Chapter 102: Playing Along with You
Damn it!
Again?
Chen Yongren cursed silently.
This Japanese spy using the alias Liu Jianming is certainly no pushover.
Chen Yongren kept a smile on his face, but inside he wondered where he had slipped up to arouse suspicion.
Following Liu Jianming's order, the police officers quickly boarded the police truck.
Chen Yongren had intended to get on the truck, but Liu Jianming called him to stop and had him sit in a car together.
Sheriff, you even get a car?
Chen Yongren lovingly stroked the black Ford sedan before him, feigning surprise: "The Chief is pretty decent, actually giving us a car."
"What the hell are you thinking?" Liu Jianming laughed and scolded: "This is the Chief's prized car; I begged for a long time before he agreed to lend it to us."
The two sat in the car.
The convoy began moving toward the execution ground.
Along the way, Liu Jianming kept glancing at Chen Yongren from time to time.
"This guy's record seems fine, but I just feel something's off,"
"I've looked over all his training records since he joined the police; his performance keeps improving, and he's progressed the fastest."
"Especially the matter concerning Hu Xingrui—this is far too coincidental."
"The Locust Army was about to root out the mole, and lo and behold, they found one—just as if someone had deliberately served it up on a platter."
"Moreover, Hu Xingrui, who had a conflict with Chen Yongren, makes it all seem like a deliberate setup."
"Although there is no direct evidence that can prove this is related to Chen Yongren,"
"But I still feel suspicious."
……
Hearing Liu Jianming's inner monologue, Chen Yongren cursed silently.
"This guy Liu Jianming is pretty good at analysis; he's almost hit the right answer."
"Brother Ming, a smoke." Chen Yongren took out a pack of Old Knife brand cigarettes, lit one for Liu Jianming first, then lit his own.
Liu Jianming puffed suavely, then suddenly turned to Chen Yongren, fixing his eyes and asked: "A Ren, have you ever killed someone?"
"Killing someone? No way, I'm such a good person—I could never have killed anyone."
Chen Yongren activated his acting, gently shaking his head: "No."
As everyone knows, Japanese spies A Ren't considered human, so Chen Yongren isn't lying.
"How can you be a deputy sheriff without having killed anyone?" Seeing no clue in Chen Yongren's eyes, Liu Jianming sat up straight, his face hardening, took a puff, and laughed.
"Today I'll show you the ropes—ten or so enemy agents, guaranteed to let you kill to your heart's content!"
Chen Yongren nodded with a smile: "Sure, back in school I learned how to shoot, but never got a chance to actually shoot someone—now I finally have."
Having anticipated Liu Jianming's inner thoughts beforehand, Chen Yongren remained completely calm.
"So this time I intend to have you execute them." Liu Jianming looked at Chen Yongren and said.
"Have me execute them?" Chen Yongren feigned surprise.
Liu Jianming nodded: "Exactly!"
Chen Yongren activated his acting, putting on a look of great surprise, and said nothing.
"You've always hated those anti-Japanese elements, haven't you?" Liu Jianming said with a fake smile: "Today I'll let you have a bloody good time, A Ren—this chance doesn't come often, don't miss it."
Though it sounded nice on the surface, Liu Jianming was deliberately setting a trap for Chen Yongren.
"If you don't kill, it'll clash with the image you've built so far."
"You wouldn't dare stain your hands with the blood of the Intelligence Bureau, the Party Affairs Bureau, or even the Red Party."
"Then you'd have a problem."
"Dare to kill?"
"That would be even better."
"Your hands would be soaked in their blood!"
"From now on you'll honestly serve the Locust Army."
"Although these guys are death-row inmates, in the Locust Army's propaganda they're portrayed as a bunch of fearless Chinese agents!"
"Damn it, this old silver coin!"
"You're trying to block me from both sides?"
Through Liu Jianming's inner monologue, Chen Yongren also knew of his deadly scheme.
"How about it, A Ren—you're not scared, are you?" Seeing Chen Yongren not respond, Liu Jianming's tone was flat, but his eyes held a hint of killing intent.
"Scared?" Chen Yongren chuckled lightly: "I don't even know how to write the word 'scared'."
"Not being scared is good." Liu Jianming smiled and nodded: "Then I look forward to your performance."
"This time all the brothers are watching—it's also a good chance for you to establish your authority."
"If you don't kill a few, how can you make your subordinates fear you?"
"You're quite the character," Chen Yongren nodded along while listening, inwardly thinking he'd love to eat Liu Jianming's heart.
Soon they arrived at the prison; Liu Jianming led the police officers into the execution ground inside the prison.
This place is specifically used for executing death-row inmates by firing squad.
The outer wall of the compound is a three-to-four-meter-high cement wall, with a few sentry posts; the guards on duty hold their gun straps, vigilantly looking down at the open ground.
Thirty meters away from them on the open ground, about ten criminals kneel in a row.
They wear black hoods over their heads, their hands tied behind their backs, and something seems to be stuffed in their mouths, so they can only emit muffled whimpers.
These criminals happened to be within the inspection range; Chen Yongren immediately opened his scanning eye and scanned their identities.
Name: Zhang Ada.
Age: 42.
Gender: Male.
Nationality: China.
Current occupation: robbery and murder suspect.
……

……
After scanning them, Chen Yongren found that they were all wrongdoers—perfect for target practice.
Killing these criminals gave Chen Yongren no psychological burden; he simply regarded it as purifying the environment.
Looking at the criminals kneeling before them, the constables exchanged glances.
Not far from them on the table lay a Zhongzheng rifle, and a prison guard stood beside it with his hands behind his back, staring coldly at them.
"Everyone, stand to attention!" Liu Jianming pointed a finger and shouted sternly, "Your task today is simple: just watch!"
Upon hearing this, the constables immediately formed ranks and looked toward Liu Jianming.
"These people before you are all special agents—some from the Party Affairs Office, some from the Military Intelligence Office, and even a few from the Red Party." Liu Jianming said while pacing.
"They have long been hiding in Songhu, secretly undermining Songhu's peace."
"Today, besides judging them, I'm telling you to make clear your stance and not harbor divided loyalties!"
Hearing this, the constables' faces turned pale with fear.
This is clearly meant to establish authority.
Zhang Haifeng realized something, his eyelids twitched twice, he took a few light breaths, and tried to stay calm.
"A Ren!" Liu Jianming shouted.
"Here!" Chen Yongren replied.
Liu Jianming said no more: "Let's begin!"
"Yes!" Chen Yongren quickly walked to the table, picked up the Central Formal Rifle from it, and swiftly loaded a bullet into the chamber.
He aimed at a criminal thirty meters ahead and pulled the trigger.
Bang— a gunshot rang out, the criminal was hit in the chest and fell down.
