Chapter 31: Chu Xuan: I Have a Fifty Percent Chance (Seek Follow-Read! Seek Collection!)
“Yes and no.”
Chu Xuan shook his head: “I’m not directly activating the self-destruct system—I plan to first manually detonate areas that won’t compromise the ship’s structure, to provoke fear in the Alien Queen.”
“If you’ve seen the movies, you should notice that the Alien species, in every version, shows an intense desire to survive and reproduce.”
“So to ensure survival, the Alien Queen, as leader, will spare no cost, sending more and stronger Aliens to attack us, to prevent the ship’s destruction.”
“At that point, the Alien Queen will reveal her hidden location—and with your strength, eliminating her in a weakened state shouldn’t be difficult.”
“Of course, there’s also the worst-case scenario: the Main God counts Alien eggs and Facehuggers as part of the Alien-clearing mission.”
“These are nearly impossible to fully eliminate by normal means, so the self-destruct program is a last resort—usable just as the ship nears Earth… after all, if the ship is gone, whether the Aliens live or die, the mission should still count as complete.”
Chu Xuan spoke these final words with casual indifference, as if discussing the detonation of a spaceship were no more significant than smashing a toy.
His utter detachment—the coldness toward his own life and death—sent chills through everyone except Wu Xian.
“Chu Xuan, how confident are you in this plan? And… what if our bombs accidentally trigger a critical system and cause a chain reaction? Could the ship explode prematurely?”
Wu Xian broke the heavy silence, his gaze sharp as he stared at Chu Xuan: “Tell me the truth. If we make it back to the Main God, I’ll make you pay for your arrogance.”
“...I have a fifty percent chance of success.”
After a moment of silence, Chu Xuan answered: “Your scenario is possible, but I believe it’s worth trying.”
Damn. Classic fifty percent chance.
Wu Xian’s lips twitched; he had a thousand complaints but didn’t know where to start.
“Are you insane?! You’d risk this on a fifty percent shot?!”
Zheng Zha stepped forward, eyes bloodshot, grabbing Chu Xuan’s collar and snarling: “Fifty percent? You’re gambling with everyone’s lives! Who the hell do you think you are?!”
“Zheng Zha, let go.”
Wu Xian’s voice came from behind.
“Captain!”
Zheng Zha stared in disbelief: “You’re not actually buying his bullshit, are you?”
“Of course… not.”
Wu Xian smiled faintly, then stepped forward, locking eyes with Chu Xuan through his reflective white glasses, before speaking:
“I must admit, your idea is aggressive—but it’s a sound strategy. Unfortunately, the risks and variables are too great. I’ve always despised gambling, so I’m sorry—I won’t approve this plan.”
“Why?”
For the first time since waking, Chu Xuan showed a look of confusion: “With your intellect, you should understand this maximizes our gains—with a fifty percent success rate. Success means enormous reward points for everyone here. The cost is worth it.”
“What’s ‘worth it’ varies by person. For me, survival is paramount—reward points come second…”
Also, you want to prove your wisdom and boldness by taking command of this team—that’s fine, I don’t mind. But if you treat my team members’ lives as pawns and bargaining chips, I won’t tolerate it.
Wu Xian kept smiling, but his tone turned icy by the end.
Instantly, the air in the main control room dropped eight degrees—even the newcomers outside the compartment shivered unconsciously.
“Alright, let’s get to the real matter.”
Wu Xian retracted his aura and spoke softly: “Actually… I have another method. It might locate the Alien Queen.”
Chu Xuan frowned: “Why didn’t you mention this sooner?”
“Because like you, I can’t guarantee a hundred percent success. If this fails, I hope you can come up with a more reliable plan—one that lets most of us survive and return to the Main God.”
Because like you, I can’t guarantee a 100% success rate, so if it still fails in the end, I hope you can come up with a more reliable plan—at least one that lets most of the people here return alive to the Main God Space.
“Come here, Zhan Lan. I need your help.”
Come here, Zhan Lan, we still need your help with this.
Zhan Lan pointed at herself, bewildered—then realized everyone in the room was staring at her. Her face flushed with embarrassment.
“Captain, you’re joking, right? What can I possibly do? If you mean my mental scan ability, my maximum range is only a kilometer—and even that’s imprecise. For the entire Nostromo, it’s useless.”
Zhan Lan, true to her novel-reader nature, instantly guessed why Wu Xian wanted her help.
But again: she simply couldn’t do it.
Reality isn’t a Rexue anime—shouting “bonding” or “hope” won’t suddenly unlock hidden power. At least, not for her.
“One person alone won’t work—but what if I join you?”
Wu Xian smiled, then tapped his own forehead.
“Don’t forget—technically, I’m also a mental force controller. But I’ve focused all my talent on combat, not perception. I never trained perception-based skills.”
“You, however… Zhan Lan, your innate talent for mental perception is exceptional. Just by enhancing one variant of the mutant gene for telepathy, you’ve developed mental scanning and mental chain abilities. With time, you’ll become a top-tier mental controller—even the core of the Zhongzhou team.”
But you’re different… Zhan Lan, you have a high talent for psychic perception; just by enhancing a mutant gene for telepathy, you’ve already figured out psychic scanning and psychic chain abilities. With time, you’ll surely become a top-tier psychic controller, even the core of the Zhongzhou team.
Zhan Lan sighed helplessly. Becoming core of the Zhongzhou team? Too distant. She was practical—she just wanted to survive in the Main God space.
Zhan Lan smiled helplessly. Becoming the core of the Zhongzhou team was far too distant—she was practical, and all she wanted was to survive well in the Main God Space.
Wu Xian said seriously: “You have the talent. Your results are weak because your mental energy is insufficient. I can supply that.”
“You mean… you’ll lend your mental energy to Zhan Lan, so she can scan the entire Nostromo and find the Alien Queen’s hiding place?”
Chu Xuan interjected, sparking a flicker of hope in the others.
“Is that even possible—to lend mental energy?”
Zhan Lan stared, incredulous.
“Have you seen X-Men? Professor X used a telepathic amplifier to boost his mental power to an unimaginable level—enough to scan the entire Earth and pinpoint a mutant’s mental signature.”
Wu Xian said seriously: “I can do something similar. A former companion taught me this. I have an eighty percent chance of success. The only side effect is brain damage.”
“But your self-healing factor should prevent serious harm. Once we return to the Main God, it’ll be fully repaired—and I’ll cover the reward points.”
