Chapter 371: A Gang's Elegy

~9 min read 1,685 words

He Yuzhu spoke up: "What if the 14K people surrender soon? Why not go and stir things up, make them hate each other to the death, wouldn't that be better?"

"You want to stir things up?" Liu Rusi frowned.

He Yuzhu nodded with a smile.

Upon hearing this, Martin and the few brothers beside him immediately grew excited and shouted: "The British killed our brothers, we want to go and take revenge!"

Liu Rusi looked at He Yuzhu with some annoyance, feeling that this kid only knew how to fight and kill without considering the big picture at all, so she frowned and said: "This island is so big, there are many places for the gang members to hide; they won't surrender easily, and might even flee to us instead. If you all leave, what will happen here?"

He Yuzhu understood what she meant and deliberately slapped his forehead: "You're right. My vision was short-sighted, but relying on just these few pistols definitely won't work; I need to go and bring the weapons over from the boat."

Martin immediately said: "Zhuzi, we'll go with you!"

"No," He Yuzhu raised his hand to stop them, "I can go alone and be fast; I'll be back in forty minutes. You all hurry up and build a simple fortification at the Cave entrance!"

Seeing He Yuzhu's firm attitude, Martin no longer insisted.

He Yuzhu turned and rushed out of the Cave, his figure quickly blending into the darkness.

He did not actually go to get weapons, but instead ran toward the front line. He knew that the gang members had no chance of winning against the regular army.

Descending from the high ground, he moved quickly, and in less than ten minutes, he was already near the engagement zone.

He Yuzhu hid behind a giant rock to observe.

Under the moonlight, He Yuzhu saw that the British had actually deployed the Royal Marines, over 500 men.

Four Mortars and three Heavy Machine Guns formed a dense web of fire, leaving the gang members only able to parry, with no power to fight back.

The gang's weapons were disorganized, and under such fierce fire suppression, they could barely lift their heads.

If things continued this way, it was estimated that in less than ten minutes, they would be completely routed.

He Yuzhu took out the Mosin-Nagant Rifle with a Silencer, steadied the rifle body, and searched for targets.

The crosshairs in the scope steadily locked onto a Mortar gunner in the distance.

"Puff!"

That gunner fell to the ground at the sound.

The second gunner beside him hadn't even reacted when the second bullet arrived.

Immediately after, He Yuzhu moved the muzzle, aiming at those few roaring Heavy Machine Guns.

The Machine Gunner was clearly visible in the scope.

"Puff!"

The roar of one Machine Gun came to an abrupt end, followed immediately by the second, the third...

Within a short three minutes, over a dozen of the British Army's main fire points were silenced one after another.

The gang side, which had been suppressed the whole time, finally began to fight back fiercely.

The British Royal Marines began to suffer heavy casualties, and Major Luobinxun shouted: "Retreat immediately!"

There was actually a deadly sniper hidden among the gang; he had to activate the second plan ahead of schedule.

As the sound of a whistle rose, the soldiers quickly retreated toward the water, moving in the direction of the patrol boat.

Once the soldiers had all retreated into the sea, Luobinxun fired three red signal flares at the 14K position.

Not long after, someone on the 14K position fired a signal flare into the sky.

Ge Laoda of the 14K, seeing the signal flare rise over his own position, immediately became alert and shouted: "There's a spy! The enemy is going to fire their cannons, disperse and take cover!"

After he finished shouting, he took a dozen of his trusted aides and ran toward the mountain.

He Yuzhu also understood; it seemed that the gunboat was about to open fire.

Half a minute later, the shells arrived as expected.

"Boom, boom, boom..." The sounds of explosions followed one after another.

The power of the 102mm naval gun was immense; every shell took away over a dozen fresh lives.

There were no fortifications built on the gang's position at all, and facing the powerful shells, there was nowhere to hide.

The gang of over eight hundred members was instantly decimated under the artillery barrage, the rest scattering like birds and beasts.

After the shelling stopped, the position was a mess, with severed limbs and arms everywhere, and blood staining the beach red.

The British Army began to charge ashore from the sea, pursuing the fleeing gang members.

Captain John led over thirty new recruits in the charge at the front.

He Yuzhu flashed out from his cover and sprinted at full speed toward the mountain top, reaching it again in over thirty minutes.

