Chapter 89: Wang Jiazhi's Revenge
"Killing Yi Xiansheng is not easy. Do you have absolute certainty?" Wang Jiazhi wrapped her bathrobe tighter, her voice trembling slightly from nervousness.
He Yuzhu leaned against the doorframe, his gaze sweeping over her slightly pale face, and a faint smile curled at the corner of his mouth: "As long as the money is paid, killing someone is a simple matter for me."
Wang Jiazhi avoided his burning gaze, feeling somewhat uncomfortable.
"I trust you! You want money, I will go get it for you now, I... I don't like owing others." She turned, rummaged through the wardrobe, threw on a cotton-padded jacket, and walked out in a hurry.
He Yuzhu followed behind her.
When Wang Jiazhi passed the several corpses in the corridor, the smell of blood made her cover her mouth abruptly and retch a few times, but her footsteps did not stop; she ran forward with quick, small steps.
He Yuzhu followed silently, the two of them passing through the veranda one after the other, arriving at the front hall.
Wang Jiazhi walked to a corner of the wall, laboriously moved a carved camphor wood chest, revealing a bluestone slab, and said: "There is a basement under here. You, you can go down!"
"I don't trust you, you go down first." He Yuzhu deliberately stood where he was, his gaze fixed on her.
Wang Jiazhi glanced at him, her tone carrying a hint of reproach, "The things are right below, take them or not, this stone slab is very heavy, I can't move it."
He Yuzhu stepped forward, hooked the edge of the slab with one hand, and with a slight exertion, moved the slab aside, revealing a pitch-black opening.
He took a military flashlight from his pocket and handed it to Wang Jiazhi, "You, go down first."
Wang Jiazhi turned on the flashlight, the beam of light piercing the darkness, and she carefully stepped down the narrow stone stairs.
There were not many stairs, and the two soon reached the bottom. This was a space of less than four square meters, the walls were lined with pine boards, and quicklime was placed in the four corners, so it was actually quite dry.
Six long wooden boxes and one brown leather suitcase were placed in the middle.
He Yuzhu nimbly opened a long wooden box and discovered that it was filled with scroll paintings wrapped layer by layer in oil paper, the paper even bearing golden spots.
These were all ancient paintings. His heart was gladdened, but he still pretended not to care, flipped through them casually, and sneered: "These are all just waste paper to them, not worth any money."
Wang Jiazhi glared at him and muttered in a low voice: "If you don't think much of these, then there is nothing here that you want."
"I want gold, big sister! Is there any here?" He Yuzhu asked with a raised eyebrow—in fact, he had already checked with the system's detection function and knew that there were only ten Small Yellow Fish and several hundred Big Ocean in the basement.
Wang Jiazhi squatted down, picked up the brown leather suitcase, and placed it on top of the other large boxes, "It should all be here."
He Yuzhu took the suitcase and opened it to look; it was indeed as he had expected: ten Small Yellow Fish were neatly arranged, and next to them were Big Ocean wrapped in red paper. "Take as much as you want," he waved his hand generously.
"You're letting me take it?" Wang Jiazhi opened her eyes in surprise, the flashlight in her hand shaking.
He Yuzhu nodded, his tone frank: "Since we are going to cooperate, you cannot be without money when you go to Nanjing. Don't be polite, this is an investment of mine, to earn more money."
Wang Jiazhi gave a bitter smile, thinking that this "robber" was quite generous with other people's property. She did not act coy, casually took fifty Big Ocean and two gold bars from the box, and stuffed them into the inner pocket of her coat.
"Let's go up!" He Yuzhu said.
Wang Jiazhi looked at those antiques, still somewhat reluctant, but He Yuzhu urged: "Hurry up, there's almost no air left here."
She turned and climbed up, holding the handrail, while He Yuzhu's intent stirred.
All the boxes in the basement vanished instantly, all taken into his space.
The two returned to the living room, and He Yuzhu lit the kerosene lamp on the table; the dim yellow light made the whole room look gloomy.
