rolling as her tone took on a hint of ingratiation: "Old He, are you truly willing to spare me one bottle of that medicinal liquid?"

He Yuzhu did not respond, casually pulling out a small glass bottle and handing it straight to her: "You can't afford this thing, so I'll just give this bottle to you."

Doctor's expression stiffened immediately, and she straightened her back, looking unconvinced: "You underestimate me too much; how could I not afford it?"

He Yuzhu gave a light snort, his tone flat: "This bottle is priced at two hundred million US dollars. Can you come up with that kind of money?"

Hearing the price, Doctor's eyes widened abruptly: "You really dare to ask for an exorbitant price!"

"I invested two hundred million US dollars in it, real and solid. Don't look at how small the bottle is; as long as you drink this reagent, you can maintain a very youthful physique even when you reach my age. Just like me." He Yuzhu said it lightly, without a hint of showing off.

Doctor was stunned for a moment, then pushed the glass bottle back without a word, her tone stiff and reserved: "This item is too precious; I cannot accept it."

He Yuzhu stuffed the bottle back into her hands again, his tone carrying an indisputable firmness: "Whether you use it yourself or take it to practice medicine and save lives, just remember one thing: it must never fall into the hands of foreigners. I have no tradition of taking back things I have given away."

Doctor examined the small medicine bottle in her hand, no longer declining, and nodded solemnly: "Then I will accept it. In the future, if I develop new results based on this reagent, I will give you half of any proceeds generated."

He Yuzhu waved his hand, his expression calm but his attitude solemn: "There is no need to share the money with me. As long as you practice medicine and study, and do not do anything that harms the country and the people or implicates the common folk, that is enough."

No sooner had he finished speaking than Doctor suddenly stood on tiptoe and, catching him off guard, quickly pecked him on the cheek.

He Yuzhu stiffened all over, his expression one of being unable to laugh or cry: "Young lady, didn't you say earlier that you didn't like men?"

Doctor tilted her head, a cunning light flickering in her eyes: "You are my key research subject, and now you are also my benefactor; what's the harm in a kiss?"

He Yuzhu waved his hand helplessly: "You young people, I understand you less and less."

Just as he turned to leave, Doctor's call came from behind: "Old He, you wouldn't happen to have traveled here from the future, would you?"

He Yuzhu chuckled and shook his head: "What are you letting your imagination run wild about, little girl?"

Doctor stepped forward quickly and grabbed his wrist, her eyes full of curiosity: "Then what does the future world look like? In which direction should the medical field develop next?"

He Yuzhu gently pulled his hand away and said frankly: "I truly don't understand medicine. If I hadn't seen you traveling far overseas to treat illnesses and save lives, full of chivalrous spirit, I wouldn't have wanted to say even half a word more."

"Just tell me a little. Long before I met you, I was determined to study the secrets on you." Doctor instantly shed her calm and capable demeanor as a top surgeon, acting exactly like a junior pestering an elder for a story, putting on a brazen, coquettish posture.

He Yuzhu let out a long sigh: "If you wanted to ask about the development trends of industry or the electronics sector, I could still explain a thing or two. But I am completely ignorant in the medical field; asking me is a futile effort."

Doctor still refused to give up: "Doctor Lin once drank too much and told me many things. She said that many things you mentioned have all come true one by one."

"The journey is still long; I'll talk to you again when I have time later. The situation is urgent now; something big might happen." He Yuzhu tactfully declined.

Before the words had faded, a hurried and heavy knocking sounded on the door outside.

He Yuzhu's expression turned grave instantly; he quickly grabbed his coat, put it on, fastened the buttons rapidly, and lowered his voice to warn: "I'm afraid something has happened."

Doctor was full of astonishment: "Several M Country Warships have already been blown up and sunk; what kind of trouble can they stir up now?"

He Yuzhu did not look back, speaking in a low voice: "They still have three Warships that haven't suffered any losses."

The knocking sounded suddenly, and He Yuzhu pulled open the cabin door to find Captain Li standing outside with furrowed brows and a tense face.

"Did the M Country Warships come over?" He Yuzhu asked straight to the point.

Captain Li gritted his teeth, his face livid: "These unreasonable fellows have directly blockaded our shipping route. They insist over the radio that their vessels were attacked by us and are demanding an explanation."

He Yuzhu's gaze darkened, his tone steady and powerful: "Do you have a response plan in mind? If you need anything, I will cooperate with you fully."

Captain Li clenched his fists and replied in a low voice: "Our principle has always been not to fire the first shot. If the other side insists on provoking a war, we are already prepared to fight. The opposing formation only has one cruiser with combat capability; the remaining landing ships and Supply Ship have weak combat capabilities and are not to be feared."

He Yuzhu pondered for a moment and gave Captain Li a reassurance: "Before twelve midnight, try to avoid war. After zero o'clock, I can help you."

Captain Li looked puzzled but did not ask for the reason. He knew well that He Yuzhu had his own considerations, so he nodded solemnly: "I will follow your arrangements."

After finalizing the strategy, He Yuzhu followed Captain Li onto the deck.

The salty, biting sea breeze swept toward them. On the horizon, the silhouettes of three M Country Warships emerged faintly in the twilight.

The three ships were in a pincer formation, tightly blocking the route for the ship to return.

He Yuzhu raised his Telescope, focusing intently on the movements of the enemy vessels.

Beside him, Captain Li was using fluent English to argue and negotiate across the distance with James, the captain of the opposing cruiser.

After observing for a while, He Yuzhu had already figured out the truth: these foreigners were tough in words but cowardly at heart, and they dared not cross the bottom line to provoke a conflict.

It was just that he didn't have a foolproof plan in his heart at the moment. The aftereffects of his previous forced use of space-time abilities were still fresh in his memory, and he dared not rashly use his abilities again.

After overdrawing his strength previously, he not only felt dizzy and lost his memory, but his whole body felt as if his energy had been drained, and he had briefly lost consciousness.

He still couldn't determine whether it was true or false that Doctor said he had stopped breathing. He dared not act rashly at present.

He Yuzhu put down the Telescope, walked into the cockpit, leaned close to Captain Li, and lowered his voice: "Captain Li, in my view, the other side doesn't have the stomach for war right now. They are deliberately blocking the route; they might have other motives."

Captain Li nodded, "At present, there are only two situations: one is waiting for combat orders from their superiors to deliberately provoke a naval battle; the other is staying in place, waiting for reinforcements from afar to arrive. They are surrounding us to arrest our personnel under the guise of inspection."
