Chapter 927: Run
He Yuzhu kicked his legs into gear and sprinted madly toward the fire, leaving Manager Liu behind so quickly that he vanished from sight in the blink of an eye.
Only when he reached the scene did he realize that the fire was merely in a small warehouse; several warehouse keepers were clutching fire extinguishers and scrambling to put it out, while sparks crackled and popped in every direction.
He Yuzhu's heart sank abruptly, and he grabbed a security guard nearby who was fighting the fire: "Brother, what is stored in this warehouse?"
"It's all piping and electrical wires, leftover scraps from when the main building was completed. There are few people here, and the security was lax to begin with. Who knows who set the fire on purpose!" the security guard said, his chest full of pent-up anger.
It was clear that he hadn't taken this small fire to heart at all.
But He Yuzhu couldn't feel relaxed in the slightest; his entire nervous system went taut in an instant.
If it were truly spies causing trouble, this single fire wouldn't be enough to shake the entire construction project; yet, to say it was purely an accident seemed far too coincidental.
He took a deep breath, and a thought pierced his mind like a sharp blade—a feint to the east to attack in the west.
At this moment, Liu Yanzhong finally caught up, drenched in sweat, his chest heaving violently, his wheezing sounding like a broken bellows.
He Yuzhu grabbed his arm and lowered his voice: "Manager Liu, I am He Yuzhu, from the He Group. Let me be frank with you: I am here specifically to track down the bad actors causing sabotage. I didn't want to disturb you initially..."
Before he could finish, Liu Yanzhong hurriedly interrupted: "I could tell at first glance that you were no ordinary person—so you are Boss He! Hu Bayi mentions you to me all the time; my ears are practically calloused from hearing your great name!"
"Let's set the pleasantries aside for now." He Yuzhu cut him off directly, gesturing with his chin toward the burning warehouse, "There is a high probability that those bad actors set this fire on purpose, using it as a diversion to draw everyone's attention here so they can cause trouble elsewhere. Think quickly: where on the construction site is the most critical, where it cannot afford to have an incident?"
Liu Yanzhong's face turned deathly pale in a flash. He racked his brains for a long time before stammering a reply: "The... the most critical is the fifty-story main building. It just topped out and is undergoing interior renovation; if it's blown up, the losses will be at least a hundred million! The supporting shopping mall also absolutely cannot have an incident, and besides..."
"Notify everyone on the site immediately: stop work entirely! Arrange for personnel to scatter and search for suspicious individuals!" He Yuzhu issued the order on the spot.
"But we don't have enough security personnel!" Liu Yanzhong said, wringing his hands in anxiety.
"If you don't have enough manpower, call the police immediately." He Yuzhu's tone was concise, without a hint of hesitation.
Liu Yanzhong scrambled to take out his phone, dialing the numbers of various department heads and supervisors one by one, his voice trembling uncontrollably as he spoke.
He Yuzhu couldn't be bothered to pay him any more mind; he turned and sprinted toward the fifty-story main building three miles away.
He hadn't run far when a foreman on a motorcycle came toward him, a toolbox firmly strapped to the back of the bike.
He Yuzhu didn't say a word; he rushed forward, grabbed the man by the back of his collar, pulled him straight off the bike, swung himself onto the motorcycle, twisted the throttle to the max, and left behind a single sentence: "I'm commandeering this vehicle; go report it to Manager Liu later!"
The foreman stood there stunned, scratching the back of his head and muttering under his breath: "Who is this guy? He's practically a bandit!"
He Yuzhu twisted the throttle to the maximum, the motorcycle racing like a bolt of lightning to the foot of the high-rise. He tossed the bike aside and sprinted into the building.
Just as he reached the stairwell, he bumped into two men rushing down from upstairs in a panic.
The way the two were dressed and their manner of walking looked completely out of place for construction workers; there was something strange about them.
He Yuzhu stepped across to block the stairwell, completely sealing their path: "Stop! What are you two doing? Why are you running around so sneakily?"
Seeing that He Yuzhu was wearing a set of ragged clothes, one of them immediately became arrogant, pointing at his nose and cursing: "A stinking laborer, and you dare to meddle in your grandfather's business?"
Before the words had even faded, He Yuzhu stepped forward and swung his arm in a wide arc, slapping him hard across the face.
