Chapter 52: Revenge Against the Child of the World

~5 min read 972 words

“Yuko, have you found anything on your end?”

As Yoko operated the mouse to check Shengzai’s latest “study materials,” she asked her sister beside her.

“No. Aside from one manga about a cultist brother complex, Shengzai hasn’t acquired any new collectibles lately.”

“What about you, sister? Did you find any useful leads?”

While destroying all the brother-complex manga she had previously found, Yuko turned to look at her sister and asked.

“Shengzai’s ‘study materials’ have increased a lot recently. Judging by his file-open logs and the number of tissues in the trash, he’s still in Sage Mode.”

“But Shengzai’s LINE password seems to have changed again. I’ve tried several times and none worked. Any ideas, Yuko?”

Hearing her sister’s words, Yuko froze. “No way—he changed it again?”

“Did you leave some trace last time that he noticed?”

“Getting the password out of Shengzai is easy. Why don’t we hire a professional? Then we just claim the computer got infected?”

Shengzai, who had left home for his appointment, had no idea his two adoptive sisters were already planning to hack his computer.

Dressed in sportswear, he arrived at a park and saw Starfield Akuya, who had been waiting there a long time.

“Sorry for keeping you waiting—I had two troublesome people at home, so it took longer than expected.”

“But Akuya, if I’m not mistaken, you’re the survivor from back then, aren’t you?”

Shengzai was here because Akuya had invited him.

After obtaining Shengzai’s LINE from his sister Ruby, Akuya sent him a simple message.

【If you want to know the truth about that day, meet me at Yangdong Park before 8:30. I’ll tell you everything you want to know.】

For Shengzai, who treated this world as a drama he watched, the plot details were minimal—just one or two episodes.

He abandoned it immediately after the protagonist got killed off at the start.

Even with so little knowledge, Shengzai knew Starfield Akuya and Starfield Ruby were the world’s chosen ones.

Starfield Ai’s death was brutal, but unfortunately, back then he was just a child with no shared power—he couldn’t stop anything.

Starfield Ai’s death wasn’t simple, and Shengzai knew that well. He’d secretly investigated over the years, but found nothing.

Starfield Ai protected her secrets too well. Even those who knew—like Saito Ichigo from BerryPro Agency, and Akuya and Ruby’s current guardian Saito Kyoko—treated her like family and stayed silent.

His adoptive brother’s fate and Yoko’s paralysis were pure misfortunes, but that didn’t mean Shengzai would let the masterminds behind it go unpunished.

So when Akuya approached him saying he wanted to reveal the truth, Shengzai responded immediately.

It wasn’t about exploitation—now, they simply shared the same enemy, so temporary cooperation was natural.

“My name is Starfield Akuya. Starfield Ai, the popular idol killed in the attack over a decade ago, was my mother…”

“Don’t waste my time with what I already know. I didn’t come out at night to hear irrelevant gossip.”

“Do you think I haven’t investigated Starfield Ai all these years?”

“Just tell me who ordered that fan to kill her!”

Akuya hadn’t finished speaking when Shengzai, visibly impatient, cut him off.

Akuya then stopped talking and pulled a slip of paper with several names written on it from his pocket, handing it to Shengzai.

“Ai’s residence was extremely secret. Even Ruby and I were publicly claimed to be Kyoko’s children.”

“The only way that fan could have found us precisely and confirmed we were Ai’s children is if someone leaked it.”

“And the leaker must have known Ai intimately—possibly even our father…”

“This list was found in Ai’s personal phone. I suspect the real mastermind is among these people.”

Hearing Akuya’s words, Shengzai was stunned—he hadn’t expected the world’s chosen one to go this far. Was this guy planning to kill his own father?

And when he watched this drama before, the synopsis said it was a romantic comedy about stocks—how did it turn into a family drama?

But none of this mattered to Shengzai. Even if the killer was Akuya’s father, he wasn’t Shengzai’s old man—he wouldn’t hesitate to kill him if he had to.

“Kinta Masakuro, Kanzaki Katsuya…”

“I see. From this list, these people are all major figures in the industry.”

“No wonder you came to me—you want to use my current influence to get close to them, right?”

“Just tell me directly—what do you want to do? Or how do you want me to help?”

Shengzai wasn’t stupid. When he saw the list, he already guessed why Akuya had summoned him.

“Since my suspected target is Ruby and my biological father, if I can get hair samples or saliva from cigarette butts of these people, I can run a DNA test.”

“Previously, I helped Ma Kanae and eliminated Kanzaki Katsuya from the list.”

“But he seems to know more secrets about Ai—and he set a condition.”

“He wants me to join the reality show ‘Now Let’s Seriously Fall in Love,’ and as producer, he wants the show to gain real popularity.”

Hearing Akuya, Shengzai understood: Akuya and Kanzaki Katsuya had reached an agreement.

To learn more about Starfield Ai, Akuya had to ensure the show’s popularity.

But “Now Let’s Seriously Fall in Love” was basically designed to promote young idols.

Though the cast were all good-looking men and women, none of them had significant popularity themselves.

Kanzaki Katsuya had big ambitions—he arranged all the couples for this season. If these pairs became famous,

the industry would recognize his ability, and the newly promoted idols would owe him favors.

Akuya had no problem joining “Now Let’s Seriously Fall in Love,” but ensuring its popularity? He had no confidence.

And just getting close to one person on the list—Kanzaki Katsuya—had already been pure luck. After much hesitation, he finally decided to seek Shengzai’s help.
