Chapter 865: Back to the Base
In the Beijing hospital, Liu Siman is recovering quickly and is already able to stand and walk.
This day, Tian Dan comes to see her.
As soon as Liu Siman sees Tian Dan, she bursts into tears: "Dan, did my Siqiang go to avenge me? Will he be in danger? Those people aren't ordinary killers; their strikes are fast and ruthless."
"Don't worry about your Siqiang. Although he is a bit older, his skills haven't rusted." Tian Dan pulls a few photos from her bag. "Look, of the seven thugs who assassinated you, your Siqiang killed six and deliberately let one go, following that survivor to wipe out their nest."
Liu Siman looks at the hideous, terrifying faces in the photos, now turned into corpses. A trace of a smile finally appears at the corner of her mouth. It isn't that she is cruel; it is that she hates these people too much.
"They are just a bunch of cold-blooded animals! I never offended them at all, why would they want to kill me!" Liu Siman's eyes are full of flames of anger.
Tian Dan sneers: "After investigation, this all has an inseparable connection to the CIA. These people were all recruited by them at a high price."
Liu Siman grinds her teeth and says: "These people deserve to die!"
Tian Dan nods, "These people truly deserve to die. I heard that to save you, your Siqiang even used his Millennium Ginseng."
Liu Siman nods, her eyes red as she says: "Jiang Mei said that if not for Siqiang's ginseng, I might not have survived. Where is my Siqiang now? Is there any news?"
Tian Dan nods: "According to the intelligence gathered so far, he went to Myanmar. The CIA has a secret training base there, with over two thousand people, all desperate criminals they recruited from various countries to carry out assassinations."
Liu Siman's expression changes: "Then is my Siqiang really not in danger?"
"To say there is no danger at all would be a lie." Tian Dan pats her shoulder, "But based on my years of experience dealing with him, he won't have any major problems."
On He Yuzhu's side, after Danzeng agrees to let him join the team, the two head straight for the Northern Kachin State region of the Golden Triangle.
They are no longer driving that broken truck from before, but a stolen new pickup—swiped from a rich man's large estate.
On the road, He Yuzhu drives while pretending to be foolish, asking: "Who is the boss in your organization? How does the boss treat you? How much did you earn from this operation? What kind of entertainment do you have here?"
Danzeng squints his eyes and speaks indifferently: "Why do you talk so much?"
"I'm just worried, aren't I? Actually, I regretted coming with you. What if your leader is heartless and kills me?"
Danzeng snorts: "Won't happen. Although this is called a Training Camp, the management is very loose. Usually, when a mission comes up, the leader assigns work based on everyone's area of expertise, and we set off after agreeing on the commission. It's not as complicated as you think."
He Yuzhu shakes his head: "I see that you lost all six brothers this time; your leader definitely won't spare you, maybe even shoot you dead."
Danzeng punches him hard: "Crow's mouth! I'm not that unlucky. If you work hard with me, you'll soon be able to earn tens of thousands of US dollars and go back to your hometown to marry a wife."
"How many people have you killed? How much is in your account now?"
"I have at least over a hundred thousand US dollars sitting in my account. Don't worry, follow me, and I won't treat you poorly," Danzeng says.
He Yuzhu nods: "Actually, if given the chance, I could do big things too."
Danzeng curses: "You want to do big things, fine, but from now on you must listen to me, otherwise you won't live long."
He Yuzhu nods with a grin: "Then I'll have to ask for the boss's care. But you also have to remember, I'm the one who brought you here all the way; once we're on your turf, you have to look out for me too."
Along the way, the two use gestures and words, and surprisingly, the communication barrier gradually disappears.
Danzeng even starts to like this middle-aged man—He Yuzhu is always able to live off the land, whether it's picking wild mushrooms, fungi, or wild vegetables, or catching various small animals on the fly; filling his stomach is no problem at all.
After entering Myanmar and traveling for another three days, they finally arrive at the so-called "base."
It is a river valley area backed by mountains and facing a river.
He Yuzhu asks: "Is this the base we're going to?"
Danzeng nods and then shakes his head: "This is just one of the zones. More people are on a large piece of land behind that mountain." He points to a mountain in the distance.
As soon as the two enter the base, they are tied up by several fierce-looking men.
Danzeng explains for a long time, but the other side doesn't listen at all.
He Yuzhu doesn't understand a single word of the local language and can only stare blankly.
They are taken to a broken boat by the river.
He Yuzhu asks in a low voice: "Are we going to be shot?"
Danzeng shakes his head helplessly: "They got the news that our operation failed this time, and they want to interrogate me. You better be careful; maybe they'll drag you out to feed the dogs tomorrow."
He Yuzhu explodes upon hearing this: "Danzeng, why the hell didn't you tell me earlier? If you had told me earlier, I would have taken your three thousand dollars and run away long ago!"
Danzeng chuckles: "How the hell would I know? If I had known, I wouldn't have come back either."
He Yuzhu lies on the broken boat, listening to the wailing, painful sounds coming from other cabins from time to time, and immediately understands that this place is clearly a prison.
He sighs: "I'm really unlucky to have come with a jinx like you."
Danzeng curses: "Cut the crap, I didn't beg you to come, you came voluntarily, why are you blaming me?"
The two have Handcuffs on their hands and iron chains on their feet, bickering back and forth.
He Yuzhu says: "You guys are so ruthless to your own people, there's no good end for outsiders. I'm afraid I won't make it out alive this time."
Danzeng chuckles: "Not necessarily. Many people who failed their missions were eventually released."
He Yuzhu smiles bitterly: "You're really stupid. If you knew that failing the mission would lead to punishment, why did you come back? If I had hundreds of thousands of US dollars in my account, I would have run to Thailand to live a carefree life long ago. I heard many old European and American men go there to retire."
"I just wanted to earn more money before retiring," Danzeng lies.
The two are locked on the broken boat for two full days.
In those two days, apart from being given a ladle of water, they were only thrown a single rice ball.
He Yuzhu is so hungry his chest is touching his back, but his mouth never rests, cursing Danzeng and this broken base over and over.
Danzeng doesn't have a good temper to begin with, and being provoked by He Yuzhu, he also explodes, kicking the boat deck: "To tell you the truth, I came back this time to collect the final payment of one hundred thousand US dollars!"
He Yuzhu's eyes light up, and he leans in shamelessly: "If you get the one hundred thousand dollars, can you share some with me?"
Danzeng snorts coldly: "Considering you suffered with me all the way here, I'll give you five thousand."
"Only five thousand?" He Yuzhu lies on the boat deck for a long time without speaking.
Half an hour later, Danzeng asks: "Kid, your appetite isn't small, is it? I give you five thousand and you think it's too little?"
He Yuzhu sits up and says: "Your skills aren't bad either, why don't we escape? We can pull together our own team, do the same business here, take jobs and earn money, how satisfying that would be!"
Danzeng is almost laughed to anger: "Do you think this is playing house?"
He Yuzhu curls his lips and says nothing more.
On the third day, someone finally comes.
Lawang, the minor supervisor of this base, had a horse-like face and eyes as gloomy as a venomous snake.
He had people bring Danzeng onto a larger ship.
Lawang leaned back into a rattan chair and spoke slowly: "Danzeng, why did you come back alone? Where are the six brothers under your command?"
