Chapter 928: The Retaliation Has Begun
He Yuzhu suddenly exerted force under his feet, his speed a full five times that of an ordinary person.
By the time he rushed the last few dozen meters, his physical strength was long since exhausted. He secretly made up his mind that once this batch of spies was completely cleared out, he would definitely retire for good. A person truly has to admit when they are getting old; back in the Korean War, he could stay spirited even without sleep for several days, but now, having run for less than an hour, he was exhausted to this state—he really was no longer up to it.
Tick... tick...
The system amplified the sound of the timed bomb ahead infinitely, echoing in He Yuzhu's mind like a literal death warrant.
With only ten meters left, every ounce of strength in his body was nearly drained. He Yuzhu gritted his teeth, used the last remaining strength in his body, and let out a low roar: "Store!"
He had never tried this before—storing a bomb about to detonate into his Storage Space—and he had no confidence at all, completely unsure if this bomb would blow a hole straight through the space.
But right now, there was no room for him to think; he could only take the gamble and store the bomb inside.
A few agonizing seconds passed, and no sound of an explosion came from within the space.
It seems this Storage Space is truly extraordinary.
Just at this moment, a "Ding-dong!" system notification sound rang out abruptly, and the system actually deducted fifty jin of gold from him directly.
"Damn it!" He Yuzhu couldn't help but curse under his breath.
"Thump."
The crisis that had been stretched to the limit was completely resolved, and an overwhelming wave of exhaustion instantly swept over his entire body. He could no longer hold on, falling straight backward onto the ground.
His clothes were already soaked through with cold sweat, his chest heaving violently, and he felt such bitterness in his heart that his eyes nearly reddened.
At this time, the renovation workers working nearby slowly stopped their work and gathered around to look at him as he lay on the ground.
"Hey, buddy, what happened to you?"
"Could it be a heart attack?"
The workers surrounded him, discussing it in a clamor.
"Boom!"
A deafening, earth-shattering roar exploded!
He Yuzhu jolted, flipped over to sit up abruptly, and without a word, turned and sprinted toward the outside of the construction site.
The workers watching the spectacle nearby were all scared out of their wits by the loud noise; finally realizing something was wrong, they followed He Yuzhu and fled outward together.
"Run! Something big is happening!" a foreman roared at the top of his lungs.
Just as He Yuzhu rushed out of the shopping mall entrance, he looked up and saw the dozen-story office building in the distance, as if it had been viciously bitten in half by a giant beast; the hideous, broken ends of steel bars and concrete were exposed, stabbing straight into the gray, hazy sky. The air was filled with choking dust, mixed with the pungent, burnt smell of scorched electrical wires.
The shrill sound of sirens approached from afar, and the construction workers, not knowing what had happened, all fled for their lives toward the open ground.
He Yuzhu did not crowd into the gathering masses, instead walking quickly toward the construction site gate.
He knew clearly that those spies had likely taken the opportunity to slip away, but even if there was only a slim hope, he had to guard here and try his luck—what if there were still stragglers who hadn't managed to retreat?
Arriving at the construction site gate, he happened to see several security guards stopping vehicles entering and exiting one by one for careful verification.
He Yuzhu felt a slight relief in his heart; it seemed that kid Hu Bayi had taken the safety matters he had previously emphasized to heart. Although the enemy had still managed to find a loophole in the end, this site had dozens of construction material vehicles entering and exiting every day—sand trucks, mixer trucks, steel trailers coming and going constantly—so wanting to strictly guard and block anyone with ill intent was as difficult as ascending to heaven.
He did not walk out of the gate immediately, but leaned against the wall of the security room, lit a cigarette, and locked his gaze firmly on every vehicle preparing to drive out of the site.
Not long after, a sturdy-looking Security Captain carrying an electric baton walked over quickly, looking He Yuzhu up and down carefully, his tone full of vigilance: "What are you doing standing here?"
He Yuzhu's expression was calm as he leisurely took out his ID card and handed it over: "Your gate access control looks quite strict, yet in the end, you still let evildoers mix in."
The captain took the ID card, his gaze falling on the three characters "He Yuzhu," and his face turned deathly pale instantly, his speech stuttering: "Master He... I am truly sorry! We checked every vehicle entering and exiting one by one; we really don't know how these people managed to sneak in..."
