Chapter 921: He Yuzhu Goes to Chuanfu

~10 min read 1,845 words

When Lao Qian's truck rushed to the edge of the cliff, his entire body was already slumped in the driver's seat, his hands gripping the steering wheel tightly as a desperate howl escaped his mouth. His life was as good as over here.

But the very moment the wheels left the ground, a formless, immense force suddenly sucked the entire truck inside.

Lao Qian only felt his vision go black, and his consciousness cut out instantly.

Behind a giant rock, He Yuzhu slowly withdrew his consciousness, a faint, almost imperceptible smile appearing at the corner of his mouth.

He was in no rush to leave; leaning against the cold rock wall, he replayed the driver's recent cursing in his mind.

The implications in those words made the vague notion in He Yuzhu's mind gradually become clear—the mole in the convoy was likely bought off by Cui Dan.

Hei Pao had not expected He Yuzhu to arrive at the scene and had deliberately concealed the matter of Wang Jianchen.

Seen in this light, Hei Pao could not be kept.

And this Wang Jianchen in the convoy also had to be captured.

For four trucks to be sabotaged to that extent simultaneously, Wang Jianchen couldn't have pulled it off alone; if there weren't CIA agents involved in this, he would twist his own head off and kick it like a ball.

He Yuzhu took a deep breath, focused his consciousness once more, and using the same method, took the third and fourth trucks that were about to plummet off the cliff into his space as well.

The valley suddenly fell silent, save for the crows on the cliff face that had been startled, flapping their wings and cawing, as if they had been frightened by something invisible.

He Yuzhu leaned against the back of the giant rock, flicked a cigarette into his mouth, and with a *click* of his lighter, the orange-red glow briefly illuminated his brow and eyes.

He took a couple of hard drags, looked up, and saw a string of headlights winding down the mountain road like a giant python.

He Yuzhu stubbed out the cigarette, pulled out his phone, and dialed He Mu, "Help me check the license plate number of the vehicle Wang Jianchen is driving."

Three minutes later, the information arrived.

He Yuzhu stared at the number on the screen, narrowed his eyes, and looked back up at the string of headlights drawing closer.

He activated his Scanning Function and discovered that the license plate of the first vehicle was indeed the one Wang Jianchen was driving.

He Yuzhu held his breath, and when the vehicle drove close, he moved his consciousness again, directly taking Wang Jianchen, along with the person and the cargo, into his space.

With no one at the steering wheel, the vehicle quickly veered to one side, its tires scraping the ground as it rushed past the guardrail and vanished instantly over the cliff's edge.

Immediately following, a loud boom came from the bottom of the valley.

A massive fireball surged into the air, the orange-red glow leaping up and illuminating half the stone wall as if it were broad daylight.

The sharp sound of metal twisting and shattering mixed into the explosion, and burning fragments wrapped in sparks splattered everywhere like a meteor shower falling in reverse.

The driver of the vehicle behind was instantly stunned.

He slammed his foot onto the brake, the wheels locked, and a piercing screech tore through the night sky.

Fortunately, the truck managed to stop right at the edge of the accident site without falling over.

The driver, Lao Zhao, was trembling all over; he fumbled to unbuckle his seatbelt and scrambled out of the passenger side in a panic, his legs as soft as noodles.

Shortly after, the vehicles behind also slowly came to a halt.

He Yuzhu didn't spare another glance and turned to walk down the mountain road.

His pace was fast, and after walking a distance, he stopped in front of a hidden rock wall, pushed aside the hanging vines, and revealed a naturally formed Cave.

The cave was dry, and the ground was covered in gravel.

He Yuzhu moved his consciousness, and Wang Jianchen was released from the space; he opened his eyes, his pupils shrinking violently.

He Yuzhu was squatting right in front of him, his face no more than half a meter away, and a large floodlight was placed beside them.

Seeing He Yuzhu, a layer of cold sweat instantly broke out on Wang Jianchen's back.

He recognized this man; who in Liu Shi Trading didn't know him? The Boss's own father, rumored to be wealthier than a nation, an invisible tycoon.

Yet he insisted on playing dumb. He struggled to scoot backward, leaned against the rock wall, and asked, "You... are you Boss He? Why did you bring me here? The convoy... someone from the convoy fell off the cliff! You need to go save them quickly!"

He was acting quite convincingly.

He Yuzhu didn't take his bait and looked down at him, "Still recognize me? That makes things easier. You don't need to worry about saving people. I'll just ask you one thing: the brakes and throttle cables of all four trucks were tampered with; it doesn't look like something you could have done alone."

