Chapter 16: Goodbye, Return

~7 min read 1,278 words

Fans?

The people from the Motherland seemed still stunned, looking dazed and clueless.

But soon, Butcher proved with action that he truly was a fan—though... the extreme kind.

Eight years! A full eight years!

To find his wife Rebecca, he had suffered worse than death these past eight years!

Now, at last, he could seek revenge. Filled with rage, Butcher stomped forward half a step, his eyes unleashing searing beams of golden light!

Heat vision?

The Motherland man’s pupils contracted slightly, but his reaction was swift—he immediately fired his own heat vision back.

BOOM!

One red, one gold, entwining like coiling dragons.

The two high-temperature beams collided in midair, triggering a violent explosion.

Gales howled wildly, scorching shockwaves radiated outward, and amid swirling dust, Butcher seemed to transform into a demon, charging straight at the Motherland man.

In his fury, Butcher’s speed matched the Motherland man’s exactly.

His five fingers clenched tightly, as if air rushed frantically through the gaps between them; muscles and bones moved in unison, producing rhythmic thunderous roars.

“Motherland man, give me back my wife!!!”

“????”

Though utterly bewildered, the Motherland man clenched his fist and struck back: “I don’t even know your wife!”

THUD!

A deep, massive sound exploded across the open field!

Gales surged violently; wheat seedlings bent low. Layer upon layer of shockwaves radiated outward from the two combatants, sweeping everything around into utter ruin.

The ground itself seemed unable to bear their power, groaning under the strain as it collapsed uniformly by several inches, dust and mud surging skyward like a curtain!

The once tranquil, peaceful farmstead had, in an instant, become a wasteland.

Two powerful bodies clashed hundreds of times in mere moments; the force of each impact acted like an invisible hand, repelling the air into endless, crashing waves.

Deafening roars mixed with supersonic shockwaves erupted across the abandoned farmstead.

“Sh...should we help?”

Frenchy swallowed hard, wiping sweat from his face, and turned to Ma Wen.

“Help? How?”

Ma Wen’s lips twitched—they were utterly useless here!

Gods fighting, mortals suffer... He’d thought injecting Compound Five would make them stronger.

Now he saw it was pure delusion—they didn’t even deserve to be here!

By the way, Ma Wen’s superpower was to cover his entire body in hard spines, like a porcupine—but he couldn’t launch them.

Frenchy’s superpower... was to detach his two arms from his body.

Fortunately, Alvin hadn’t cared much about these two—they were just fillers. The real force was Butcher!

“Whoa, no wonder it’s Butcher.”

In midair, Alvin watched the battle and couldn’t help but praise: “He’s actually holding his own against the Motherland man.”

Butcher’s kill-or-be-killed fighting style genuinely startled the Motherland man.

He’d tried to fly upward several times, but Alvin, watching from the side, crushed him with psychic energy!

If it were just Butcher, the Motherland man wouldn’t have feared him—but there was also that treacherous bastard, always lurking to strike from the shadows!

Bit by bit, the Motherland man fell into disadvantage, taking several solid punches to the face.

His once-handsome face swelled up, his hairstyle disheveled; though furious, a flicker of fear stirred within him.

Unlike ordinary people, fear ignited the Motherland man’s survival instinct—he managed to suppress the frenzied Butcher.

“Damn it, Alvin, where’s your drug?!”

While taking direct hits and barely holding on, Butcher finally snapped, roaring toward Alvin in the sky: “Give it to me now—I can’t take it anymore!”

“Wait a little longer!”

At that moment, Alvin calmed himself, focusing completely.

He was attempting a bold idea—one that might trigger unknown consequences—but to test the limits of psychic energy in other worlds, he had to do it!

Though he didn’t understand what Alvin was doing, Butcher knew they were tied together on the same rope—he could only curse inwardly and fight desperately to hold the Motherland man.

And the Motherland man?

He had realized this was a death trap laid out specifically for him. Driven by survival instinct, he unleashed even greater power, desperately trying to break free from Butcher.

“Hurry up, I can’t hold on!”

Butcher was truly at his limit—being beaten senseless while pinned to the ground by the crazed Motherland man.

“Done!”

Alvin suddenly opened his eyes; his psychic energy surged like a tidal wave!

In an instant, the Motherland man sensed danger.

It was a terror he’d never felt before—something that could truly end his life—and he tried to flee at all costs.

But it was too late!

“Doom Vortex!!!”

Alvin’s brow bulged with veins; ice-blue flames blazed fiercely.

Massive psychic energy twisted space and time, as if piercing through the material universe to reach the highest realm where countless souls echoed.

“No, no!!!”

The Motherland man screamed in terror, desperately trying to fly away from this terrifying zone.

The warped space forcibly snapped his legs, blood spraying into the air.

“Aaaah!”

The pain twisted the Motherland man’s face; he lost control and fell.

But the warped space immediately returned to normal.

“So... in other universes, I can’t open rifts between the material universe and the subspace.” Alvin sweated profusely, as if drained dry; his pupils held deep exhaustion as he gasped for breath.

The Motherland man, his legs broken, howled in agony, eyes filled with terror.

Since birth, he’d never suffered such severe injuries. His steel body had let him face guns and cannons without fear—but now... that confidence was shattered!

“We did it! We succeeded!”

Butcher’s elation was uncontrollable—the invincible Motherland man... had finally fallen!

But at that moment, another figure suddenly entered the battlefield.

Long, elegant hair and a curvaceous figure—she was none other than Queen Maeve, one of the Seven.

“Motherland man?”

Seeing the Motherland man’s wounds, Queen Maeve’s expression turned horrified.

“Quick, save me, Maeve!” The Motherland man was overjoyed—unexpected salvation: “These people want to kill me! Save me!”

“Damn it!”

Butcher’s pupils narrowed; golden laser shot out.

But Queen Maeve moved swiftly, blocking the laser and shielding the Motherland man behind her.

“Too bad...”

Watching Queen Maeve’s sudden arrival, Alvin knew he’d missed his chance.

Once Word Corp learned the Motherland man was in danger, reinforcements would arrive quickly. With Queen Maeve guarding the wounded Motherland man, ending the battle anytime soon was now impossible.

Is this what they call “fate’s protection”?

The plan to obtain “Source Power” had failed—but Alvin felt no disappointment.

He’d intended this opportunity to test just how difficult it was to kill a protagonist or antagonist, to prepare himself psychologically for future attempts to obtain “Source Power.”

Now it was clear: killing a character blessed by “fate’s protection” was indeed extremely difficult.

“What now?”

Butcher turned to Alvin, still unwilling to give up this chance to kill the Motherland man: “I’ll hold off Queen Maeve—you go take care of the Motherland man?”

“Sorry, time’s up.”

Alvin glanced at his wristband and smiled at everyone.

The group, who’d just been beating each other senseless, froze at these sudden words, utterly confused by Alvin’s strange move.

But in the next instant, Alvin bowed politely to them all: “Thank you for your hospitality these past few days. I hope we meet again when you’re all in good health.”

As his words ended, time hit zero.

【Stay duration ended】

【Insufficient Source Points to anchor】

【Insufficient energy to remain】

【Respected Navigator, returning immediately to original world】

Then, before everyone’s eyes, Alvin vanished suddenly.

As if he’d never existed—leaving no trace behind.

A strange silence fell. Only the gravely wounded Motherland man and Queen Maeve remained, slowly turning their gazes toward Butcher, Frenchy, and Ma Wen.

In an instant, Butcher’s eyes bulged with rage; a mouthful of old blood surged upward and spewed out: “I FUCKING KILL YOU, ALVIN!”