He Yuzhu stubbed out his cigarette, ground it under his shoe, and reached out to pat his shoulder: "This matter isn't entirely your fault; the enemy has many ways to hide people, for example, by modifying hidden compartments in sand trucks..."
The Security Captain froze on the spot, his Adam's apple bobbing continuously, and it took a long time before he managed to squeeze out a sentence: "Hidden compartments... we indeed didn't check those carefully..."
He Yuzhu patted his shoulder again, his tone deepening: "From now on, all vehicles entering and exiting, no matter what materials they are carrying, must be thoroughly checked to the end. If there is another slip-up, you won't need to be the Security Captain anymore."
"Yes! I will arrange it immediately! I guarantee every vehicle will be strictly checked!" The captain stood at attention abruptly, his voice cracking with excitement, and he turned to give loud orders into his walkie-talkie.
He Yuzhu guarded the construction site gate for a full three hours, but from beginning to end, he did not discover any suspicious personnel.
He shook his head lightly in disappointment, preparing to leave this place.
Just then, a black Mercedes slowly pulled up beside him.
Hu Bayi, Wang Pangzi, Xu Damao, and Dajinya, with his hands tucked into his pockets, stepped out of the car.
As soon as the old brothers saw him, they immediately hurried over and surrounded him, looking him up and down.
Dajinya spoke first, his face full of admiration: "Master He, you really are capable; you don't look old at all!"
Xu Damao, however, was in no mood for jokes, his gaze fixed on the office building in the distance that was still smoking, his brows furrowed: "Zhuzi, how did you let the other side succeed this time?"
Wang Pangzi flared up on the spot, raising his hand to slap the back of Xu Damao's head: "Why is your mouth so foul, kid! Master He, don't pay any attention to this brainless guy; hurry and tell us about that narrow escape just now!"
He Yuzhu shook his head lightly, his tone carrying a hint of exhaustion: "I'm old, my legs and feet can't keep up anymore."
Hu Bayi said: "Master He, tell me about it! I can see today's incident is no small matter."
Only then did He Yuzhu recount everything that happened today.
After hearing it, Xu Damao slapped himself hard across the face on the spot, his face full of remorse: "It's all my own big mouth's fault! If Zhuzi hadn't held the line today, our entire project would have lost so much we wouldn't even have our underwear left!"
He Yuzhu waved his hand, his expression solemn: "This group's target was me from the start; it is my fault for implicating everyone and making you all worry... I only caught two spies just now, and they have already been handed over to the public security; we have no authority to intervene in the follow-up handling."
Hu Bayi said in a low voice: "Zhuzi, the family assets and businesses we brothers have now were all earned thanks to you. Whatever you arrange, we will cooperate; we listen to you entirely."
He Yuzhu said: "At this stage, we can only reinforce security, arrange trusted personnel to patrol and keep watch in layers, and hold individuals responsible..."
"Good, I'll go arrange it immediately!" Hu Bayi said.
Dajinya suddenly asked: "Master He, I heard an Electronics Factory in the suburbs was bombed; does this have any connection to today's attack?"
He Yuzhu nodded: "That place was the spies' den; the basement hid a spy Training Camp, and the roof was even equipped with a dedicated Radar."
Xu Damao's heart tightened, his face full of worry: "Zhuzi, will they turn around and target us personally?"
He Yuzhu smiled faintly, his eyes revealing a sharp edge: "Not for the time being... If they dare to bomb one of my buildings, I will bomb a hundred of theirs and see if they can afford to keep up."
He Yuzhu handled the follow-up matters of the construction site with Hu Bayi and the others, then prepared to leave, but Hu Bayi insisted on holding him back, demanding that everyone eat a meal together to calm their nerves.
Today's incident could be considered a narrow escape; the damaged office building had received a stop-work notice issued by Liu Yanzhong long before the explosion, and the internal personnel had all evacuated, so fortunately there were no casualties, though the building was severely damaged and the losses were not small.
Since he hadn't been able to capture the spy leader on the spot, He Yuzhu didn't linger any longer and set off directly for Dadao.
In just a few short days, he had successively wiped out several of their intelligence agencies, as well as those factories controlled by M Country.
In one month, he turned this island upside down.
A large number of foreign-funded enterprises withdrew their capital and left one after another, and the local stock market plummeted all the way, falling to its lowest point in history.
It was not until Secretary Liu personally made a phone call that He Yuzhu finally set off on his return journey.
