Chapter 36: Professor McGonagall

~6 min read 1,163 words

The next day, Chu Yang took his toiletries and walked out of the dormitory toward the washroom. Passing through the common room, he saw his roommates sleeping soundly on the floor.

Goyle and Crabbe hadn't woken up yet, and the sound of their snoring almost collapsed the ceiling, but even so, those sleeping on the floor didn't wake up.

They were all sleeping very sweetly.

"Good luck to you. This is the first day of school, don't be late, um... that should be difficult."

Unfortunately, no one could hear Chu Yang's sarcasm.

After a simple wash and getting dressed, he picked up his textbooks and left the dormitory.

Not long after Chu Yang left, the senior students came out of the dormitories one after another. Some were still yawning, but their eyes were instantly attracted by the freshmen in the common room.

They were lying on the ground in a mess, like knocked-down bowling pins.

"Wow, the juniors seem to have had a blast last night!"

"I really envy these carefree first-years."

"But did they forget that they have classes on the first day of school?"

"It seems they had a pleasant holiday and are still immersed in it."

"Does anyone know what their first class is?"

"Probably Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration class?"

"What about the second?"

"Professor Snape's Potions class..."

"Hurry up and wake them all up! Damn it, our house is going to lose points on the first day of school!"

The senior students suddenly realized, especially the prefects. Thinking about facing the terrifying Professor Snape if something went wrong, their hearts sank to the bottom.

What kind of mess is this on the first day of school? The strong senior students anxiously used violence to wake up the freshmen sleeping on the floor.

Poor Goyle was still dreaming of eating delicious food when he was slapped awake by a burly senior.

"Ouch!" Goyle woke up from his dream, covering his red cheek with one hand, looking ahead blankly, drool dripping down.

"Hurry up and take your books and get to class!" The senior glared, his eyes wide. With so many freshmen sleeping here, who knows how many points Slytherin House would lose?

However, the seniors soon fell into despair, because except for Goyle and Crabbe, all the other freshmen who slept in the common room last night had caught a cold.

Let alone going to class, they didn't even have the strength to stand up.

The Slytherin common room was in chaos. Chu Yang, the culprit, had already walked down the stairs to the first-floor hall, had breakfast in the Great Hall, and then arrived at the classroom slowly.

The classroom was empty. Chu Yang was the first student to arrive. He walked straight to the podium and greeted the tabby cat on the table, "Good morning, Professor McGonagall."

A look of human-like surprise appeared on the tabby cat's face, then it leaped into mid-air and transformed back into human form.

Professor McGonagall, wearing dark green robes, walked to Chu Yang and asked, "How did you know it was me?" Chu Yang smiled and held up the textbook in his hand, "We have Transfiguration today, don't we?"

"What a clever child. Your insight and logical thinking skills are excellent. A wizard who is good at thinking is a good wizard." Professor McGonagall did not spare her praise; she had already received enough information about Chu Yang from Dumbledore.

And the high hopes Dumbledore had for him.

While other students hadn't arrived yet, in her spare time, Professor McGonagall chatted with Chu Yang about the content of the textbook, and then she was surprised to find that Chu Yang had already memorized the "Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration" by heart.

Professor McGonagall was pleasantly surprised by Chu Yang's performance, but still reminded him, "I am glad you can read this book thoroughly, but before that, you should first understand magical theory. Rashly touching Transfiguration is a very dangerous thing."

Chu Yang certainly knew the importance of basics. Just as Professor McGonagall said, he had memorized "Magical Theory" before reading the "Beginner's Guide to Transfiguration."

"Thank you for your advice." Chu Yang accepted Professor McGonagall's kindness and smiled, "If you are referring to the work by Mr. Adalbert Waffling, then I have indeed read it thoroughly."

Professor McGonagall thought she had misheard and asked in surprise, "That book is not thin, Mr. Chu Yang. Are you sure it is 'thoroughly read'? If you say so, then I must test you properly!"

"Yes, Professor McGonagall." Chu Yang would not miss any opportunity to show himself. These were related to whether he could get in touch with the knowledge that Dumbledore considered "dangerous" as soon as possible.

That knowledge could greatly improve Chu Yang's abilities and bring help to himself in other worlds.

Professor McGonagall, with some anticipation, began to test Chu Yang's foundation in basic knowledge.

In the empty classroom, the two asked and answered.

Soon, Hermione, another top student in the first year, also appeared at the classroom door, but she did not disturb Professor McGonagall's test of Chu Yang, but stood there listening silently.

Chu Yang was like a high-speed machine. For every question Professor McGonagall asked, he answered without hesitation, with no extra time for thinking.

As time passed, the sound of students arguing gradually came from outside the classroom. Professor McGonagall stopped the test and exclaimed, "Your memory is truly impressive. Most importantly, you didn't just memorize that knowledge, you understood it completely."

"You are fully worthy of Dumbledore's special attention, but remember never to be arrogant. Conceit is a taboo for a wizard; only humility can take you further."

"I heard that you requested Headmaster Dumbledore to open more library areas because you wanted more knowledge. Decades ago, there was a young man just as talented as you, but he went down a wrong path."

Chu Yang replied calmly, "Professor McGonagall, thank you for your advice, but there are no two identical flowers in the world, and people are the same. Two seemingly similar people will get completely different results because of different growth trajectories."

"I hope so." Professor McGonagall looked emotional, then waved her hand, "Class is about to start, hurry up and sit in your seat."

Chu Yang heard this and walked back to his seat. The next second, Hermione walked in from the classroom door, looking quite solemn.

She had originally thought that the gap between her and Chu Yang could be made up through time and effort.

But in the test just now, her brain had been a mess since the third question, let alone the subsequent questions she couldn't even understand.

Chu Yang, who saw Hermione, took the initiative to greet her, but Hermione was unhappy, facing her book.

Students walked into the classroom one after another. Seeing that class was about to start, there were still many students absent, most of whom were freshmen from Slytherin House.