Wang Jianchen immediately changed his expression, his mouth stretching wide as he began to wail, "Boss! You're wronging me to death! I'm the Deputy Captain of the convoy; what good would it do me to ruin the convoy?"

"Good?" He Yuzhu sneered, "I think you took quite a bit of money."

"No! Really, no!" Wang Jianchen raised his hands, swearing by his ancestors.

"If you confess honestly, I'll drag out the people behind this, and your crime might be lighter. If you keep your mouth shut and let that gang get away, I'll pin those lives lost over the cliff entirely on you. Weigh it yourself."

Wang Jianchen swallowed hard, his eyeballs spinning rapidly in their sockets, "Boss He, where did the four trucks fall? Why didn't I see any firelight?"

He Yuzhu was impressed by this man; even now, he still wanted to clarify the truth of the situation.

"Don't play dumb with me; I don't like beating around the bush. If you don't talk, I'll kill you right now."

Wang Jianchen was a desperado, true, but desperadoes understood one principle best—companions are born to be sold out.

"There were five people..." His voice dropped, carrying a reckless, desperate edge, "All Chinese-Americans; they did the tampering at the previous hotel. If you go chase them now, you might still make it."

"Names, physical descriptions, which direction they went," He Yuzhu asked, word by word.

Wang Jianchen fell to his knees on the sandy ground with a thud and said, "Boss, I'll talk! I'll tell you everything! But if I talk... can you spare my life?"

He Yuzhu didn't wait for him to finish; he stepped forward, his palm directly gripping the back of Wang Jianchen's neck, his five fingers tightening like iron pincers clamping onto a prey's throat: "If you try to bargain with me again, I'll snap it right now."

Wang Jianchen's face turned red instantly, his hands clawing wildly: "I'll talk, I'll talk! I was just a messenger! The ones who did it were those five people! I was just helping them keep watch..."

"Don't try to play tricks on me." He Yuzhu added another ounce of force; Wang Jianchen was lifted entirely off the ground by him, and with the slightest bit more effort, his neck would break; his feet kicked wildly in mid-air.

"I'll talk! I'll tell you everything!" He Yuzhu then put him down. Wang Jianchen took a few gasping breaths before saying, "They... one of them let it slip that they were going to play at the bar street in Tianfu. If I'm not mistaken, they are already there today..."

He Yuzhu stared at him for three seconds, confirmed he was no longer holding anything back, and suddenly delivered a hand-blade strike to the side of his neck.

Wang Jianchen didn't even let out a groan; his eyes rolled back, and he collapsed to the ground.

He Yuzhu moved his consciousness again and took the person back into the space.

He turned and exited the cave, walked quickly to the side of the mountain road, released his own car, pulled the door open, and sat inside; the engine roared, tearing through the night.

He glanced down at the dashboard—ten minutes past midnight.

He Yuzhu cursed under his breath; if this gang finished playing tonight and left tomorrow, he wouldn't even be able to find a trace of them.

He slammed his foot onto the accelerator, and the car, like a shell out of a cannon, roared along the mountain road toward Chuanfu.

By the time he drove the car to the edge of the city, a layer of grayish, fish-belly white had already appeared on the horizon.

He Yuzhu wanted to nap for a while, but the string in his mind was pulled too tight; he feared that if he closed his eyes, that group of people would slip away on an early morning flight.

He turned the steering wheel and headed straight for the airport.

If those people were going to run, they certainly wouldn't take the train; taking a plane was the best choice.

He parked the car in the parking lot, rushed into the terminal in two or three strides, and waited at the international departure gate.

He activated the system's Scanning Function and began monitoring every face that passed by.

As it turned out, this vigil lasted an entire day.

From the first light of dawn until the sun slanted to the west, he didn't see those five people at all.

After the last flight to overseas took off, He Yuzhu finally stood up from a bench.

He left the airport, drove back to the city, checked into a hotel, and without even taking off his coat, he collapsed onto the bed and slept for a few hours.

When he opened his eyes again, it was pitch black outside the window, and the clamor of the streets seeped in through the cracks in the window.

He Yuzhu washed his face and went downstairs to hail a taxi.

The taxi driver was a middle-aged man in his forties; He Yuzhu pulled open the back door, sat in, and handed over a hundred-yuan bill: "Driver, let me ask you something."

The driver glanced back at the bill, his eyelids twitching: "Go ahead."

"Around Chuanfu, what kind of bars do foreigners like to go to at night?"

The driver thought for a moment and said: "If you're looking for that kind of place, you have to go to Minshan South Road. That whole area is full of bars; once night falls, the entire street is like a boiling pot, and it stays rowdy until the early hours of the morning."

He Yuzhu nodded: "Alright, take me there now."