With a crisp "crack," the man spun halfway around on the spot, half of his cheek visibly swelling up instantly. "I'm going to meddle in this business today, that's for sure!"
The other man was no pushover either; he grabbed a wooden stick from nearby and smashed it down hard toward the top of He Yuzhu's head.
He Yuzhu lowered his head to dodge easily, then seized the opportunity to kick the man hard in the chest. The man was sent flying three meters away, his back slamming heavily against the wall with a dull groan of pain.
The two still wanted to reach into their clothes to pull something out, but He Yuzhu showed no mercy, dislocating both of their arms in a few swift moves.
He fished two pairs of Handcuffs out of his backpack and cuffed the two of them to the stair railing separately.
At this point, the two finally panicked completely, their faces turning deathly pale.
But what they feared wasn't He Yuzhu; it was the Timed Bomb planted upstairs, which was about to reach its countdown and detonate.
He Yuzhu stared at the two with icy eyes, a bone-chilling coldness in his gaze: "Confess honestly, what did you set up upstairs?"
The two looked at each other, biting their teeth shut, refusing to utter a single word.
But the panic they couldn't hide in their eyes had already been fully captured by He Yuzhu.
He raised his voice and roared toward the depths of the stairwell: "Attention all workers! There is a bomb in the building, it's about to explode, evacuate immediately! Move fast!"
The workers had just received the notice to stop work and were slowly packing up their tools to head downstairs. When they heard the word "bomb," the scene instantly erupted into chaos; everyone shoved and crowded as they sprinted downward, cries and shouts blending into one.
A First Team of security guards arrived in a hurry upon hearing the commotion, and He Yuzhu immediately revealed his identity: "I am He Yuzhu of the He Group. Keep a close eye on these two; you must not let them get away."
After saying this, he tossed out the keys to the two pairs of Handcuffs.
The group of security guards looked at each other, still harboring some doubt.
A young security guard in the group reacted very quickly and immediately spoke up: "Manager Liu called just now and said spies had infiltrated the site! Boss He must be here to catch them; let's just follow orders and keep a close eye on them!"
Once he said this, the other security guards immediately stepped forward and surrounded the two.
The young security guard solemnly promised: "Don't worry, Boss He, we will watch them without leaving their side!"
He Yuzhu didn't delay any longer; he turned and rushed into the stairwell, taking three steps at a time, his climbing speed astonishingly fast.
By the time he found the explosive device hidden on the floor, there were only three minutes left on his watch's countdown.
His heart sank.
Even if the bomb here was successfully dismantled, there were hidden dangers in other areas, and there was simply no time to check them one by one.
There was no time to lose. After dismantling this bomb, he didn't return the way he came via the stairs; he pushed open a window and, like an agile monkey, grabbed the exterior scaffolding and slid down.
With his hands and feet moving in rapid alternation, he descended the dozens of stories in a mere five seconds.
As soon as his feet hit the ground, He Yuzhu's body sprang forward like a coiled spring.
For the supporting shopping mall over three hundred meters away, he had only two minutes left.
At this moment, his mind was clear of all distractions; only one thought remained—run at full speed.
By the time he rushed to the entrance of the shopping mall, the watch system popped up a notification: there were only a few dozen seconds left. He Yuzhu's heart instantly jumped into his throat. To be honest, even if the mall were blown up, he had enough financial resources to cover the full loss.
But in the moment he hesitated, a clanging sound of hammering reached his ears—there were still renovation workers inside the mall, and they hadn't received the evacuation notice at all, remaining inside.
He Yuzhu couldn't help but curse under his breath.
There was no way back; he had to bite the bullet and charge in.
This shopping mall was at least four or five hundred meters deep, filled with scaffolding and various building materials, as chaotic as a demolition site, with broken bricks and tangled, messy wires covering the floor.
As he sprinted forward at top speed, he scanned his surroundings rapidly, his heart pounding so hard it felt like it was going to burst through his throat.
In the end, he was only an ordinary person, not an omnipotent god; once the bomb detonated, he would likewise be unable to escape death.
When he had run to one-third of the way through the shopping mall, the system prompt suddenly rang out in his mind.
【System Prompt: The bomb is located inside the inner side of the pillar one hundred meters ahead.】
He Yuzhu lowered his head and glanced at his watch; seven seconds remained.
A distance of one hundred meters, with the ground cluttered by debris, and only seven seconds of time.
