Chapter 214: Hydra Reemployment Platform: The Braised Egg White-Collar Job
Gao Yi stayed at Rojie’s place for less than half an hour before rising to take her leave.
The two exchanged polite, cordial words, thoroughly sharing opinions and discussing Earth’s future.
Before leaving, Master Gao lavishly praised the hamburger at the fast-food shop downstairs and generously left several spellbooks as a gift.
The boiled egg had barely left when the braised egg head arrived right on cue.
It was as if they had arranged it.
There stood Nick Fury, wearing an eye patch and a black trench coat, at the doorway.
His gaze landed on Rojie, slumped on the sofa.
“Pleased to meet Itachi, Mr. Rojie. I am Nick Fury, director of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
He extended his right hand, attempting to shake Rojie’s.
Rojie merely lounged lazily on the sofa, offering no response.
A flicker of embarrassment crossed Nick Fury’s face—he likely cursed inwardly—then he calmly retracted his hand and sat down on the sofa opposite Rojie.
The moment he sat, his agent instincts immediately detected anomalies.
The sofa beneath him still retained warmth; the teacup on the coffee table showed signs of use.
A quick scan of the room revealed the recliner on the left was clearly Rojie’s usual workstation.
Yet now, Rojie had chosen to sit on this guest sofa.
Judging by Rojie’s attitude toward him, this could not possibly be a deliberate wait for him.
Nick Fury’s pupils narrowed slightly; he instantly formed a deduction.
Before I came upstairs, there was another visitor here.
Yet, as I came up from downstairs, I saw no one descending.
Someone who could leave silently and was personally received by Rojie must be no ordinary person—likely a dangerous one.
Seeing Rojie only sipping tea and playing dumb, Nick Fury had no choice but to press on:
“It seems I’ve come at an inconvenient time, disturbing your guest.”
Rojie lifted his eyes to study him, scanning his bald head and single eye patch, his tongue as venomous as poison:
“Itachi’ve only got one eye, Braised Egg Head, but your vision’s sharp—Itachi’ve got good eyes.”
Since Itachi've figured it out, why don't Itachi just scram?
Nick Fury’s smile instantly cracked; his face darkened like a soot-covered pot.
Too bad he was already black—he showed no visible change in expression.
Nick Fury took a deep breath and forced back his professional fake smile: “It seems Mr. Rojie isn’t particularly welcoming.”
“But that’s fine—I’ve always preferred dealing with people who have character.”
He leaned forward, lowering his voice: “I’ve come with sincerity, representing S.H.I.E.L.D. to invite Itachi to join the Avengers.”
“Perhaps Itachi don’t yet understand S.H.I.E.L.D.—let me give Itachi a detailed introduction…”
Before Nick Fury could finish, Rojie cut him off.
“No need. My knowledge of your Hydra Bureau is probably deeper than yours, Braised Egg Director.”
At those words, the Braised Egg Director’s pupils contracted sharply, a dangerous glint flashing in his single eye.
He wasn’t surprised Rojie knew of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s existence.
But the term “Hydra Bureau” left him baffled.
How had S.H.I.E.L.D. become linked to Hydra?
“What did Itachi say? Hydra?”
The Braised Egg Director asked, voice hoarse, his right hand instinctively moving toward his waist holster.
Seeing Nick Fury stunned, Rojie chuckled: “Your S.H.I.E.L.D. has long been a subsidiary of Hydra.”
“Itachi don’t even know your own backyard is on fire?”
The Braised Egg Director frowned: “Mr. Rojie, don’t joke.”
“Don’t joke about Hydra—that’s a terrorist organization.”
“Besides, Hydra was already destroyed.”
Rojie slowly sipped his tea: “Do I look like someone who enjoys telling jokes?”
“Hydra has never been destroyed.”
“Your S.H.I.E.L.D. has long been hollowed out by Hydra.”
“Of your ten agents, eight or nine carry Hydra employee IDs—and Itachi, Braised Egg Head, are still working for free for them.”
The Braised Egg Director shot to his feet, face filled with disbelief: “This is absurd!”
“Itachi’re lying to me!”
“Hydra was wiped out by Captain America during World War II!”
Rojie glanced at him.
“Your former boss, that old man named Pietro—dressed in a suit, looking respectable—was actually a high-ranking Hydra member.”
“Now Itachi understand why every plan Itachi push through goes so smoothly?”
“Hydra’s been backing Itachi from behind the scenes.”
The Braised Egg Director felt the world collapse: “Itachi mean former director Alexander Pierce?”
“How is that possible?”
Rojie sneered, looking at him as if he were an idiot: “Still hypnotizing yourself?”
“Hydra has infiltrated every corner of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
“S.H.I.E.L.D. still exists because Hydra needs to draw nourishment from it.”
“The stronger S.H.I.E.L.D. becomes, the stronger Hydra grows. When Hydra decides S.H.I.E.L.D. has no more value, it will reveal its true face.”
“At that time, the first person to be dealt with will be Itachi, this annoying director.”
“Of course, as the greatest contributor to Hydra’s growth, they might not kill Itachi—instead, they might award Itachi the title ‘Honorary Hydra Member’ and lock Itachi away in some secret prison to retire.”
The Braised Egg Director felt his head buzzing, struggling to breathe.
He placed a hand on his forehead, forcing himself to calm down: “Enough, Mr. Rojie. All S.H.I.E.L.D. agents undergo strict vetting—they couldn’t possibly…”
He froze mid-sentence.
Details he had previously ignored now seemed suspicious.
The Braised Egg Director took a deep breath and looked up at Rojie: “Why tell me this?”
“Why?”
“For fun!”
Rojie shrugged, spreading his hands, wearing a mischievous grin:
“I just wanted to see your face when Itachi find out Itachi’ve been working for the enemy for free.”
Nick Fury had no more interest in continuing the conversation.
He now only wanted to return and investigate thoroughly.
As for the Avengers project…
To hell with it!
If S.H.I.E.L.D. was already Hydra, what was the point of launching an Avengers project? Wasn’t that just arming the enemy?
He mechanically adjusted his trench coat, like a puppet with its soul removed: “We’ll end here today. I must return.”
“Regardless of truth or falsehood, I thank Itachi for the warning, Mr. Rojie.”
With that, Nick Fury turned toward the door.
At that moment, Rojie’s mocking voice came from behind him:
“Braised Egg Director, if Itachi get fired by Hydra, come find me.”
“I’m starting a superhero company—I can package Itachi as a star.”
“Hmm, Superhero Braised Egg Man—how does that sound?”
Normally, hearing this, Nick Fury would have immediately turned, warned Rojie against forming unauthorized hero teams, and threatened to shut down his company.
He might even have scribbled Rojie’s name down in his mental blacklist.
But now, Nick Fury’s mind was full of traitor lists—he had no energy left to care about this.