When he placed the wooden crate full of weapons heavily on the ground, everyone gasped—inside were two Bren light machine guns, thirteen M3 Submachine Guns, and a pile of ammunition.

"They used naval guns, the gang members have all been scattered, and now the whole island is full of deserters; the British should be here soon. Moreover, there is a British spy in the gang; no matter who wants to take this place of ours, we cannot be soft-hearted!" He Yuzhu said, panting heavily.

"Don't worry, unless I die, no one will be able to step in here!" Martin declared.

He Yuzhu turned to Liu Rusi and lowered his voice: "I'll leave the Cave for your people to guard; I'll take them to build a defensive position on the perimeter."

Liu Rusi nodded and quickly distributed the guns to her thirteen subordinates: "There will surely be a fierce battle tonight; after everyone gets familiar with the weapons, rest quickly and prepare to meet the enemy!"

"Yes!" the few replied in unison.

He Yuzhu summoned Martin and the other four to his side and said: "The five of us must establish a triangular defensive position on the perimeter, otherwise, we'll be surrounded in no time! We don't have much time left, hurry and dig the fortifications; they might use naval guns to bombard us!"

Martin nodded heavily, and the four began to dig fortifications desperately.

Not long after, a few fleeing gang members ran toward the mountain top.

He Yuzhu raised his Sniper Rifle and fired calmly.

The bullets drilled into the human bodies without a sound, followed by continuous screams.

Half an hour later, a platoon of the British Army rushed to the vicinity of the mountain top, intending to seize this commanding height.

The dozen or so who entered range first were picked off one by one by He Yuzhu using the Sniper Rifle.

After the remaining men charged up the mountain, they were met with the crossfire of the two light machine guns from Martin and the others.

In less than a quarter of an hour, the thirty-plus men were dead or wounded, with only two or three lucky enough to escape.

He Yuzhu knew clearly that a deserter would inevitably attract more enemies.

He quickly used his space to plant Landmines on several paths that were certain to be taken.

Not far away, Ge Laoda of the 14K was caught up to by more than thirty Royal Marines recruits led by Captain John.

He was already in poor health, and one of his arms had been wounded by a shell blast.

Two trusted aides supported him as they fled toward the mountain; seeing the British Army surging forward like a tide, he suddenly sat on the ground and refused to move, chuckling coldly: "Chunsheng, we are doomed this time. Give me a grenade, and I will fight them to the death!"

Chunsheng was stunned for a moment, then handed him a grenade and said: "Boss, I will go ahead to the Yellow Springs to scout the path for you!"

After speaking, he stood up from behind a rock, raised his Submachine Gun, and fired wildly at the British Army.

His sudden desperate struggle killed four or five British guys, but soon, he was turned into a target, his body riddled with holes like a sieve.

When a large group of the British Army rushed over, Ge Laoda pulled the pin on the grenade.

The recruit Sanchez had good luck; the shrapnel flying toward him was blocked by a rock beside him, but something still landed on his head—it was one of Ge Laoda's arms.

Sanchez looked by the moonlight and saw that there was actually something shining on that arm; it was a Gold watch.

He quickly took off the watch and stuffed it into his pocket.

Having chased all the way here, the number of recruits under Captain John had also decreased from over thirty to a dozen or so.

Just as he led the charge up the mountain, he stepped on a Landmine.

"Boom!"

He was blown into the sky.

Two recruits beside him also had their legs blown off, their shrill wails echoing through the mountains.

Ever since Sanchez touched Ge Laoda's Gold watch, his greed grew stronger and stronger. He thought to himself that the Landmines planted along the road further proved that a big shot was hiding on the mountain.

He said excitedly: "Brothers, the one hiding up there must be the boss of the 14K; he must have wealth on him, let's hurry up and charge to make a fortune!"

Hearing this, the dozen or so recruits immediately turned red-eyed, scattered, and charged upward desperately.

Successive explosions rang out immediately, and only then did they realize they had stepped into a death trap, but it was too late—the chain of Landmines claimed eleven lives.

In the end, only one soldier escaped down the mountain, rolling and crawling.

After hearing the report from this recruit, Major Luobinxun waved his hand at the 50 Royal Marines members beside him: "Let's go, we are going to chew on this hard bone!"