Wang Jiazhi pulled a map of Nanjing from the bookshelf against the wall, spread it out on the mahogany coffee table, traced her finger along the Qinhuai River area on the map, and pointed to a place, saying: "We will meet here in two days."
"I assume you can use makeup, and I can too. Let's not fail to recognize each other when we meet; let's have a contact code," He Yuzhu said.
"I will carry a red oil-paper umbrella, it's quite conspicuous. You ask me where this umbrella was bought." Wang Jiazhi's eyes steadied, and she continued: "I will say it was bought at a shop near Zhongshanling."
"Good, see you in two days."
He Yuzhu finished speaking and prepared to leave, but was called back by Wang Jiazhi.
"Can you dispose of the corpses? If someone enters the house, it will be exposed." Her voice carried a plea.
He Yuzhu nodded, turned and went into the courtyard, dragged all the corpses to the dry well in the Houyuan, threw them in one by one, then moved several large stones to fill the well mouth, and covered the stones with mud, leaving not a trace.
As for the bloodstains in the corridor, he let Wang Jiazhi handle them herself; if he stayed any longer, it would be dawn.
By the time He Yuzhu returned to the Liu residence, the east was already turning white like a fish's belly.
He snuck back into Pangzi's room on tiptoe, and not long after he lay down, he was shaken awake.
"Yuzhu, my brother said Miss Liu does not agree to rest and wants to leave immediately!" Liu Jinguo hung his head, his tone full of disappointment, his chubby face lacking its usual vitality.
He Yuzhu rubbed his eyes, sat up, and comforted him: "It's okay, if you are free and have nothing to do, you can come to Beiping to find me in the future."
"Really?" The little chubby man's eyes lit up instantly, and he grabbed his arm to ask.
"Of course, I'll give you my address later. Actually, taking the train doesn't take much time. When you come to Si Jiu Cheng, I'll make you Braised Pork and soy-sauce braised pig knuckles, and let you eat your fill." He Yuzhu patted his shoulder.
Walking out of the room, Battalion Commander Liu was already waiting in the courtyard. Seeing him come over, he said apologetically: "Sorry, Miss Liu didn't agree; she wants us to send the things over as soon as possible."
"It's fine, we had a good meal yesterday and have some energy now." He Yuzhu smiled, thinking that it was also good to go early.
The group set off again, and the little chubby man insisted on driving them part of the way; even when the car had driven a long distance, he still refused to go back.
He Yuzhu patted his shoulder: "Even a thousand-mile journey must have an end, go back! Remember to come to Beijing to find me later."
Only then did the little chubby man get out of the car reluctantly, standing by the roadside watching the convoy drive away, his small figure appearing somewhat lonely in the morning breeze.
In the car, Battalion Commander Liu smiled and teased: "You kid are something, meeting my brother once and you've already charmed his soul away."
"Look at what you're saying, as if we were lovers!" He Yuzhu retorted.
"I didn't mean that!" Battalion Commander Liu quickly explained, then asked curiously, "What exactly did you say to him?"
He Yuzhu looked at the fields passing by outside the window: "Didn't say much, just described the look of Si Jiu Cheng to him—there are lively alleys, delicious snacks, and theaters and teahouses; he just yearns for it a bit."
The group traveled through the night and finally arrived in Nanjing late the next day.
Because they had contacted them in advance, as soon as the convoy entered the city, someone came to take over the supplies, and He Yuzhu's escort mission was considered complete.
Battalion Commander Liu handed He Yuzhu a cigarette: "Miss Liu's meaning is for you to take the train back to Beijing as soon as possible; we still have to go to Shanghai to pick up some things."
He Yuzhu waved his hand and refused the cigarette: "Next time you call her, tell her I want to play in Nanjing for a few days, and I will definitely be able to go back when it's almost New Year."
Battalion Commander Liu shook his head helplessly: "You'd better call her yourself; I don't dare to pass that message for you."
"That works too." He Yuzhu smiled.
After parting ways with Battalion Commander Liu, early the next morning, He Yuzhu headed straight for the Chenji Beef Potsticker Shop by the Qinhuai River.
