Chapter 3: Doesn't look like someone who would cause trouble

~8 min read 1,501 words

After Shen Li finished her enrollment procedures, she hugged her books and materials and dragged her suitcase to the dormitory.

There weren't many people in the dormitory; there were four beds in total, but only three people lived there, and the other empty bed was covered with a pile of miscellaneous items.

When she went to the dormitory, only her new roommate, Zhao Zhouyuan, whom she had just met, was there.

Zhao Zhouyuan was the class monitor of the Philosophy Department. "Let's go to class together in a bit."

"The one sleeping opposite you is Zhang Zixin. She doesn't come back often, so you can just pretend she doesn't exist."

Shen Li glanced at the messy table, piled high with various luxury brand cosmetics, and a Chanel lipstick rolling on the floor. She nodded and replied, "Mm."

On the way to class, the road was being renovated, and there was a lot of dust.

Shen Li wore a black mask, revealing only a pair of beautiful eyes. The corners of her eyes naturally tilted slightly upward, and her eyelashes were as dense as crow feathers, casting a shadow on her porcelain-white skin when she lowered her eyes. Yet, her eyes were as clear as stars, which diluted that innate charm.

Class Monitor Zhao Zhouyuan: "Aren't you hot in this weather? Still wearing a mask?"

Shen Li: "There's too much dust; I don't like the smell."

The Chengde University campus had been renovated over the summer vacation and was still under construction, kicking up a cloud of dust that made people uncomfortable.

The class monitor nodded and didn't say anything else.

When they arrived at the classroom.

There were hardly any people there at this hour.

"Because you came late, the class is arranged by height. Now there's only the last seat in the second row left. This seat happens to be empty, so you can sit here."

"School resources are limited. We don't really need to change classrooms for this major, and the classroom is basically fixed."

"I'll sit in front of you. If you have any questions, you can ask me directly."

Shen Li sat in the last seat of the second row by the back door.

By the time class started, there were only a dozen people in the classroom of thirty-plus students. The books on the desks were stacked high, and there was a faint smell of tobacco; someone had smoked in the classroom.

There were a few cigarette butts scattered on the floor by the trash can in the back.

The few people below were each doing their own thing.

Hardly anyone was listening to the lecture seriously.

During class, Shen Li drifted off several times.

After half the class was over, Zhao Zhouyuan hadn't woken up yet, so Shen Li got up gently and went to the restroom.

When she came out of the restroom and was washing her hands, someone suddenly patted her on the shoulder from behind. "Classmate."

Shen Li turned around and looked at her with a questioning gaze.

"Um… someone is calling you to the corridor; they have something to find you for." After dropping this sentence, the other person ran away in a hurry.

Shen Li was left alone, looking confused.

When she walked to the corner of the corridor, she saw a group of people there.

One of them was particularly eye-catching.

He was sitting on the stairs with his legs spread arrogantly, blocking the passage for other students, his hand resting on his bent knee, leaning against the wall behind him.

Xie Qin was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt with English letters, a silver chain hanging around his neck, and his short black hair fell softly over his forehead. Those eyes looked over with a seductive quality, and he played with the metal lighter in his hand, spinning it smoothly in his hand.

"You're Shen Li?" When his eyes looked over, there was a sharp edge at the bottom of them.

Shen Li didn't understand, so she nodded: "Mm." The tail of her voice was pleasant, and her volume was very light.

Xie Qin stood up and walked in front of her. He was very tall, and Shen Li had to look up at him. The dazzling sunlight in front of her was blocked by him. He looked down at her, and at such close range, she could smell a strong scent of women's perfume on him. "I heard… you're very tough, bullying my girlfriend?"

She was wearing a black mask, and Xie Qin couldn't see her face clearly, only her beautiful eyes, which were devoid of emotion, calm as a pool of stagnant water, too cold.

Shen Li's eyes showed confusion, and it took her half a beat to recover.

Facing Xie Qin's aggressive gaze, she trembled her long eyelashes and slowly lowered them.

Xie Qin's tone wasn't fierce, just a very plain warning, but it inexplicably gave people a sense of oppressive deterrence.

Shen Li had never interacted with bad students at school, so she lowered her head in fear. "I'm sorry."

Xu Zhouyuan put his arm on Xie Qin's shoulder and said to Shen Li, "It's so hot, and you don't even mind wearing a mask. But don't be afraid, Brother Qin didn't mean anything else, just wanted you to get along well with our sister-in-law and behave yourself."

Xie Qin took out his wallet, which contained many cards and cash. His cold-white, well-defined fingers took out a student ID card and held it out to her.

She had been wondering why she couldn't find her student ID; it turned out he had picked it up.

Xu Zhouyuan laughed when he saw her looking scared silly: "Let's go, classmate."

After Shen Li took the card and left, her mind was still a bit blank. From childhood to adulthood, she had always been a good student in the eyes of teachers and students, not causing trouble and not taking the initiative to talk to people. Everyone said her personality was indifferent and cold.

She didn't know if this counted as being bullied by bad students at school.

That person just now, it seemed… he was the one who called for seven condoms at once when opening a hotel room… Xie Qin?

Shen Li's reaction was very slow, and she was still a bit bewildered.

It seemed a bit scary.

Qiao Lang: "Brother Qin, did we get the wrong person? This little girl's demeanor doesn't look like someone who would cause trouble."

Xu Zhouyuan: "Who knows? Maybe she was just scared by Brother Qin's aura, so she didn't say a word."

"Did you guys forget that girl named Xue from Class 3 of the Fourth High School before? She looked harmless and pure as can be, and even dated Brother Qin. If we hadn't bumped into her, who the hell would have known that this girl smoked and drank in private, and the 'dry brothers' she knew could make up two mahjong tables."

Qiao Lang remembered that it was indeed the case: "That's true…"

Zhao Zhouyuan came back from getting water and saw Shen Li, who had taken off her mask, looking a bit pale and not quite right. She sat in her seat, turned around, and asked her, "What's wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell?"

"I'm fine." Shen Li realized belatedly that her heart was palpitating with discomfort, and her hands were still shaking from fear. She stuffed the student ID card into her pink wallet.

"Oh, oh…" Zhao Zhouyuan was a warm-hearted person. Seeing she was fine, she turned back around.

In the corridor outside the classroom, there was a sound.

Xu Zhouyuan: "Anyway, there's nothing to do, let's go play billiards in a bit."

"Still the same old place… don't forget to bring your girlfriend, it's lively with more people."

Zhou Mingyu: "I'll pass. My wife is a good student; she has class, and I don't want to delay her. She's going to check up on me in a bit, and I don't even know how to get away with it."

Xie Qin was holding a cigarette, and he didn't know what someone had said to him. He curled his lips, and his walking posture was loose and arrogant, as if no one could enter his eyes—wild and arrogant.

He tilted his head slightly, passed by the classroom door, and through the window, happened to catch a glimpse of Shen Li, who had taken off her mask. She was someone with a beautiful bone structure, and her rich, gorgeous face gave people a strong visual impact. The corners of her lips were naturally slightly upturned, and even when she wasn't smiling, she had three parts of allure. Yet, her brows and eyes carried an innate coldness, which made this face gorgeous but not vulgar, and a sense of aloofness permeated her bones, making people feel it was difficult to get close to her. Her lips were a natural pale pink. ===== CHAPTER 4 =====
