Chapter 5: The No-Integrity Subtitle Group and the Death Stairs (Please Follow!)

~6 min read 1,050 words

【Ding!】

【Obtained 3 vials of T-virus and 3 vials of T-virus vaccine; D-rank subplot completed; reward points awarded: 900】

“900 points? So that’s 150 per vial? Hmm, not bad—though the real value isn’t in the reward points anyway.”

After using his storage item to retrieve the metal cases containing the T-virus serum and vaccine, Wu Xian heard the Master God’s prompt; without explaining anything to Zheng Zha or the others, he simply said, “Keep up,” and hurried forward, catching up with the mercenary team in three strides.

“I want to know who you are—and what exactly happened here?”

As time passed, the female lead Alice finally began her plotline, questioning the mercenary team leader Ma Xiu about Umbrella Corporation and the Hive.

Here’s a little-known fact: according to the true translation of the Resident Evil films, this Black mercenary team leader shouldn’t be called Ma Xiu—he’s actually James Sheppard.

The reason for this discrepancy is that when Z Da wrote this book, he watched pirated movies.

After all, this was a 2007 work, an era when pirated films and shameless subtitle groups ran rampant; absurd translations were everywhere—not just for minor character names, but even movie titles were often wildly mistranslated.

For instance, before his transmigration, Wu Xian had once seen a U.S. film on a pirated site titled “Chastity Monument”; he was baffled at first, but upon clicking in, discovered it was actually “Moulin Rouge.”

Then there’s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” translated as “Mr. Smith vs. Mrs. Smith”;

“Lolita” became “A Pear Tree Pressing Down on Haitang ”;

“The Shawshank Redemption” was called “Stimulus 1995”…

In short, it was utterly insane!

On the other side, the Resident Evil plot continued: Alice’s dialogue with the Black team leader matched the film scene almost exactly, leaving the members of the Central Plains Team behind them with strange expressions—they still couldn’t adjust to seeing movie scenes unfold before their eyes.

It wasn’t until Alice suddenly pointed at them and asked about their identities that they finally panicked.

Clearly, they hadn’t listened to Wu Xian’s warning—or perhaps they clung to luck, believing themselves outsiders to reality, as if merely avoiding the monstrous creatures would spare them all danger.

But reality slapped them hard—swiftly, brutally—and their faces turned pale. Even Zheng Zha, the protagonist, instantly went white, already imagining himself being devoured by zombies.

Wu Xian shook his head, though he felt little mockery inside.

To be fair, this was the normal human reaction—if he hadn’t been a transmigrator, his own behavior upon entering A Nightmare on Elm Street wouldn’t have been much better than theirs.

Soon, after Ma Xiu introduced the Central Plains Team members using the information provided by the Master God, a voice came from above the platform: the long-haired female mercenary reported, “Commander, the main door is clear—we can enter now.”

Ma Xiu nodded to his men, then turned to the rest of the Central Plains Team—except Wu Xian—and sighed.

Clearly, he resented dragging along these dead weights, but the client had paid too well to refuse; he gritted his teeth, gave Wu Xian a single instruction as the security team leader, then turned and led the mercenaries toward the door.

What followed needed no elaboration: they marveled at Umbrella Corporation’s far-ahead-of-its-time technology, then, after finally forcing open the power-failed elevator doors, discovered the cable had snapped and crashed into the basement—there was no way down except by stairs.

“Motherfucker!”

Hearing the report, Ma Xiu cursed under his breath, then shouted back: “Stairs! Reach the basement in ten minutes—everyone move!”

Here it comes—the Death Stairs scene!

In the original Infinite Terror novel, because the Central Plains Team was required to stay within one hundred meters of Ma Xiu, two members were sacrificed by the Master God’s rules during this segment, forcing Zheng Zha and the others to truly grasp the cruelty and danger of the Master God’s space for the first time.

“Remember—run with all your strength. Don’t fall too far behind the group. Otherwise… consequences are on you.”

Wu Xian emphasized again, glancing at the chubby boy and the middle-aged woman, then pressed forward, following the mercenaries into the stairwell.

Movie visuals and real-life sensation are different—when they saw the dark, endless spiral staircase below, the Central Plains Team’s newcomers turned pale; even Zheng Zha, the future strongest of the Reincarnation team, visibly winced.

“Go!”

At the command, Ma Xiu led his mercenaries ahead at full speed.

The mercenaries’ discipline was obvious; Alice, as the first female lead of the biohazard series, easily kept pace with them. The two male characters, however, struggled, barely managing not to fall behind.

On the Central Plains Team side, Wu Xian ran at the very front—even holding back, his performance still matched the mercenaries’.

Next came Zhan Lan, the only attractive girl among the newcomers and the “intellectual anchor.” As in the novel, she cleverly clung to a seasoned member, gripping the back of Wu Xian’s shirt tightly. Wu Xian, intending to cultivate this promising mental control talent, casually lent her a hand.

As for Zheng Zha, though his personal life was messy and he’d dabbled in banned substances, he’d trained hard to maintain his bedroom prowess—and now, sprinting at full speed, he managed to stay just behind Wu Xian.

Behind them came the middle-aged man Mou Gang and the legendary Thousand-Faced Demon Lord Li Xiaoyi; their gasping, exhausted state made it clear they’d reached their limit.

Bringing up the rear were, as in the novel, the chubby boy and the middle-aged woman—who would die in this segment. Unless some miracle occurred, they’d soon be erased by the Master God for exceeding the hundred-meter distance from Ma Xiu.

【Bang!】

Sure enough, about ten seconds later, a dull thud echoed beside them.

The Central Plains Team froze. Zheng Zha turned his head—and saw the middle-aged woman, her bulky form swelling rapidly before exploding into a spray of blood that drenched the chubby boy. The scene was horrifying.

This… was the Master God’s erasure?!

Zheng Zha’s heart trembled; his fear of the unknown surged, and his pace instantly quickened.

Wu Xian noticed this detail, his lips curling slightly—he was wondering when the second explosion would come—when a piercing scream echoed through the staircase.
